Update - Tuesday, December 22, 2009 Guild Wars Wiki notes You now have to enter one of your character's names before being able to log in. |
Odd.....is to say the least|
Odd, but I think I can see the logic - it means that somebody at least needs to do a modicum of research on the specific account they're trying to hack. Although it DOES have the effect of meaning that people who list their characters in a public place have possibly weakened their security (although hopefully said people don't also reveal the email attached to the account).

A: I can't recall names of my storage characters on another accounts.
B: I have multiple Prophecies CD keys -- I can't tell who's who. C: I'm not sure if I know where all said keys are, so I cannot prove that I own them. I cannot say that I like this option. I vote making this optional. |

I think it's pretty obvious this is a bandaid until they have a better solution. And uhh, yeah, this is actually a pretty damn good way to prevent getting your account stolen. Unless the person knows you, your account isn't going to be able to get bruteforced, and someone who gives you a trojan won't be able to access your account unless they met you on GW. So yeah, it's going to prevent plenty of stolen accounts. Is it the best solution? No. Is it a working solution and a good bandaid? Yes.
