Imo people don't q.q ni more if your acc got hacked well that's not anet's fault neither is it urs . If you don't find the game to be "fun" ni more due to excessive "nerfs" or w/e just quit plain and simple move on, there's plenty more games out there but don't waste ur time and ours just qqing and trolling here.

Last week everyone was QQing about the failsecurity, and now ANet has done something to (temporarily) fix it they are still QQing?

I have nine accounts, two new ones three days old because I picked up a couple of NIB GW Platinum Editions for $US6.99 shipped off of eBay. It will probably take me a week or more to straighten this mess out with Anet. I have a stack of boxes with everything in them, but don't really remember which key goes with which account.
It looks to me like Anet shot it's self in the foot with this one. What they did was PO lots of hard core players who have multiple accounts, many of them mules that they only log on to clear out storage. The guys who have a single account with a single email will not have any problem with the new security. But the guys who spent money buying multiple keys for multiple accounts will now think twice about buying any more copies of GW.
If I wanted to be an accountant and keep records of which account goes with which key and which toons were named what on which account I would go to work for a big company, but if I wanted to play games on a computer I might consider switching from GW to something else.
Here is a question for Gail, how many copies of GW are repeat sales to peeps who already have one or more GW accounts, and how many copies of GW are sold to first time buyers? And more to the point do you think it is realistic to expect some one like me who has bought multiple copies of GW to buy any more after something like this happens.
Just as an aside a bud of mine who was a long time GW player quit several months ago (after the SF nerff) and switch to Runes of Magic; check out their log on screen. The Runes of Magic log on screen is much more secure than what GW uses but does not cause grief for the players.
If GW really wanted better security they could mimic Runes of Magic log on instead of the bozo trick they pulled. Not to mention it really disrupted play for some peeps.
A big thumbs down from me on this new security idea.

Well u better have ur 2nd acc in ur guild or FL.

If I recall correctly, we weren't directly asked to do anything. Pretty sure a few weeks ago Gaile mentioned that telling people your ign was a security risk, so Inde removed the ign's in profiles. We knew nothing about this security question addition.

It's a very nice addon in the first line of defense. I'm expecting stronger stuff to appear both in the backline (he he GvG terminology ) and in related sites, like Guru did a while ago by removing IGNs (or else it'd be easier for RMTers to farm char names!).
Stop The Storm
aint exactly hard to find someones IGN
maybe we should close ventaris section as a security measure

Curious, although I suppose anything which increases security is a good thing. I'll be removing my character name from my gwguru profile.
Artisan Archer
It's actually a pretty good choice, this way if someone gets his hands on a email adress he will somehow have to find out the character name that goes with it. Not really something a computer program is good at. Brute-forcing will be impossible or at least take alot more effort (hackers are lazy).

This is a good thing to implement security options to protect our accounts, but it isn't a good idea to do this without any warning...
lost some of my accounts used juste for storage just cause i can't remember char names...
got to remember mails<->passwords, and now corresponding char names...
I think this should be optionnal...
shoyon456
They need to UNimplement this and allow a window for people to gather char names and/or make it optional. I personally don't have any extra accounts but I can see how troublesome this would be for people with 4 and 5 alts with random names.
Also, I hope they realize this discourages old time players who quit from EVER logging back on. People who quit a year ago won't be able to remember a char name. And yes, I do have friends who moved on but will occassionally hop on.

Pandora's box
I don't remember ANY of the names of my storage account. Simply never meant to be heroic persons with names to remember. I don't think this update will make any difference anyway. I mean: How do you think abusers get information about accounts? They have seen you first while playing. They now simply write down the name and do the trick as they always did!
Riot Narita
It is optional isn't it? As long as you can remember a character name once - you can tick the "remember..." box.
Doesn't help if you can't get in that first time - but if you're in a guild, and your mule accounts are in the same guild as your main, you can see their names in the guild roster. Or in the Friends list on you main, if you added them.

To anyone who is struggling to remember the IGN of secondary accounts - it might be worth going through your Screenshots folder in Guild Wars to see if you took a screenshot of it at any time.
On the whole though, this is a very clever solution!

Ugh
Nice to see Anet doing taking action. But...
My thoughts exactly.
Disable it and make it automatically enable the next time you log on, or give the option to enable it the next time you log on.

found the list of my chars
i did one i don't remember why, on a post-it
pfiou... Just have to find which account is for a name...
but support will be used a lot... good luck to them...
And, if you log your account char name on a window, then log an other account, you must change the char name... and loose the saved first one...
this security add is just an easy way to oblige players to make a file with corresponding account mail - account pass - account char... easy to hack...
not really efficient for security at this time...
This isn't efficient if :
You have many accounts : have a good memory if you want to use your accounts
You have used your GW mail as mail for a website where you used your IG too (many players uses their IG as pseudos...)
Oh my God what a beautiful sign with your favorite char !!! thx for IG !!!
Ig are everywhere !!! Screenshots, Signs, Pseudos, Buy/Sells, Guild Forum, Henches for certain of us
Security ? Bouahahahahahahahaha, funny, really...

There is no need for conversation in this matter, that IS the point. Now, if you want us to talk about anything that does have sense, you`ll find that i am actually quite charming, friendly and eloquent person. You can`t judge someone just because he told you that you have only one half of your brain. You just don`t do that.

I like this update, like many others have said it gives additional security. Even if somebody gets a hold of my password now, it's very unlikely they're going to guess one of my character names.
I can't really understand the people who're saying they don't remember any of their names.. Just what do you call your characters? I could rattle off every single one of my character names for games as far back as Neverwinter Nights and Baldurs Gate.

Why you did not add one of your storage account character names to your friends list or named them in a way so it is possible to remember?

I don’t have issue with the additional security; I have issue with how it has been handled. I was kicked out of the game mid mission after waiting a long time to get a squad, I cannot access any saved gold, stored weapons etc. This is winters day and I would like to use the account to play GW. To put icing on the Christmas cake, the storage account is where player presents are.
Security is welcome but this thoughtless action bodes ill for GW2. There are numerous posts on this forum from people who now cannot access storage or infrequently used game accounts. It is very likely that many more will find this an issue.

I would like to c the face of all those chinese gold traders with character names like pq46z4 that try to login today......mega lulz!
Mighty blow to the gold traders. Way to go Anet. Weed out the wicked.

I'm sure this will help some. But int he past many people have been very relaxed about IGN because there is no risk to revealing it, now there is! That isn't good. Sure it's bandaid, but there are a lot of other easy things that could be done.

Maybe this is actually to stop gold sellers.
I can see that poor gold seller now, "hmm...how many lower case L's did I have in my name?"
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the price of gold for real money went up. Just because so many gold sellers couldn't remember all the jumbled up letters they used to make their character names.

Does the "remember..." box save the input character name as well?
If it doesn't, do you need to input your character name everytime you login?

Anyone noticed you automatically select the char on the char selection screen of which you used the name to log in?

It helps against people breaking into an NCsoft master account through NCsoft's flimsy security. They can simply guess account names there, it will tell them if they guessed a real account. They can then brute force your security questions since some of them have a limited number of answers, and apparently if they guess one question correctly, the system tells them which one. Once in there they see your GW account ID, and they can change your GW password without knowing the old one. The first you will hear about this is an email telling you your password has already been changed, and contact support if it wasn't you.
This is made much harder now, since the NCsoft master account doesn't show your character names.
Yes it remembers your character name, if you ticked the box.

If you have so many accounts and can't remember names, I suggest you use a separate shortcut for each - with the appropriate command line parameters for account name and character name. Or indeed write them down or put them in a file.
If someone can "easily hack" your computer and gain access to your files, or they are actually sitting at your computer reading what you wrote on a piece of paper... then you have BIG PROBLEMS and nothing A-Net can do will save you.

By the way, do you see any character names under people's account names here? I see 0% not 90%... because it's been removed from the site - and I believe other fansites were requested to do the same.
