I haven't qq'ed about this on this forum, but my wife and I were both hacked at the end of Oct. If we lost all our stuff due to ANet/NCSoft incompetence and not due to our own actions, damn straight they'd better figure out a way to return it.

We spent weeks kicking ourselves because, according to ANet, our loss was SOMEHOW (of course, with no explanation as to how) "our fault". I've got no problem accepting the consequences of my own actions, but I take serious issue with having to accept the consequences of someone else's idiocy.

One factor could be how widespread the issue is. Has anyone created a poll on this? For example:

- I was recently hacked via my NCSoft Master Account.

- I was recently hacked but the NCSoft Master Account was not involved.

- I was hacked, but it was a long time ago.

- I wasn't hacked, but someone I play with was.

- I wasn't hacked and I don't personally know anyone who was (other than reading the forums).

I'm curious about the percentages.

We can't really add the first two options in that poll, since no one can be absolutely sure how they were hacked. Even NCsoft doesn't know.

And there's a stickied thread containing all the "I've been hacked!" threads we've had recently, so that takes care of the rest of the options really.

That would be fair. But I wouldn't be counting on anyone to do the fair or right thing.

That would be an interesting poll hallomik. Though I'm not sure just how useful the last option is. Since, unless your friends in game have multiple accounts, there would be no way for you to know that they got hacked. They'd just stop logging in one day.

Still... would be interesting

@ Hawk - It's true you don't know what you don't know. My thought was to try to break down the "not hacked" group into two sub categories: totally untouched by hacking and indirectly affected. No poll is perfect.

@ Katsumi - What the other thread doesn't tell you what portion of the population has been affected. Is it 0.001% of players or 10%? Also, NCSoft has said that only half of the cases involved the NCSoft master account (or something like that), so they have some knowledge.

If you like, change the wording of the first question to "I was recently hacked and my NCSoft Master Account was involved." That eliminates the person from having to know exactly what happened. Not that they really would - to your point.

True, but only about 0.001% of the GW population use fansites, so you're not likely to get any credible results anyway.

As far as the master accounts issue, Regina said that the security guys only took a cross-section of data to analyze any connection between hacking and master accounts. Until they analyze all the data (if they even plan on doing so), I'd take any conclusions they've drawn with a very large grain of salt. Or possibly a shot of whiskey.

If your account gets hack, and Anet can't verify equipment, at least restore the character (with maybe a non-elite max stat armor set if lvl 20).

You should've done your research more properly Katsie. The care package is being offered AS AN ALTERNATIVE to character restorations simply because the restoration process takes VERY long and some people might not want to wait. If some, maybe just a small numbers, of the people would accept this package instead, it would reduce the worldload of Blizzard Employees. Isn't that a logical thing to do, offering alternatives?

Not that I care what people think of any company. I just don't like it when people post false information and stuff like that (which is why I hate Anet's previous CM's guts).

they have proven in the past that they do not care about re-building your lost account, thier attitude is "sorry you got hacked, go buy another access code, better luck next time". even if the security risk is cause by something THEY missed, you will have to suffer for it, ty for chooseing anet, and have a great day.

Oh I know. The main point I got from the article was that, instead of offering this to players as an alternative or as a "thank you for putting up with our long restoration process," Blizzard is trying to push this on players instead of a full restore. Especially considering the quality of the items being offered, it seems like a little bit of an insult.

I'm sure most people would want to wait for a full restore, especially if they've poured years of time, not to mention money, into a character.

I can't tell if you really did miss the part where both me and the message in the link I gave say that the care package is actually BEING OFFERED AS AN ALTERNATIVE, or you just ignored them to keep on spreading your faulty information.

But I'll be all positive and lovely and assume that you really did misread it. Try again please, girl.

No, you're just missing my point is all. I know it's an alternative. Pretty sure I said that in my last post. You even quoted that.

Also, I'm a dude. Just fyi.
