I like Nian's idea. I think shells are the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback all! And the compliments

Nian convinced me to go back a bit towards the origin. So mermaid influences gogo. The greenblueish dots are resembling the places I'm going to add scales. Some more transparent then others, so a bit of a skinscale combination. Hope her chest looks a bit better this way, I narrowed it and changed the boobs a bit (mostly because I was going to loose the bikini, so they would fall more).
I tried adjusting the pupil a bit more like DBAA said, but in the progress she has gotten a lazy eye xd So I will need to look into that more Think I'm going to redo the face a bit anyway to make it more characteristic instead of so softly and smooth looking.
2 more days till exam. bleh can't wait till I have vacation >.>

The palettes on this one look really nice. I love her angelic/innocent look. The subtle freckles is a nice touch.

Nice color palette on this one, Toms. The scale design is a good call - more interesting than the shell idea most people tend to use.

Progress on Gattsu's Ram. I figured it would look ugly in the colored pencil sketch style, so I figured I'd make it a quick digital painting. Quite a beastly ram!

Found the previous version a bit too monotoned, so I figured I should play some around with the colors. What would suit better, Charr home wastelands or this ghostly scene?

oh I really love the ghostly blues it'd be even better if the sky had some of the old reds and browns too around the top edges to balance everything out a bit

Ya the first one syncs up quite well but the ghostly blues are just epic. I like Morag's idea to use reds around the top. It'd give the whole piece something like a twilight hours feel.

I think Tommy's get a kick out of making us die in anticipation thinking on how these drawings are gonna look finished! The new one is looking great too. You're right, the blue background made it stand out more.

Hahahahahaha, Oh Mina, you make me feel so evil >:]
I've promised myself not to start any new digital works before I finished the old though. Gattsu's Ram is in a stage of approval, currently working on a commission of a cute doggie (don't know if the requester wants his/her name out here). Then its time for Mina to get finished, together with Frost Kisses, going to completely redo frost. Then, I'm finally going to finish my mermaid thingie

The way the ears and horns are shaped remind me of a charr

I really like the idea with the ghostly background. They remind me of the spirits you see in that Ascalon Dungeon intro. The spirit on the right is really cool, though his stance seems a bit strange. The silhouette could be stronger if you open the stance up, and bring in more negative space in between areas - that way he doesn't just look like one big shape.

The Ram character is very cool too. Definitely like the axe head attached instead of a bayonet. He definitely reminds me more of a Charr - mainly the horns and that his face isn't as elongated as that of a ram's.

Thanks all
And yes Charlie, I got the idea from the ghost from the Ascalon Dungeon trailer But you'll need to explain me the negative space part of your comment, you really lost me there

Some progress on my next commission:

Colors are not 100% spot on, somehow photobucket changes the color of things I upload. Kind of annoying..

Pretty sure it's going to look really good since you seem to be really good at drawing animals. :P

I think by "negative space" he means portions in between the legs. Like you'd be able to see the shape of the leg and what not. I like them as they are though. They're not a focal point so the blend into the background.

Not my favorite breed of dog but it's definitely looking good so far.

Looks great! My favorite part in that drawing has got to be that armored guy on the left. I dunno, I just like how you painted him and the texture of his armor.

And the dog is looking awesome so far. You really got a knack for drawing animals. It looks so effortless.

The dog is looking good so far - especially the brush strokes you used on the fur. Looks really convincing.

By negative space, I mean all the space between the arms, legs, and where the body meets the rocks. Negative space plays a huge part in doing poses because it's related to designing silhouettes. I don't want to de-rail the thread with a massive walkthrough, so I'll keep it short. When doing poses, you should be able to determine the action or personality of the character WHILE it is completely covered black. In other words, if you looked at a solid black silhouette of a figure, you shouldn't have much trouble deciphering what's happening.

This is how a lot of artists create poses with strong characters and personality. Not only that, it also helps you recognize patterns/designs since it forces you to continually re-work poses.

If you were to take the ghost and make a silhouette, you wouldn't be able to tell it's in an aggressive pose. The tilted angle is good, but the lack of negative space is what complicates it. Things to fix it would be introducing space between his arm and body, showing space between his legs and the rocks, and making the cape flow in a certain direction.

I know the Ram pic is already done and the ghost is a small part of it, but this is just a little tip that you can try bringing into future works. I'll write a much more detailed synopsis later on when I'm working on Drelias' pic.

Thanks for that info Charlie, I really plan on keeping that in mind in further works, will give me a whole new process.

Progressed a bit on mermaid, tried to adjust her skin a bit with tutorials I read today, think it worked quite well for a first timer Still need to fix her darned nose, I just seem to fail at getting it right >:[ Next up, finishing the arm and hair. The quit water is a placeholder, it probably will become a quiet sea, so with little waves.

The tuts I read:

Sorry frost, but you got dumped. Speeded the Djinn in, trying to practice on speed a bit, this took almost an hour.

Now starting to render the Djinn a bit more, but want to keep it rough.

Not very productive lately, addicted to Suits, a new tv-serie. Luckily, I can't watch more now as the next one still needs to come out.

Anyway, Self Portrait, full view if you want to see in what canvas I painted it. Was a speed practice, after I had the sketch down and looking like me, it took me 1 hour.

Wow, that djinn is amazing for a speed paint :O poor frost though maybe she can make an appearance as attacking the djinn from the behind so they both can be in the pic

Love the pokemon!!!

And the Djinn is just a speedpaint? DAMN!

Also love the self-portrait. I am always thinking of making one but I just never seem to get the time or in the mood for it. Besides, I never take good pics of myself lol
