Variants:
-Some kind of speed boost (dash/dark escape works great)
Note: this is necessary if you don't use a cupcake or some other kind of speed boost in order to lose agro.

-Death's Charge for a teleport/self heal.
-More damage (fire storm? dunno)

Shadow Arts: 12+4
Fire Magic: 7
Air Magic: 4
Earth Magic: 10

Note: adjust the attributes as needed to get 26 damage per wave of lava font. You really don't need that much earth magic.

Equipment:
-Full Blessed, Sup shadow headpiece (+4)
-Some kind of staff or high energy set with +20% enchant, Earth magic prefered for rod damage.
-Some kind of 1h Martial weapon (sword, Axe, spear) with +5e and 20% enchant.
-A shield with +45 health while enchanted and -2 while enchanted mod.
-A zealous scythe with 20% enchant.

You also might want to bring your heroes (well you don't NEED them, but it makes the run a bit faster :P). Equip them however you like. I personally suggest a prot bond monk with UA and essence bond, an SoS rit, and some kind of nuker that will expedite things. You can leave them in chamber dead so they wont take your drops.

For chambers, do the first pull like any other wastes farmer. If you don't know how, go watch a video or go to pvx, I'm too lazy to detail how here.

Synopsis:
1. Take quest
2. Put on Shadow form
3. Pull grasps and lose aatxe
4. kill the grasps with your skills
Note: use unseen fury to blind the grasps before you recast SF or your skills. Also it might be good to cancel cast something cheap like death's charge twice before actually casting to make SURE nothing goes wrong :P


After you clear chambers, run up the twin serpent mountains and into the chaos plains.

Some tips:
1. Equip your martial weapon and shield here and the behemoths wont attack you at all.
2. Use a speed boost to steer clear of and lose agro from the charged blacknesses.
3. Use Unseen fury to get out of chambers alive and to recast SF when grasps are around
4. Don't DC into traps. It's embarrassing.

Once you arrive in plains, you are home free. Go mob up some riders and mind blades and spam away. With armor and SF, you're invincible. Grats.

Some tips:
1. Use your scythe. It's a lot of energy.
2. Enemies only kite to THEIR left YOUR right (if you are facing them). If you block them on a right wall, they wont run away from you.
3. You can kill the skeletons by pulling them into an area where they don't have line of sight of you and kill them with firestorm. It's very slow. In general, just don't do it :P Better to lose agro with your speedboost.
4. If you have some pumpkin pie, it can speed things up a lot. Your choice on whether you want to pop one.

You can also easily farm the bone pits with this build, as well as pools if you avoid the charged blacknesses. You could probably clear wastes too, but I haven't tested it.

My first run took a bit under an hour to vanquish plains, sans the one dream rider + spawns right inside of all the skeletons, but that was mostly because of technical difficulties with the chambers part (I made it to plains around time = 20mins). I got 4 ectos in that run, dunno if that's average, low or high, so I wont comment on the efficiency of the build, other than it does work, and permas are not useless at all :P

I reckon anet just buffed shadow form. Just use stoneflesh aura or even unseen fury. Heck it is even easier to maintain. After some calculations at 16 SA it is maintainable with a 20% enchant mod. Therefore you have more skill slots. It can be maintained at 12 shadow arts with a 20% enchant mod and glyph of swiftness. Therefore eles can use it too. I have not tested this though but the calculations should be correct.

I can make pictures if you want, but it's really pretty basic :\ Maybe tomorrow :P

And mark really wont do much, since you can't hex mindblades post nerf. They no long cast 2391738291 things and drain their own energy. LoD is nice, but really it doesn't add much since you damage is limited to 26 a hit. I personally just bring a speed boost for making the run there faster and to lose agro from the aatxes.

Getting out of the chamber is the toughest bit, I take 3 heroes n clear most of the way to the mountain entry, then run from there. Adds 5 mins or so to the run but makes it a lot more reliable. With ecto at 9k each its worth the few mins extra.

Just btw, i did it with a friend like this:

He was a Ritualist spirit spammer - 1. Easier to kill grasps at the start.

I was perma with a little changed build - Plains Way

The Ritualist after he cleared the chamber, went the wastes way, i did the plains, at the end ~40 mins of farming he had 5 and i had 7e.

It's just an easier way to do it .

I have not farmed ectos in 2 months because I didn't need anything and was bored of the old build.

right first it works but here are some more tipss.
don't use speed cons because the enemies break agro
watch sf reducing the recharge increases the energy over time.
imo screw snow storm take mark of rodgart. kills faster.
take a -2 shield
make sure you don't take on too many dream riders they can do a bit of dmg
you make 5-7e a run and I got the time down to 35mins basically 100k an hour.
the old burning speed works as well
take life bond + barrier to take axattack damage down to 10-21 taking only 2axattacks u can solo.
wastes doesn't work; smites use soj when u attack with scythe unless u manage energy well
when facing skeles strafe dodge and run or bring heroes, or use flare spam, works well, but taakes away slot
can't keep it up with just a 20% enchant mod
BU gives you about +7 secs
can do pools take DC to escape charges.
When running to the planes and if u have to go near behemoths put up AoE ans Shroud of Distress. then keep walking through.
Whenn facing CB equ p 10 vs lightning and run like mad, if you are unsure about running use a bday cake and also bring iau

that's all so far gonna try pits.

Could someone please post a video or more detailed description. I've never made it out of lab and I think a good portion of the people viewing this haven't either. Also, don't fire storm and snow storm cause scatter even when they're against the wall unless you have like 1/5 health?

EDIT: Thank you below. Still don't know about the scatter though. Also, storm djjins haste seems like it would work well for running.

I did mention that taking heroes for the chambers pull makes it easier :P.

What I do is bring a prot bond hero (with Shield of judgement as the elite) with essence bond and put it on myself, and bring a rit spiker with the new spirit rift/d.glaive/a. rage, and a jesusbeam monk. Then I pull the agro much in the same way as UWSC before the dhuum update, and get my heroes to kill all that at once. I can get out the door at /age = 1 that way.

And it is quite possible to run to plains without heroes, you just have to pop a speed boost and avoid aatxes. They lose agro really fast in NM, so as long as you don't run INTO them, you can get to mountains with the current build. It's just tough timing shadow form so you don't have to recast it while aatxes are on you.

I'm not sure why everyone says Mark of Rodgort is useful, because hexbreaker kinda kills it. I tried it the first run I did, and honestly it's not useful at all.

Oh and Pits is easily doable. Nothing there can kill you with armor up except the skeles, and you can run past them with a speed boost.

Edit: Use fire attunement if you are bad at autoattacking with a scythe.
And I might do a video later, but I'm quite busy this weekend, so it might have to wait


and oh. I forgot to mention. THIS IS ON NORMAL MODE. It's much harder to lose agro in HM, and some attacks get through. Shouldn't be a problem if you are just going for ectos.

I'm too lazy to read all the posts but Blue prolly said that this isn't completely set in stone. Personally when I went I didnt take Unseen Fury, and I got out of chamber no problemo. Will update within next few hours

I don't know why, but the Aatxes aren't breaking agro for me when I have Dark Escape up. Which kinda ruins the build.

EDIT: lol my bad. Now I'm just having E manage problems with Fear Me.
EDIT2: And wtf are you supposed to do about Dazed..?
EDIT3: Pretty difficult build. I was able to clear the chamber no problems but got one too many graspings on my ass while I ran towards the mountains and got wtfpwned.

I decided to test it out, did chamber easily. Just leaving the chamber is the hardest part, I always have enemies on my ass while I'm running to the mountains. I'll just wait till you post a vid and screenshots before I give it another twirl.

So bassically, heros help. A lot. Only need them to get into mnts, and they speed it up quite a bit.

I use 3 heros, a RoJ/Bonder, a SoS, and a SS/Resto Necro. Easy to clear the way in a few minutes with the right pulls.

Now, you need to micro a few skills on the Bonder, should be common sense.

The first thing I do when I zone in is get me Prot Bonded and ready to pull the 3 aatxes.

Might wanna be smart and pop the nightmare, pull, kill, then pull and kill the skele before attempting this

They go down fairly quickly with SS and RoJ


Note:
Bonds may drop with them wailing on you, as they did on me. It's not a big deal, they should die easily

Now you need to pull all the grasps, it shouldn't be too difficult. Pull them the same way I did, blocking them on the stairs or in another place.


Note: Need a speedboost to lose aatxe's, or else you just need to pull them aswell, like I did



Now we need to get to the entrance to Mountains. Not too hard. Few pics of pulls:





So now that all the shit is gone, I run into mountains. A few things here.
Use a martial weapon (Spear Sword Axe etc.) so that the behemoth's dont attack you.
Use a +10 Vs Lightning shield just incase the charged smack you.
Use HIGH health or Blessed armor. Notice how I changed mine.
Speedboost helps a ton.
Keep Moving.


Note: I dodged the charged, probably a good Idea.


Note: I go this way because I don't like getting trapped, even though im carrying deaths charge.

So now im in Plains:

I start by killing the two wailing lords and the banished thing right infront. I ball them together so I can Scythe for energy. They kite when they get under 25%, so it gets slow, but its still not hard. You don't need Armor of Earth untill you have about 12 enemies on you. Before that Shroud heals for more then enough.

Note: Scything is mandatory without Fire Attunement

After I kill the first banished, I aggro the 3 mindblade pop, and go and kill this banished


I then ball all 6 Mindblades together, and kill em.

Note: Remember to have a wall to their left.

I then ball both 6spawn's together, now using Armor of Earth when I start dropping below ~25%. Same for the 9spawn's.

There is a trick you can do if you decide to run without armor. That is pulling em like this:

Note: This way their wand attacks dont hit you, but your AoE still hits them. It's hard on energy since you can't scythe, but it is an option if you decide not to run Armor of Earth

Continue like this for any other groups you want to kill, its not hard. I avoid Skeles.

The Bone Pits:

Easy to do, although it's slower and it's near impossible to get things to stay on you, not to mention all the patrolling skele's.


Note: You pretty much need Armor of Earth here.

couple things ive noticed:

this is deathly slow.
agro can break (nm) regardless of blocks.
behemoths can still wand you with shield/sword (not all of the stack should but an odd one)
aatxe hit hard (hm)

not sure if this is worth it for the time it takes. but i guess if youre new to uw gotta start somewhere

When I saw the skill update, I wasn't convinced.. And here is the proof..

@Arenanet.. Is it so hard to just give the skill an 50 energy cost? *sigh*. Why do you want to keep it usable? 75% of all the skills in the game are useless anyways..

For some one that's never done plains before, I really like this build. The hardest part about it is definitely getting the chamber down. Took me about 15 tries before I figured out the proper 1234 on the skills (after you pull the grasps to the corner, you don't need to maintain anything besides shroud of distress). I don't prefer the heroes, I'd rather kill the grasps then split.

Cupcakes have been awesome for the run to the plains. Thinking about trying this with Essences for some more damage skills. Will radiation field work here? Or are mindblades not fleshy? Keeping aggro on plains shouldn't be a problem during pulls if you have armor of earth up.

EDIT: Wiki FTW. Mindblades can't be diseased.

Just thought of something... couldn't you go A/Me. You could take physical resistance over armor of earth, and conjure phantasm with cop. Also channeling for e-management. I'm just thinking of this off the top of my head, might try it later.

OK, so I guess my first few runs had lucky spawns in the mountains. tried the run alone maybe 15-20 times today and i keep getting destroyed by behemoth traps at the entrance to mountains. Any tips on how to dodge/survive these things even when the behemoths are in the center of the doorway?

Speedboost and Deaths Charge is all I can say. Usually you can get around them, but its NM. So even if you can't, DC to one, youll be on the other side, and just make sure your moving right away so you only get hit by the first volley of traps. You should live though that without a sweat.
