Countdown to GW2
2 pages • Page 2
I figure a couple of small things like Dhuum's update for Halloween. I doubt we'll see anything big, like giant tsunami's flooding Lions Arch and the GToB, but little things like they did for the other campaigns as Arduin pointed out. Probably open the boardwalk up the weekend before the release as well.
Now, I wouldn't mind at all if we got something big as a last hurrah for our characters and for GW1 as a whole. It would more than likely be the last major content update GW1 will receive. But, I just don't see them doing anything too extensive unless Arenanet unleashes the bulk of their team back to GW1 for a little bit.

Q
If GW2 is like GW1 it's not going to sell very well. Most players aren't going to throw money into the wind for the same game with a 2 added to it. There's going to have to be MAJOR improvements for me to buy into it no matter what they produce to lead into it from GW1. If it doesn't have a power chain evolution next time around I'm certainly not buying into it. I'm tired of 15^50 and +30 being the endgame stats. I'm tired of just pressing 1-2-3 and things drop dead. There's no skill in that no matter what build you use. I'm also tired of them allowing gimmick builds to survive as long as the do and turning what should be a popular group playing game into a stupid childish solofest for children under 12.

Will we see things in GW1 that hint the coming events taking place in GW2 as we get closer to its launch? Is a big event planned at the release day?

- Primordus
- Jormag
- Zhaitan
- Kralkatorrik
- A dragon with no name who resides in the deep sea
Three of these dragons are easily visible in GW:EN. Of course these dragons are dormant and not yet awake.
- Primordus (Located hibernating in the Domain of The Great Destroyer)
- Jormag (Located frozen under the waters of Drakkar Lake)
- Kralkatorrik (Located hibernating in the middle of the Charr Homelands)
Zhaitan is located underwater in the sunken city of Orr. We cannot yet travel there, but if you look on your world map where Orr would be, there is instead a bowl of water. The dragon is located there.
The dragon with no name does not have a definite known location, but it is known that he resides in the deep sea.
If you watch the cinematic following the death of the Great Destroyer (Ogden's Benediction), you will find out that Primordus, the dragon sleeping behind the Great Destroyer is awakening. In its exact words the cinematic states:
"The greatest threat of all was yet to come."
and
"In the years to come, new threats would arise in Tyria."

The cinematic also shows that a new race (the Sylvari) would be created. If you have read the GW2 lore, you would see the correspondence between the pictures in the cinematic and the description
"New creatures would stir."

If you wanted to, you could visit the village that got burned and the tree that Ronan and Ventari catered to. This seed blossomed into the tree that woud give birth to the Sylvari. It is in the center of the Arbor Bay zone...and it is called "Ventari's Sanctuary".
So the answer to your question is YES. Things in GW2 are definitely revealing the future events in GW2.

We probably have less than a year till Guild Wars 2 is released (or at least beta) and i want to ask the following questions: Will we see things in GW1 that hint the coming events taking place in GW2 as we get closer to its launch? Is a big event planned at the release day?

I recall ANet saying somewhere that they'd like to have a beta running by the end of this year with the finished product coming out in the first half of '11. Given how far away even that much is, it's not a guess that can be counted on completely.
The OP is concerned with whether you believe that more content will be released in the future to bridge the gap between what happens in GW and what happens in GW2, not with whether there already exist things in GW that foreshadow the coming of things in GW2.

If I remember correctly, they had said that in one of their released end of the quarter spreadsheets. I don't know if anyone still has the link to that though.
anet says a lot of things... like how they wanted to push back the beta testing date closer to the release date (i.e. 2011 release date likely means 2011 beta date). don't believe everything your told (except for the things that i say of course).
regarding the preview info, its likely they'll have some cross-game marketing schemes. try to get gw1 players to stop playing it and switch over to gw2, and try to get gw2 newcomers to buy gw1 but not actually play it.

I don't think it's very likely that there will be a slew of new players who pickup GW2 who haven't played GW1. The big crossover will have to come from their old customer base who have left for various reasons. I feel it's going to take a lot to pull them back in. Bringing something new and different an above all else lives by skill and not gimmick builds or SF/600 smite builds. Skill has left GW's for grind and silliness. The greatest players have left and taken a good chunk of many with them. Like I said and I'm sure I speak for many more if there's nothing really new an impressive about GW2 there will be no need to buy into it. We've already seen +15^50 and +30hp and stupid gimmick builds galore they allowed for years. I'm not buying back into that again. Plus a persistant type world is just crying out for trouble within the masses and more griefing than you ever saw in GW1.
