I like being able to experience the War in Kryta as it happens and witnessing the storyline development leading into Guild Wars 2. All of this seemed odd to me when it started, but things have turned out well so far overall. I miss the Falken runs, but there is still plenty to do in the game.

However, I dislike seeing the typical human lack of self-responsibility amongst those who actually believed that moddable greens would remain in the game. They spun the roulette wheel and put all their chips on blue, but somehow it is someone else's fault.

I understand that they are running on limited resources, but I can't help the feeling that WiK is very small compared to the 4th year update (same resources).

Mini-rant aside, new content is ALWAYS a good thing in my book.

I liked:

- multiple profession skillbars on enemies. That revived Kryta for me.
- mixed and well balanced groups. Different from the usual monoprofession mobs.
- the new bounties. Yes, there were the Zaishen bounties too, but I like them anyway.

Hope to see more (maybe what the medals are used for...)

the 4th year update was just rejuvenating areas with daily quests. yes, it is content, but nothing special. WiK however adds new stuff to those areas and presents a new way to tell a story. The real start of WiK (content people can experience by playing the game) was delayed, but so far it leaves some good impressions and gives at lot of players to do something that was not there before. however the really good stuff is probably yet to come and gwers are able to bridge the time frame between gw2 info updates by experiencing new stuff (new mechanics: courier activities and stories).

- Storage Pane upgrades + Free storage pane.
- HoM update from character based to account based.
- Zaishen Bounties with rewards.
- Zaishen Menagerie (an entire new area)
- Makeovers
- Name changes
- Nicholas the Traveler.

I liked the Courier Falken runs, before they nerfed it out of obviation (and Courier Falken not infused to the point that doing Falken runs in HM is impossible). Also, the so called "bounty reward improvements," they didn't even RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing improve the rewards at all. In fact, the rewards are still the same (3-4 WS or 10-15 WS).

I think ArenaNet is trying to make it impossible to get even 10 Royal Gifts at one day.

What a shame they don't just hand us 50 free a day eh? Maybe they'll be worth something.

What?

Also I find it funny that some people actually WANT to grind stuff, just do the daily and maybe a couple of escorts and leave it at that.

I love the WiK updates. I don't know about anyone else but I'm really excited to see what King Adelburn has to say about helping the Shining Blade and Princess Salma. Something tells me Captain Langmar's advanced help won't sit well with him.

They made it impossible to get 10 gifts of the traveler a day too :,(
they should burn for adding new things to the game that doesn't make EVERYONE happy!!!

Personally I like having something to do when I feel like doing it, go look for new minis that drop from mobs and hell if Falken shows up and wants to give me something for tagging along great, he even makes extra mobs to kill.
10 supplies was too many for how easy it is imo.
3+1 may be lower then people want but it is more then what you got for walking through the same zones a month ago.

4th year had new mechanics too.
daily quest rejuvenate areas and especially outposts, but it is no original content in comparison to wik.
storage panes, makeovers and name changes are mini transactions I wouldn't consider content at all.
the zaishen menagerie is nice and stuff, but it has no real value for playing the game. well, you can change you pets, but who uses them in a meaningful (non-corpse driven) way. also, it is for single users only.
nicholas the travel is similar to zaishen bounties. it gives farmers more areas to farm.

the free storage pane is nice and the other added features are aswell. however the fifth update and how it is presented is much more thoughful and its excitement will last much longer, because it will probably give players the opportunity to experience something, which is new to the game and was not seen before.

even in the last months people talked more about wik than any other anniversary update and there was some press coverage too. anet is definately heading for something similar to furnace of sorrow or bmp.

Yeah, cause once you're at the point where you can do the WiK stuff, there's nothing more valuable than Scrolls of Adventurer's Insight....

Still, my timing couldn't have been better. I can't be arsed to do the bounties and junk because of the lousy ROI, but I still get to fight the new baddies since I'm Vanqing Kryta now.

My only complaint is spammy hard rezzes in boss groups outnumbering the party 2:1 seems a little bit sadistic.

why would anet nerf the rewards at such a low when the royal gifts mostly give you crap?? it's not motivating anymore at all. Anet freakin boost the falken rewards back and especially increase the bounty rewards much higher.

otherwise, I'm done with WiK for now, not rewarding after the first time to experience the new areas.

For me, its not so much that the rewards aren't worth it, but Falken is literally impossible in HM unless you're on a monk. I've taken 2 healer monks running UA/HB along with the hench monk and they do not prioritize healing of Falken. Yes, I can micromanage a bit, but its not very effective.

I would like the White Mantle weapons...once they are released. Here's hoping they come out tomorrow.

It was nice to be reminded that Kryta is more than a few tents and half arsed houses thrown together. There was a few annoying moment when dealing with the new enemies (Inquisitor Bauer especially) but overall I've enjoyed it.

afaik their armors are not infused (like armors of henchies in kryta).

I think it's funny one of the three strong women calls out Gwen's gender during the Ice Cliff Chasm's dialogue almost like it's an insult. Rather than respecting her as a soldier like she does for Langmar and Thackery, she attacks Gwen by calling her a "girl".

I'm liking everything except a few minor things:
*hardness of obtaining war supplies (after courier was balanced) as long as they're not asking for like 50 medals of honour i'll be fine though.
*the fact that only accounts with prophecies and eotn can acess this, it's war in kryta but to get past dialogues that have no effect on the world, you must witness zinn's trial?

XD i did awful just now after getting courier in hm on watchtower coast. the spawns are kinda craXy 0_o maybe it's just because i'm not used to UW-esque spawns in kryta.

Uh I think that's because of her childish attitude in that situation. In fact she wasn't at all behaving like a soldier but as a jelous and selfless little girl.

Gwen: "The charr keep our hands full, Krytan. You think we'll abandon all that we've bled for and march down to Kryta, just to bail you out?"
Evennia: "The only thing I expect girl, is that the Vanguard would express gratitude after Kryta took in so many Ascalonion refugees!"
Captain Langmar: "Gwen has a valid point, Evennia. Ascalon needs the Vanguard here in the Shiverpeaks. However, we have no love for the White Mantle... should we agree, what is Princess Salma prepared to do for Ascalon?"

Gwen said nothing childish before Evennia called her a girl, she had a valid point as Langmar said. There was nothing childish about it.

Maybe it was for all her poses and for she would have tried to find every excuse to keep thackeray there?
But maybe you're right, in that part there's nothing childish, I didn't remember the exact part of dialogue you were referring to.

The "bail you out" part is probably what ticked Evennia off. Like the SB got themselves into that mess, and Kryta has never done anything for Ascalon.

Agreed, in my opinion it's how Gwen said it that comes off as childish. Not only that, but Gwen is....19 isn't she? That could alter how Evennia sees her.

Frankly, I'm enjoying ALL of it. The bounties. The courier escort. The new enemies. The new drops. It's all fun.

About Gwen... I really don't like her at all. It's seems whoever is in charge of her dialogue is doing a very poor job of making her a sympathetic character. Almost everytime she speaks it's to rage, whine or complain about something. The only time I can think of where she sounds reasonable is when you talk to her in the HoM. She says, in a very nice voice "how can I help?". But every other time she opens her mouth, I cringe.

Well, lets be honest, how could you NOT expect her to be like that? Her world came to an end in perhaps the worst way possible. She was a prisoner of the Charr for seven years, during which time they did god knows what to her. Under similar circumstances, can you say that you'd come out of it all smiles and rainbows?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Gwen is the only person who actually suffered during the searing, I know for a fact that no other Ascalonian lost their families to the Charr, and she is undoubtedly the only child to have lived through that horrible ordeal...

Seriously, I don't recall Erol turning into a whiny bitch the second he was freed from years of Charr captivity...

Keiran seems to be of a similar age to Gwen, he lives everyday fighting the Charr out in the field, and he still loses friends to them while Gwen is sulking about in the tower... he seems to somehow have managed to not turn into a pathetic little emo...

Gwen is just a whiny little fail-bunny, somebody buy her a red cloak and flute, maybe she'll shut the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO up for a while...

1). Not all of those Ascalonians were prisoners.
2). Erol was only a prisoner for two years, and he was an adult when he was taken.
3). Not everyone copes with trauma the same way. Some people shut themselves away, others surround themselves with people to keep themselves busy and their minds off said trauma. Oh, and just because someone is sad and angry does NOT automatically make them a damned Emo. Emos act that way to seem cool.

Gwen may not be nice, her behavior might not make her sympathetic, but she IS believable, and quite frankly that is all that matters.

I also think she has all the reason to behave like that, to have a similar personality forged by all her suffering. And remember how she was as a child, when we first met her. An happy and joyful child, jumping around all the day. Just think what all the searing and captivity may have done to such a child. And then see how she's fragile under her coat, but she thinks better to hide it and look strong, other way she would be destroyed, by pain and everything else. At least, that's how I see her. For sure seen from a casual meeter she looks like the most hateble and childish person in the word, a stubborn little girl, and that's for sure how Evennia (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall she knows anything personal about Gwen) sees her in their meeting.

I like that mobs kill the bosses for me

I was doing todays quest (Amalek) and while I'm still quite a bit away from the quest mob the quest updates.

So the group of mantles before were killed by a group of ***goyles with a mesmer boss in it (Hew Gruntruck), I kill those and go for the group where the mantle boss should be and they had been killed by Tengu of which only 2 were still alive.

Another advantage of doing it in HM since obviously that couldn't happen in normal.

Still found it rather amusing

Infusion is pretty much required for melee characters. Especially assassins and dervishes who don't have the luxury of a shield for the extra AL. So not only are they getting pummeled by the mantle melee and spells, they're also the prime target for spectral agony. Even without the other stuff, 600 damage in five seconds from SA is no joke.

They could always have updated infusion into a simple Title, when active your infused, no need to do that mission every time you buy another piece of armor.

To be fair, we've never seen any child prisoners of the Charr. Probably because they were all killed for sport (see: Gwen's escape).

Erol was a soldier, Gwen a small child. Big difference.

First off, I think he's probably a tad bit older. Secondly, he obviously volunteered as a soldier.

I'll leave you with this: let's see how you would fare in a similar situation. Imagine if, instead of this nice cushy life you have now, you watched your family (and entire nation) get engulfed in flames, grew up in a slave camp where you were tortured regularly, and developed ridiculous mental powers at a very young age with which you can literally kill someone. Tell me you wouldn't be just a tad screwy in the head.

Ridiculously hard? I have yet to need a second go at a boss for anything in the War in Kryta except for the one time I got stupid and decided to play with pugs instead of H&H.
