I would propose an alternative suggestion for gwamm. An emote. PVP has 2 emote tracks currently. Why not an emote track for GWAMM? Emotes are controlled by a time delay and after the first few weeks people would use them a lot less. So they would have a nice little reward without cluttering towns with "always on" special effects.

I wouldn't mind an emote, but I don't think it's worth the time. The point of an emote is to show off rank in a title, but we already have the title, so...

GWAMM has already one great thing:
- You can carry it to GW2.
Each god gives something to each profession, although some gods are more focused than others in certain professions.
The simplest way to see it is the list of blessings:
Warrior of Balthazar
Ranger of Melandru
Monk of Dwayna
Mesmer of Lyssa
Necromancer of Grenth
Assassin of Lyssa
Ritualist of Grenth
Disciple of Energy - Lyssa
Disciple of Fire - Balthazar
Disciple of Ice - Grenth
Disciple of the Air - Dwayna
Disciple of the Earth - Melandru
Dervish of the Blade - Balthazar
Dervish of the Earth - Melandru
Dervish of the Mystic - Lyssa
Dervish of the Wind - Dwayna
Paragon of Command - Balthazar
Paragon of Leadership - Dwayna
Paragon of Motivation - Dwayna
Paragon of the Spear - Balthazar
- You can carry it to GW2.
Quote:
Professions need not necessarily be linked to gods . Relaxing this assumption leads to:
1. Dhuum for derv (even more reason to reward dervs who are least played) 2. Kormir/Archemorus for para 3. Saint Viktor/Togo for rit 4. Vizu/Shiro for sin 5. Can't fit anything specific for eles, but Dwayna/Lyssa are close enough. |

Hmmm... If you want your chars to glow, I say find a way to make it happen with texmod. I personally don't use it, as the way ANet has set up the visuals for GW is plenty good enough for me, but I know a lot of people that do. As far as I know, it's not against the EULA to alter graphics, etc, so long as ONLY you can see it, and it does not alter game mechanics, give advantages, disadvantages, etc, correct? That way the rest of us don't have to wander around Shing Jae, or Kamadan, seeing a thousand glowing masses that used to resemble characters.

lol at ppl saying you need no life to get gwamm, it isn't hard at all (got mine in 2008 on a char I made purposely to do it and did it in 2 months playing a few hours a night (not a no life 18hour game basher)
it doesn't need a glow, emote or anything else, you got gwamm, gz, now move on to something else

isnt recognition what the title is for? i would be much more concerned about getting a HoM title for 50/50, instead of Grinder Walking Amongst Meer Mortals

/aura no, but I dont see any reason why there shouldnt be a set of emotes for the kind of a big deal title track. It certainly holds more value then the zaishen track..

You can check the box to show off your title. The aura would be annoying if many were grouped together.

Far from getting GWAMM (and prob won't), but i'm surprised at the number of people who are against this.
Is it because of jealousy ?
Those people put so many hours in GW, I think they should get something more than a title.
It's just like those who are against putting more reward for post 30 points on the HoM.
I don't understand the mentality here, considering all rewards are cosmetic.

The problem is that people seem to think that other people actually care about what titles you have. Titles are completely meaningless and GWAMM deserves little to no recognition. You've got your title, that's all you were going to get. I don't want people with their stupid glow in my face everytime I zone into an outpost. Titles are for personal benefit, and if you're disappointed that I couldn't care less that you grinded out some titles then that's your problem. GWAMM isn't really an achievement so much as an indication you've been playing for a while and care for such things.
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, but boss auras aren't really all that noticeable or obtrusive, and certainly aren't as distracting as Chaos Gloves, which everyone and their dog seems to have now.
If you don't care for GWAMM or what it represents, then you obviously should have no problem if ANet gives out a cosmetic reward for achieving it, seeing as how its unimportant to you.
Nobody gets GWAMM through normal play, otherwise everyone who's beaten the campaigns would have it, therefore it IS a title that represents more than average dedication.
While I have no idea if ANet would implement a "glowy" for the title, its certainly not a bad idea, and according to your logic there's no real reason against it.

Also, dedication doesn't necessarily qualify you for a reward. You put a lot of time into something. Big deal. Doing hundreds of MQSC's for the lux title doesn't say anything about you other than you spent the time doing it. If I spent several hours counting the grains of rice in a 10kg bag should I get a medal? Of course not, I didn't do anything noteworthy, just wasted a crapload of time.

No.
-I do have GWAMM
-I believe it was quite easy to get. It's not a matter of time or skill, it's just a matter of playing with a little bit of direction.
-I am not a fan of the glowy armors and abjectly impressive equipment. Function > Form.
Make of those points what you will.

So it "glows". What does that make you? famous?
I don't care one bit of that, its just show-off. Besides the effect doesn't contribute anything, its just there for "eye candy". After awhile, you'll get use to it and ask for something else.

Like I posted earlier, very simple solution to people that hate the idea seeing other people's glowing aura, just allow them to switch off "gwamm aura" in their client so they don't see it.
If 10% - 20% of people want this and it doesn't effect the rest because their hatred of it can easily be accomodated then my attitude is "why not?". It then only boils down to whether Anet should invest the time for the proportion of community that wants it.
Furthermore, some people have complained that it's all about ego and the need to show off. For me it really isn't. I know I'm a very mediocre player (both in game and in real life). I finally crawled over the finish line in last place, way behind most of the GW people I know who have Gwamm. I'm not bothered about being last. I was happy for them when they got the title and I'm pleased that I finally got mine. I just want more of a reward for dedicating so much time to the game that I love and am easily pleased with shiny things.

you have the reward, a title you can have others see, i personally dont care to see a bunch of glowing auras on the few occassions i decide to stay in an outpost for more than 5 minutes, just like i dont care to see some random fireworks display some noob decided he/she wanted to throw

If I was the game designer, I would've given stuff like golden wings (ala aion) or maybe a shiny king's crown for a hat. Something to reward those who put the time for it.
It's all cosmetic, so nothing to whine about since it doesn't unbalance the game.

Second you can display your title so anyone can see it
Third IMO GWAMM has been so devaluated that it's not worth showing it...

This might have made sense for the first x amount of accounts with a GWAMM when 30 titles was somewhat prestigious but not now. The times have moved on and 30 titles has became easier and easier to get.
Marty might have his grumpy face on,but he's 100% right.

I have to say the ideas of an emote or name displaying in gold instead of blue are more to my taste than a glow. I tend to go for detailed armours and like picking out interesting dye combinations. I don't really want that messed up by becoming a neon-tinted blur when I get my GWAMM.
So yeah, emote/gold name sure.
Aura? Nty.

Side note: Am I the only person who finds the "Kind of a Big Deal" title and title track ironic these days?

Me, because I had to earn 30 other titles to wear a title that explains what I already had been, but I guess now I no longer have to explain it to anyone.

It has been suggested many times (and at least once in the official feedback pages in the wiki) and I would only agree with it if it was active ONLY in towns and outposts, and ONLY if the title is selected.
In PvP IA has the glow, and in PvE, bosses have it. So only towns and outpsots. |
