Hey think positive! Maybe they're using their resources to give us a really cool Halloween update?

Pretty much what Vodka said.
The only way I can see them redeeming themselves is if they top it all off by allowing 7 heroes.

ok, thats pretty much the only good point
i was afraid for a sec it'd be a rit nerf, as a few have been complaining about rits with spirits (even though a rit was made to have them -_-)
i was hoping for the full hero teams in pve, but i think its just false hope they gave us
this update is useless for me, lets hope for a better one next time

I've gone back to Diablo 2 instead of this game. And I found myself wondering why? I've probably put x2 hours into Diablo 2 than Guild Wars and yet somehow it's more fun to replay. And then I realized its because I feel like I'm getting rewarded with what I do.
Guild Wars kinda failed to do that for me. Before I go any further, this is my opinion, I am not implying that this is the same for everyone else. When I farm Mephisto (A Boss) It takes around 5 minutes and although it is very unlikely that I get anything useful, I still feel as if there is a solid chance.
In Guild Wars you farm a dungeon/area it can take between 45 minutes to 6 hours and it really feels like you are going to get nothing out of it. The only drop I have ever gotten that was good was a Voltaic Spear. That's out of 5000 hours of playing, since Prophecies.
I'd just love a bit more reward for my work, increased drop rates etc. Yes you can argue maybe everyone will have E blades and Voltaic Spears etc but they are all vanity items anyway, It's a bit late to care about it. I don't mean everytime you go to Underworld you get an Eblade, but it'd be nice for it to have a bit higher drop rate. It would make me feel like I'm getting a decent reward for what I'm doing. Currently when I think of doing a dungeon I think of getting 2 gemstones, which isn't worth the time.
Wheee long rants about stuff.

Haters argue that indeed more people will have the rare items and that they should stay rare...which doesn't really matter at this late stage. I'm not going to spend an hour completign a dungeon to get some crappy golds/onyx gems and think to myself oh well at least the system remaisn balanced. Balance is not one of GW strong parts, we shouldn't bother pretending it is.
Another question to answer is whether mass lewts make it more fun, if we don't find the game fun why don't we just move on? Simple answers really, yes and GTFO. Of course having nice drops makes the game a more pleasant experience, one that we want to stick with due to the fact that we've all sunk so many hours and so much effort building our accounts into fine form. We're not giving up, and would like improvements. Because frankly I'm not logging on just to spend it doing the same thing over and over and over until I finally amass enough purpel blobs to trade for a big purpel glowy item.

TBH, if you like grind wheels then go play Blizzard's rpgs.
Since there's no such wheel in GW the game ends sooner or later. No content update will ever satisfy you, if you don't have fun by just playing the game. Most of the past balance updates were released to refresh the experience, but not for the sake of balancing the game as the major factor.

July 8 added Battle for Lion's Arch and the predecessor quest. That looked like a pretty real update to me.

It will have been 4 months since the Mesmer skill update on the 21st.
Yeah, they're pretty low right now. I was honestly a little shocked to see that the map rotation had actually worked.....which is just sad, really.

*breaks free from the anet headquarters* dont fear folks! they are working on update..*gets zapped back into a cage* yeah that how alot of us in my allaince feels about this. it feels like we're in a filler content for this ever long running gw movie. i bet it will rain ectos before they give us skill updates or those things they said we would have. D: i wanna see new stuff in catha.

PvP gets boring when the meta is the same shit for months on end. I guess I can understand how it doesn't affect PvE much, but I honestly would prefer a skill update to new content in PvE any day of the week too.

Skill update is far more feasible.

We're more similar to paranoid schizophrenics, in the sense that we may cause ourselves pain, but we believe that it's someone else's fault (namely, Anet).
And what's so wrong with venting a little frustration? I mean, surely Anet knows that it's been 3 1/2 months since the skill update and 2 months since the last content update. And surely they know it frustrates us. We all get that, but like others have said earlier, sometimes we just need to get it out.
Nothing wrong with that.

whats the point of playing all this new content if you use the same skills all the time.
one of the draws of rpg games is the character development. imagine if you played wow, and the skills you received at lvl1 were all you were gonna get. would you still bother grinding up to lvl80?
most of this is moot though, because as stated as a previous poster: most people would rather just farm the same area over and over again.
edit: also, happy birfday dreamcast! (and no anet, thats not an excuse to take a day off)

I think the fact that we still show enough interest to complain means that we still care about GW1 to some degree. It would be an even sadder case if we abandoned GW totally.
Just remember Anet, every time we complain, its just our way of saying we love you!

wow. this sucks. if it took them a "month" do just this i hate to see how long it takes to actually do something for the game. like say halloween? xD

[edit for the chronically stupid]"What they worked on" and "what they released" are not the same thing.
Similarly, "venting frustration" and "saying they've made no progress for months" are not the same thing.

Well seeing as we haven't even had a preview or any information, we can't tell the difference. And by past experiences,we're probably right.

Best way to not be frustrated about updates? Don't hang around people who talk about being frustrated about updates.
Still Number One
It is pretty pathetic to see the same people come on here this time every month and complain about the exact same thing. The map rotation changes every single month at the exact same time (second Thursday). The fact that there are this many people who have still not figured that out is pathetic.
Just like the Mesmer update, this new Dervish update will have a preview before it comes out. If they haven't released a preview, there is no reason to assume that the update on the second Thursday after an mAT will be anything more than a map rotation change and maybe a bug fix or two.
They did not spend a month doing this update so those that said they did are rather dense. They probably spent a few days testing the bug fix and less than a day coming up with the map rotation and then put it into action on the exact same pattern that they have since the mAT's were implemented.
I can understand the disappointment with the lack of skill updates, but complaining about it every time a map rotation happens is just stupid.

Is there a rule which sais that people shouldent complain or moan about this every month, did I miss it? Its there perogative if they choose to do so. Nobody is forcing anyone to reply on this thread, if they want to throw a wobbly every month, let them do so. If you dont want to read about it then dont, simples.
Naturally people should be patient but thats not always the case and if people feel like venting and being all together annoyed then its up to them, also telling people thats its its stupid or a waste of time to vent is really like trying to stack marbles in a corner.

Anet doesn't make money from GW1 anymore so why should they spend time on updates since they don't gain anything from them? It's obvious that this game is dead and they're focusing on GW2 but with this attitude it will probably die even faster than GW1 died.

What I do know, is that I recently learned a lot more about the Test Krewe and the way things work and I have to admit that it's disheartening. I've heard from 4 TK people in the last 2 weeks who want to quit.
That's just ridiculous.

Where did you get the notes? The website has been down (at least I can't connect to it) for the last 2 days.
{edit} Nevermind, the players.guildwars.com site is having issues, but the main and the shortcut there to updates works.

Also, anyone who posts in this thread that isn't unhappy are either part of the Test Krewe reminding us not to complain or very, very, very optimistic GW players.
Costumes next month. If it doesn't happen, costumes were a waste of time to begin with.

how long was it from the time they announced the mesmer skill update preview to when the released the mesmer skill update? they havent even released dervish preliminary update notes yet. it could take 2 months or longer from the time they release the prelim. notes to when the skills actually change. is anyone honestly that excited for derv changes? is it really that hard at the lifecycle of this game to change 10-20 skills(PVP ONLY) for the derv and paragon? i can see for PvE where that would take a lot longer to balance.
i'm really kind of over caring at this point.

No, there isn't. Don't think I don't wish much of what people here say all the time, but I realize I have no control of the situation and try to make the best of what they give me. If a game can hold me for over five years it owes me nothing but a hardy thank you and see you in GW2, (not that I have quit GW1)
Armageddon
I just find it ironic that the 'Automated' content had the most updates
fr.aodhan
Very much so. There is a lot of potential inherent in the Dervish. The profession has evolved (or perhaps devolved) so that what were some compelling ideas fell by the wayside. For instance, we can become avatars of the gods, but after 90 seconds (at best) of being situationally useful, we spend 2 minutes without our elite unless we bring a PvE skill.
Do we have any indication that that's all they're doing? I'd be disappointed and a tad confused.
