Today's update gave storage panes a 50% off sale price in the store. Just a heads-up for all those who have posted saying they were waiting for a sale.
I'm maxed out on panes also. So I guess I'll just keep being strict with myself about hoarding things.

I just bought 3 of them to unlock the rest of my storage panes. The convenience is well worth it. I hope Anet makes a little cash off of this so they can afford to add some new content.
I'm all for microtransactions, IF it can help bring some flavor back into GW1.

I'm sorry but as happy as this makes some people, this won't be affecting the nonexistent skill balances/content updates in GW1. All this money will be going to GW2. They're just squeezing the game and its remaining population for all their worth before complete abandonment.

The main point brought up was that xunlai storage were twice as much per slot than getting a new character. By cutting the price of storage in half it makes it a better option. Still slightly more than a new character slot, but again all about convenience.
Your money, do as you like, and what fits your play style. I horde things in game so the extra storage with quick access between characters is great for me.

Just 7 days ago I broke down and purchased all four slots at full price. I hadn't done so all this time because I felt the price was always outrageous. But I broke down because I figured that if they hadn't lowered them by now, they never would (for fear of angering those who paid full price).
Guess I should have remembered how they didn't mind angering me when they sold the bonus mission pack that was supposed to be exclusive.
I can't believe this. I'm absolutely furious about this.
I expect I'll get very little pity, and alot more ridicule.. sigh...

If you use paypal you have to goto The NCsoft Store and order from there.
EDIT: You might not have to link your account if using paypal. Looking at the NCsoft store it says you will be given, "A serial code for account upgrade." Which you should be able to just add to your keycodes in game, much the same as when you added Factions/Nightfall/EotN/etc. I've never bought from the NCsoft store so maybe someone else can give a definitive answer on that.

Still not a good deal as the panes are pitifully small, we know, discount accounts and even character slots are still better but at least now the price is not absurridiculous, it's comparable. It should have been that from the beginning (possibly limiting to $10 per 2 panes so they wouldn't lose on transaction costs for people buying 1, then another 1).
As much criticism as I've been posting about them since they became available, I've just bought 2. They got my $10. They wouldn't have got any more money from me (on GW1) without this 'promotion', so it's a win for them.
But if it was the price from the beginning they would have got my $20 instead, but now I just can't justify spending more on a dying game I'm spending like 1/10th of time on than last year.
But I see no reason why shouldn't it become the price to stay. Every unit sold has close to no cost for them at this point (the main cost was the implementation)
