New Visions and Old Promises
Karate Jesus
I've been looking at the list GWW keeps of the "upcoming changes and features" and laughed a little when I realized that several of those promised/worked-on changes are over a year old.
Now granted many of the features/changes on that list were from Linsey and she no longer works on GW1, but how do you feel about a feature that was supposedly "worked on" for months never coming to fruition?
We have just been given a blog post similar in size to the massive Wiki posts Linsey used to make telling us about upcoming changes. Many of which were never honored.
I'm just curious as to how everyone feels about our ex-team lead's visions never being carried out and how that impacts your view of our new team lead's posts. Does it affect how much you trust his new posts? Does the fact that he hasn't actually added anything to the game yet scare you or excite you?
Thanks for responding

Untill I load up guildwars and it sais i have xMbs of new content to unzip and download and bla. I think they are nothing more then filthy liars bent on raising our expectations and fillings our cereal bowls with there p*ss.
With that said, I am in anticipation for this new content to come out and be apart of the world. I am excited to try new things, how ever I think GW (anet) is trying to shut those who bitch about pugs up with the whole 7 hero things and should realize that the longer you take to release an update the deader your game gets, the more people you take away from GW1 to focus on this "supposed" GW2 game the more deader your game gets, and deader isn't even a word.
Walk the walk and talk the talk only if you have some SOLID ACTUAL PHYSICAL EVIDENCE to back up your claims and failed blog posts. because think about it. "every four months you get new updates"....that lasted what...two rounds before being shot to h*ll?
every month was skill balances then it was every other month. now its what? when ever we feel like it? whats there excuse? "this inst wow, you don't pay so shut up and deal with it?" NO.
My thoughts.
Either put up or shut up.
These blog posts do nothing but heighten speculations of things that may never happen. or will but only when its too late for us to care, such as when GW 2 comes out.

I won't believe it until I see it. Although, I fully expect all of it to happen.
- Crisis in Cantha. May not be in the near future. Hell, maybe not till GW2 is even out.
- 7 heroes/Embark Beach. I can actually see this happening in the near future
- Halloween Updates. Well it's almost Halloween, not much else to say.

Tiebreaker, I might pick up GvG again if this tiebreaker shit got fixed. As a matter of fact, alot would have to change. Guild thiefs and shit would have to come back, cuz they were fun, and they made stuff like the catapult matter.
HA is completely shit. Hall of Heroes is the bottom shit dripping off of that shit. (Pardon my language) I have yet to see another game with such uncompetitive conditions getting labeled "PvP". Relic Run is so random, it's not even funny. Anyone who even comes close to claiming Relic Run is a good format should die under a rock. It's not fun, it's not competitive, it's downright luck. Cap Points: Poop because when there's 3 teams, the most passive team is always going to win. Cap Points promotes "below -the-radar-play", aka shit. As long as noone engages at you, and you don't engage at anyone (so as long as you do RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO all but fight for center) you'll win. Insane fun...
The rest has been promised, and now confirmed, so can't such much about that.
Lol at monthly maintainance update, and bi-monthly skill update. I gues whoever wrote those notes pooped himself.

I'll take what I get for free and pay for what I can to get more if I want it.
All these "new updates" are stuff we'd get for free so if Anet changes their mind on them or cannot produce them for free due to resources, then I see no reason to hate them for getting ahead of themselves.
Though I will say that I hate with a fiery passion anything that is made but unused for silly reasons (unimplemented or taken out content, I mean). The 2009 Halloween quests, Day of the Tengu and the Kryta Kurz/Lux quest chains are such situations.

Sort of building off of what Borat spoke of, it's a little concerning to me how little attention has been given to the PvP scene as of late. If saying that is going too far, then I don't think I'm in the wrong to at least say that most of the attention that has been put towards PvP lately has not been successful in making the PvP experience in general to be more enjoyable. While I'd like to see more done about this, I don't feel like the changes that are being thought of and pushed out are having the impact that they need to have.
Obviously, I can not comment on the GvG Tiebreaker changes, but I can say something about the new HoH map: it doesn't strike me as anything that will fix HA. People can say that the playerbase is the problem with elitism and stuff like that, but the way I see it, the format at its core just doesn't seem to work very well. Adding new maps or rotating in old ones isn't going to be a decent fix to the format, and until work is done on improving that much, a better scene isn't going to come to HA.
PvP is essentially eternal content once you get the recipe right. It might be a little bit harder to make work than producing a story for PvE and building content for it every time, but when it works, it will give players something that lasts and will only die off when the playerbase finally leaves as a whole.
When John Stumme talks to the Krewe, he seems really passionate and energetic about everything that he wants to have happen, and he has hinted at a lot of things for the future that I've seen asked for for years now. It's all great stuff, and I feel great hearing about it, but... we'll see, I guess. Linsey was fairly ambitious too.

I'm happy as long as we keep getting new stuff.
Be it free missions, something new on the store (as long as it is pay-once) or a change in some mechanic that changes the whole game.
He have been getting those. It's just slow, but things take time under the circumstances they are. The Live Team may be small compared with a full team of developers, but at least we are getting something, even if it's slow, and we are not paying fees for it!

Yeah I weirded out at that too.
Halloween will make up my mind. If they deliver with new content (even if it's relatively small) I'll start to believe. I want to believe. I believe in what they're intending to do. But if they can't deliver at Halloween I'll just wait until I see the update loading.

I get a little happy when I see what they planned, but when it takes months (years---if at all) to implement I feel like the townsfolk from the kid who cries wolf....
So as was said: until I see it, I wont believe it. (but will be happy if they do actually come thru and do it, though I have plenty of faith that the time table they have envisioned is more along the 'monthly updates' one which happened what every 3-6 months???)

It's only recently that game updates have begun to reflect where the population is (PvE)... which only reinforces where the population goes, but you got to go with success. Seriously you can't even get games in Alliance Battles half the time anymore, I don't see how we can expect Halls to come back to life when even the casual formats are failing.
Best thing that can be done is to cut the modes in half, replace zcombat with permanent decent rewards (including ones with pve market value), and put some effort into making the *most popular* format, RA, more enjoyable. Mild things like changing HoH maps or even the gvg tiebreaker is just not going to matter to enough people at this point.

Not going to happen, and some of it is so radical that's a good thing.

Like most others, I'm not holding my breath. Once I log on and everything's a buzz with it, then I'll be more enthused.
On a side note...like someone else noted...Why the changes to GvG vs other more popular PvP formats?

I'll be happy with what I get.
Anet has already given me a great game to play and I have enjoyed it over the years. Whether or not they keep to their word or end up not releasing certain content doesn't bother me one bit.
I am just happy that I got to experience the game and enjoy it with friends and family. I look forward to what GW2 has to offer and whatever content they decide to add to GW1 during that time.

There is nothing that I can see to suggest that a build allowing 7heros(one of the big topics regarding this blog) will be released, this week, this month, this year even? Anet staff have had foot in mouth syndrome before remember.
But if/when it happens it will be great for a while until guilds and alliances diaband because everyone is doing things on their own. The options progressed from henchmen/humans to heros/hench nobody needs to party with anyone now with 3 hero slots, nevermind with 7...
That probably means we won't see any of it

I'm pretty much at the point that I don't believe anything they say anymore, until they deliver. Every time I hear new big promises, my reaction is always the same: "Yeah right, like that's ever going to happen in the next 1-2 years."
Also:
Quoted for Truth. I'm extremely frustrated that the WiK quests are non-repeatable. PvE Content with zero replay value is almost worthless. I really dislike the fact that John Stumme didn't say anything about this in his blog post. I had some hopes, since I wrote it down as feedback in the survey, but hey... again, the case with seems to be, don't get your hopes up, or you'll only end up disappointed.

It might just be that my mind has blackout moments, but I don't recall too many situations where they made a big announcement and didn't deliver. Of course, there are a few planned stuff that Linsey was talking about on her wiki talk page which haven't been realized, but the recent blog post is a much heavier way to announce new stuff. I can't really imagine it being empty promises, although I'm sure some of you will tell me I'm in for a big surprise. I guess there's not much to do either way, just wait and see.

We dont pay any suscription fees, so not getting regular updates is fine by me.
HOWEVER.... People promising me stuff like monthly updates, bi-monthly skill updates etc, and then not doing it pisses me off. Feels like we are getting lied to by anet.
tl;dr: No new content is fine but if you promise stuff youd better come through

My laptop is broken now and i'm using an old PC which doesn't support GW, so i can do everything i need except GW'ing. I have to say that i'm looking to buy a new PC to be able to play again, but i'm very relaxed on it, there doesn't seem to be anything to hurry for (since GW is almost the only computer game i play) , and i think i've got a lot of time to decide which computer to buy, before amazing new content arrives.

I'm in a similar vein to this, any new content is fine, however little - as I'm not paying for it!
But I don't like how Anet has a habit of promising a deadline then pushing it back, simply because it gets my hopes up and then dashes them 'pon a rock.

6 months later still no update....great -.-'

No, im fine with no updates...its the broken promises of updates/content etc which they dont come through with that pisses me off (Anet not sticking to their word if you will, getting the community worked up over nothing, etc)

I thought the jovial nature of my post would give over more of a "miffed" air than "angry" - and its not like I set times in my head and am disappointed when Anet don't reach them, but I do find myself :/ing when they say "update coming this thursday" and it doesn't happen for another 3 weeks.

Always love it when people bring in the "No monthly fee" arguement whenever the discussion is evolving around new content and ANet's lack of interest and devotion.
People, when you look at your original Guild War box, it doesn't say:
NO MONTHLY FEES AND NO FORM OF SUPPORT, NEW CONTENT OR UPDATES WHATSOEVER
No, it simply says "No monthly fees". The intire point of this marketing strategy was to create a MMO (which naturally requires maintainance) to lure in people who don' want to pay monthly fees, yet give them the same quality of content (updates) as any other game.
As a matter of fact, I can dig deep, and find numerous statements from Anet where they said they would keep updating the game, despite there not being monthly fees. Again, this was the INTIRE point of their marketing strategy.
The fact that we pay no monthly fees doesn't mean that we don't have the right to moan or bitch, cuz we do. We bought a game that got marketted as having updates, being active and fresh, and the fact that it had no monthly fees was he push-over for many people to buy it in the first place.
If Anet can't handle the responsibility, that's their problem, but they sadled themselves with the problem. If they can't handle sticking to their own words or marketing strategy, they should've never released it that way in the first place.
So untill I get a formal apology from Anet in which they state they're sorry for lying to me, drawing me in with false statements and eventually making me buy Guild Wars based on false values, I'dd also expect a refund (Not even starting on the fact how my first acount got banned despite me having proven to them I didn't break any rules) of 120 euros.
I know that won't happen, and I don't want it to. But untill it does, I'll keep bitching as much as I want, cuz this is what's been promised to me when I bought Guild Wars.

I really don't care about most of the updates anymore. That's why stuff like 7 heroes/GWB/Embark Beach is what they should have been worried about all along, because the general audience really is over this game, but enhancements can bring them back a little bit. This game is pretty much out to pasture and needs big shots in the butt like those.
RedStar
Some people need to actually realize that this game is more than 5 years old...and a marketing strategy, is like you said a marketing strategy just like so many games promise they are going to last more than XX hours yet you totally finish it all in less than 20.
Though luck if you recently bought Guild Wars and expected updates ever weeks or so like in the beginning.
Sure it's kind of normal to complain if they said they were going to do something and a year later, still nothing, but spamming every updates threads (or every thread somehow related to it) with QQs is more than bitchy.

Oh, and I agree with everyone here (especially Shayne) who have said that PvP needs some love. It's been a loooooong time, and the format can sustain itself once it's been properly updated.
