Economy changes due to HoM
Iuris
How about we try a new topic for a change: economy. I think things have changed a bit ever since HoM has been clarified for us.
My personal observations:
-crafting material prices have gone up: I sold a lot of those to buy Zkeys, and was quite happy to note that prices were quite high. Especially granite, onyx, diamonds, ectoplasm, obsidian, rubies, sapphires.
-miniature pet prices: skyrocketing. You get one pet per year per character, and 50 are needed to max out the HoM. Pets that used to be given away are now 5k. Auction prices are rising.
-general inflation: well, even the above should suffice. But generally prices seem to be rising.
Any additional observations? Predictions for the future?

Zkeys sell quickly for 5k now, if not more.
Strangely, ectos has not been affected (even with obsidian armor for HoM). It's probably just too expensive for the average player.

The ruby and sapphyres comes from 5 to 13k !!!

I also noticed that the prices for Diessa Chalices and Golden Rin Relics went up as well. There doesn't seem to be much of them in supply so I'm guessing that's the reason why it is high right now despite it not being related to HoM.
Chalices used to be around 2k or something and relics at 3k.
Sold some chalices and relics for 5k ea.
Like OP said though, it might just be general inflation though cause I have no idea how the HoM update would raise the prices for these items. If anything, they should've gone down...

Hmm it could also be that relics and chalices are getting more rare, because of the main player base focussing on the HoM and not doing dungeons like many of them used to.. Just my guess =]

Rare and asian pets goes down soooo fast!

Working with Fisher's Equation of exchange, it's reasonable to assume that the general price influx was caused by people taking their saved capital (ecto, zkeys, and just pure cash) out of storage and bringing them to the market. I'd say there's definitely no scarcity as of now in terms of minipets, so after the initial surge, as long as people are steadily filling their HoM with items by spending their cash reserves, prices will climb steadily. I don't see minipet supplies drying up too soon, so in my opinion there's little chance of them actually skyrocketing again after the boom is over.
With more people bringing their ecto and zkeys to the market, you'd say that prices of those items would drop. The opposite is happening, because of the need of these goods in various HoM statues (Mostly Zaishen Title, but also Obsidian Armor). This results in a rather stable price for both ecto and zkeys, with ecto even climbing a little bit by my observations, unlike ordinary gold, which is dropping.
My prediction is that prices for HoM-goods will continue to climb steadily of the next period (let's say, 1-3 months). After that, the market will probably settle again. Ecto will probably continue to rise for a bit, after which it will stabilize or even drop a bit, to it's former value. If you're planning on spending in order to fill your HoM soon, I'd recommend converting your cash into ecto now. If you want a more stable good to convert your gold into, go for Zkeys.
Other than that, if you're not in a rush and just looking to fill your HoM in the cheapest way possible, just wait it out and do it when prices have calmed down again.

@ Op Oppressors weapons have doubled / tripled in price , same with destroyer (due to mats) but armbraces are more or less the same price as they have been for last few months (prolly a result of dwg / frostway)

Yes, why people has to spend for the arms when they can full their hom with opressors? I have 3 opressors on gallery cause i dont want spend on arms

'm of the belief that a lot of people have been sitting on large lumps of cash in anticipation of the HoM details. Now that it is known what gives benefits and how much those benefits go for, those people who had been hoarding cash dumped it all on the market at once to get everything they wanted for their HoM. Because so much money is moving around and people have so much of it to move, prices have risen significantly.
I'm not seeing those prices going back to pre-HoM-Calculator any time soon. Hell, any info that ANet puts out about GW2 is going to potentially reel in more people to GW2, creating a higher demand for HoM items, keeping the prices sitting high.

I'm not an expert on GW2 info, but I remember hearing on the Guru Mumble the other day that Anet pushed out most of their upcoming GW2 information before their latest games convention or whatever, so I wouldn't count on substantial info being released in the near future (in the next 1-2 months).

They've been going every six weeks about with large announcements; the HoM calculator game right at when another profession should have been released, judging by previous profession announcements.
So if they stick to that pattern, we should have something new in the next few weeks, since it's been a month since the HoM calculator was released.
Yes, I'm definitely glad that I got that last year. My guild leader bought his Vabbian literally a week or two before the HoM calculator came out, just barely missing the skyrocketing prices. Anyone who wants it now is going to spend over 400k for the rubies and sapphires alone (they were 13k each the other day at the trader).

I have noticed a big price drop in Voltaic Spears. Don't know why...:P

and due to cons and destroyer weapons, granite slabs are selling for 400g for 10 at the material trader. time to go farm hulking stone elemental / stone kirins
FengShuiDove
How 'bout them hero armor pieces? I bought 8-10 Cloths of the Brotherhood a while back for 1k per and forgot about 'em on a mule until the update. Sure am glad I kept 'em, or else I would have been out 40-80k.
For the first time ever, I'm reconsidering farming Remains of Sahlasdfja;lsdf!adas, since I found an efficient way to do it back when I was cartographing, and now those remnants are worth an easy 8k per.
How much are the limited edition rare/Asian minis now? I'm curious to see a price comparison before and after the announcement.

AFAIK the price of ZKeys at ~5k is quite stable for the past few months and, oddly enough, wasn't really affected by the HoM update.
Same goes for ectos - their value increased with the nerfs of 600/smite and SF, but not because of HoM. Guess not enough people decided to get 105e for obby out of a sudden to influent the stability of price.
As ectos aren't affected, armbraces are still steady at ~20e, although it was much easier to get one for 18e before the update and arms are now more often sold for ~22e. Still, it's not THAT big change.
Unded Raptor: 5k -> 30~35k
Destro weaps: 20~25k -> 70~90k - that's the biggest change apart of white minis, i think.
Generally, agreed with Meridon's predictions on the market, but not ectos - their value in gold balances on quite a steady level, with low amplitudes, as ecto - and armbraces - are commonly used currency, not to mention they're still farmed and supplied quite steadily.
I'd expect the minipets to rise in price up till Wintersday's finale, then slowly start to drop.
If you have a second account, it's faster and easier to farm Glint's for gold.

No mention of sweets / party / alcohol?
They are certainly in demand, but the glut from Halloween has lowered prices. I don't think they'll go back up until after the holidays. Thanksgiving and Wintersday drops/rewards will replenish supplies, then the market will creep back up until the next holiday.

You got offers of Zkeys for 5k? When I was buying them, there was no way I'd get them at that (low) price...
BrettM
Agreed. It's very hard to find z-keys at 5k now. Those selling larger quantities want 6k, up from 5.5k not long ago. The trade window in GToB is full of WTB at 5k and WTS at 6k. (Plus a few still trying to buy at 4.8k. Don't they look at the trade window? Who do they expect to sell to them when there are 50 buyers indicating that they will pay more?) If you want them at 5k, you'll be buying them one or two at a time and standing there for hours to accumulate 20 of them.
Skye Marin
People who once had 500k in their storage are now spending it all to fill their HoM, which adds previously inactive cash to the economy, and then removes it. Prices for in-demand items will rise because of the demand for them, however, all other prices will go down.
This is not because of inflation, but because of deflation. Because Gold is being spent and removed from the economy (mostly from material traders and crafters) the value of gold is rising. Ecto will remain uneffected, and the prices of all things non-HoM will drop.
In short, everything related to the HoM will go up, and everything not will go down.
Note that Zkeys are HoM-related now too, so the price will go up. Because Ecto is used as a mid-currency, the price is more stable because those who are able to afford Obsidian armor already have the materials, which means they won't have to trade with the trader to get them, meaning the price remains roughly the same. This is proven because the price of Ecto is about the same, but Obsidian Shards have definitely gone up.

I'm not sure of the economic effects, but people buying lots of new armor is essentially a big gold sink for the game as people buy materials from traders, dye, runes and of course the cost of the expensive armor itself. (Skye posted the same thing 2 minutes before me......).

If you guys are all worried about the price of Z-Keys going up, just wait until Wintersday hits.

How will wintersday affect the amount of z-keys?

Do you think asian minis will go back up?
Obviously they took a huge plummet but seemed to have somewhat stabilized and bottomed-out. I don't think they will go down any further, but unsure if they will go up.
Only interested in comments from people who have been experienced in the asian mini market please.

My guess that most higher end items like Voltiac Spears have taken a hit. People are scrambling for destroyer weapons since they are the cheapest and fastest to buy. Diamonds oynx have jumped in price iron and granite are in higher demand.

it wouldnt be so bad if so many people didnt inflate the economy on purpose.
if people only bought what they intended to use, then it really wouldnt be so bad.
and if you disagree your just wrong and need to change your diapers..

I don't think the economy gives us a very clear picture of what's going on. There are direct signs of price changes for gems, hero armors and mini pets. The other changes are due to people off-loading personal wealth to acquire things for their HoM. The chaos of non-HoM items hitting the market is a by-product of the general frenzy affecting GW. I think that those items are what's causing all the confusion in the market. People are willing to pay more for things thinking that inflation has caused it.
JONO51
Combination of factors really.
Theres many who havent played for a year or two but still kept their cash and ectos. They come back and start buying just wanting to be done with it. So there more buying power out there now.
Some who have their voltaics and asians have found that they still need 20 minis, vabbian, zaishen etc, so are selling stuff to afford it.
People are generally willing to pay more.
For minis, I'd imagine the price of the later/rarer ones will level off or fall a bit at christmas. There'll be more who got the game at christmas and dont have all their minis than those that do, so they'll take advantage of the higher prices so they can afford more cheaper ones. For those that get whites/earlier minis, they'll probably keep them so they will still go up for a little while i think.

Whats the going price for Oppressor weapons now? 100k?
Those have gone up.
The mini prices have stabilized somewhat. No more selling Koss for 30k.
Hell, I can't even find a buyer for Oola....
LOL, while I'm sure there are speculators out there, I'm not sure they have as big a impact on the economy as you think.
I mean, most prices are stable: Ectos have been @ 7k forever now, Shards have been @ 4k for the last two weeks at least.
Of course Sapphires and Rubies are through the roof: they are relatively rare (no speed clears for them), and demand is still high (Vabbian armor was never as popular as FoW armor was).
That said: Vabbian is still cheaper than FoW by a mile. And the prices can only go down, as demand goes down and supplies of Rubies and Sapphires slowly increase.

I've been trying to buy zkeys @ 5k/ea for a few days now without much luck. It'd probably be quicker for me to acquire them through Fort Aspenwood Kurzick PvP at this rate; it's pretty abysmal. I'm about to give up and actually do work for the rest
I've noticed people trying to manipulate the market...keys are going up while ectos are going down, albeit slowly.

As for ZKeys... weird things i hear. I haven't bought a single key for a few months, not sold as well, but saw quite a bunch of 'WTS xx ZKey 5k each' offers in GToB and Kama (obviously not d1).

Yep, I imagine this has a lot to do with it. I came back after a 2 year break and put 2 or 3 million gold back into the economy, lots of others probably did. A lot of people I know had been hoarding for a rainy day and finding they only had 10 to 20 points in their HoM went on buying sprees.
Gennadios
Ectos have actually been fluctuating widely over the weekend, they'd just from 6.5 in the morning to 7.5 - 8 in the eve.
I'm pretty sure that there are significantly more ectos floating around than everyone with a reasonable chance of getting Obby armor will ever need.
The markets are getting flooded with the stuff and then it takes about a day for enough people to buy them out of circulation for the prices to go back up.
Regarding the blindfolds/dreak masks, the prices are definitely climbing. The day that I came out of retirement over the HoM I sold a set of each for around 125zkeys total.

Good to know mini prices skyrocketed becos of HoM.
I think i spend like 100k on 10 first and second year whites and purple to get to the 20 mini amount for HoM
If managable, can some veterans farm Deldrimor armor, please please
Noticed high(er) demand, few players selling.
And i wanna buy a few meself.

I noticed that more expensive birthday mini's aren't selling that well either. You can fill to 50 without ever touching a 5th year mini. I was trying to sell a M.O.X. last week and couldn't get any interest in it (sold for a lower price of 65 ecto).
