I think I'm in agreement with Jazilla. Seems a bit weird that they would have this exclusive interview and already know all about Wintersday 2010, when the GW site itself has no information yet.

And then post a link to GW, that doesn't even exist. Seems sketchy to me, but we'll wait and see.

Edit: If indeed it is true, can't wait to see Melandru and Balthazar costumes!

Haha i was pretty sure we were getting their outfits this year, which maybe confirms what we get next year

I'm also glad that confirms there will be some new quests, wonder what the replacment for wintersday cheer will be?

Let the haters hate about costumes , i personally dont think this should effect the rest of the content.

edit:: Maybe theyre just updating the main gw site now, and ofcourse the people at that site had their own deadline and probably couldn't wait to post the information. Seems Anet have just updated the log in announcment to include the usual offers of 50% off, in this case EOTN and they heavily mention buyin it for the HOM

I cant find the quote, but it has been said that some others besides Dwayna and Grenth are getting involved in Wintersday this year. It wasnt clear if they meant other gods or not. But it would be neat to eventually have costumes representing all the gods. I'll believe it when I see it though.

It's not an exclusive, they are just a little early.

The official site probably won't be updated until tomorrow when the event goes live.

That explains a lot. I recall seeing that artwork among others, with the Dwayna and Grenth ones. These costumes have probably been in the pipeline for awhile.

On a slightly related note... they mentioned trying to get the Dervish update out before the year is up. And yet with Wintersday, I don't see that happening. I don't want to be "that guy" but what gives? 7 months not good enough Anet?

I think the concept art makes it pretty clear. Balthazar is in furs for winter, Melandru is wearing a loose spring wrappings. Plus Melandru always had a better claim on spring than Dwyana.

And standing around and yelling at people to jump on their rings is the only thing the gods ever do during wintersday, so yeah, Kormir would be in her element.

Hey Regina, if I may ask, why don't you guys announce Wintersday till the last moment like this? I guess we are just to assume it's the "same time each year"? I'm always finding myself, in early December, looking to find what specific dates it will run. And it seems like the last couple of years it didn't get announced until the very last moment.

So tired of hearing in every thread that involves an update, you complaining about the Dervish update. If you actually read the interviews, you would know that it has been on hold this entire time. Everytime you or someone complains about the Dervish update, someone always tells you this:

Interesting, oh well.. ot paying for another costume.. no matter how awsome.. 1 costume set is good enough lol.

On a side note...(and i semi read update notes so don't kill me spyder) i thought(i may be wrong) but didn't they say that embarkment beach would be before wintersday.. and along with embarkment beach would be 7heros... but w/e.. we'll get those (hopefully) before GW2.

Yet costume brawl has long been over, its mid-December, and there was previous mention that the aim was to get the Dervish update out before the end of the year. It's been nearly seven months and I feel that it's completely fair to bring this question up AGAIN.

In all fairness technically the actual day of Wintersday is around 1st january so give them a little time

"After these two consecutive updates to GvG, we are planning to take a short break from targeted updates and focus our balance efforts on the new Dervish skills. We don't expect these changes to have any major negative impact on the metagame, but we will continue to monitor the situation and act as needed."

Although, will it be Balth for males and Mel for females? Cus Balth looks awful. No offense mate!

Excited about Wintersday this year, its the first year where there aren't really any other titles which I need to grind out and I can focus fully on getting drunkard, part and sweet tooth all wrapped up (see what I did there? wrapped up? no? fine).

I have to say though, I am not a HUGE fan of the costumes. I recognise that ANet need to continue to make money from this game, but I'm sure there are other ways to do this other than costumes. I love the way they look, but you can only wear one at a time after all!

Oh I understand that. I mean it seems like you guys don't announce upcoming special events in the same way you used to, giving specific dates as an announcement a couple weeks (ish) ahead of the event, on the GW homepage (and other places). They seem to just happen, these days.

I realize these events fall pretty much on the same days each year but I miss having a more heads up on the specific dates ahead of time. I was curious if there was a reason that didn't happen anymore. I assume it's just because they are assumed to be about the same time each year.

I was just curious. Didn't you guys used to make more formal announcements about them ahead of time?

This thread makes me just a little bit sad.

I'm new to GW, my account isn't even 60 days old. This will be my first Wintersday, and I'm just flat-out super excited about it. I've been looking forward to this ever since I understood what these festivals are... I was just coming out of pre-searing when Halloween rolled around, so other than picking up ToT drops I wasn't able to participate in that.

Everything I've read about Wintersdays past entices me... the added quests, the contests, the festival hats, the collector rewards. It all just sounds like so much fun. I'm hoping to tame a Jingle pet, even though I rarely take a pet with me anywhere. I'm geeked about the potential for some new costumes... I have the Shining Blade one... I don't like most of the elementalist armors, so costumes are kind of a big deal "oooooooo shiny!!!" to me. I'm looking forward to running all over the GW universe and checking out the decorations. I'm a 40 year old rural midwestern housewife, and I'm utterly stoked about this little holiday event!

So from my perspective... reading this thread makes me just a little bit sad. Mostly because I wish my fellow players felt that little-kid-excitement I've got pumping through my veins right now. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning, checking the Wiki, Guru, the GW website, etc. every few hours for any little taste of information about WHEN Wintersday is going to start and what kind of awesomeness it's going to offer!

I wish you could all feel like that, instead of being focused on what's missing, or what's not done yet, or what's not done right, or what's not to your liking...

It's the holidays, in some form, in some fashion, for most of the world - in-game and without. Embrace that... get excited... find your inner-little-kid-excitement and run with it.

Especially here... it's a GAME... and a chance to let your inner-kid run crazy.
