I was thinking about this a little bit ago... I'm working on my cartographer title in conjunction with vanquishing (NF & Proph), and I'm having a lot of fun doing this. I'm watching my Sweet Tooth/Party points growing a little at a time, mostly from DP removal, giving myself morale boosts and goofing off with mysterious tonics in town once in a while. I'm making sure I do the bonuses and such for my Protector titles (have NF & Proph so far).

Basically, the same sorts of things many people are doing.

But I can remember when I first joined GW in October, and I remember how "pointless" I thought these things were. "I'm not ever going to try for THAT title... or any other... waste of time."

Yes, I would like a side of humility with my crow, please.

Survivor? Are you nuts??

Uber expensive armor? Puhhhlleeaasssee... what do I need that for?

Tormented weapons? They're UGLY! I won't want those!

ID a few thousand gold weapons? Hah! What a waste!

Mini-pets? Sure they're cute, but they don't DO anything... waste of money!

Yeah. *sighs*

So what about you? Do you find yourself interested in things you previously dismissed, much to your surprise? Are there things you thought would NEVER interest you or be a priority for you that you now are borderline obsessed with achieving/obtaining? Did you once scoff at people collecting q9 swords and now jealously guard your collection of blueberry daggers?

What is your serving of crow marinated in?

I didn't want to VQ. I still don't want to VQ, but I did Elona + cantha, still working on Tyria when bored (henches suck in Tyria). Nothing changed there, since Hard mode on an ele is painful unless you run AP + PvE skills.

I didn't want to do cartography but having been at 98% for a long long time I figured what the hell, loaded up Cartography made easy and scraped a bit.

I did get the party animal title to 9,999 even though I never thought it was a good use of gold. Cost about 200-300K since SD during Wintersday with my necro covered most of it. It's just that originally I had planned for all 20 armor sets but have no room to put it (80 inventory slots is a lot to blow).

I had blown tons of money on minis before HOM so when it came out I only had to buy 2 or 3. Even though I hit 50, I still buy minis because I can and I refuse to pay 100K+ectos for weapons that have the same stats as collector weapons. If it's vanity, might as well put it in something vain right?

In general everything since EoTN has made me much more cynical because I prided on playing a skill>time spent game and all the reputation tracks and cons are definitely not that.

I have Lucky and Unlucky 0 because I sat on rings for about 1 hour total in 5 years. I suspect this year it will be different since the HoM only needs rank 2, but only if breaking lockpicks over this weekend doesn't get me rank 2.

The only thing that ever changed was the HoM calculator giving people things to tick off, honestly.

My guild is just me and the leader and he wasn't up for titles and neither was I.
After boredom I started to solo some titles and he didn't like that at all, me showing them off that is
So finally he joined in and we both have 28 atm and working casually for 30.
And despite our initial thought we really did have a lot of fun doing them all.
Except cartho which I had to do on his account because he couldn't run texmod on his computer >

I think a lot of my changes have been due to updates in both content and builds. As much hate as Discordway gets on forums, I would have never considered VQing until I used it. The introduction of Z-quests made Protector Titles achievable with only moderate difficulty for the general public for the first time.
HoM gave us new targets to shoot for, getting a lot of people into PvP who had previously shunned it (not always a pleasant experience).
Increasing Faction rewards made the previously abandoned JQ and rarely populated FA very active again.

I don't think I'll ever get around to maxxing out more than 15 titles, but I find myself working more and more towards even those I will not reach. I get drunk at festivals now, where I never bothered before. I'm also going after party animal with renewed vigor.

I disagree with the poster on cartography. There is nothing worse than going to BFE to scrape .05% of the map.

Not implying that this was part of your message, BUT, Eye of the North pretty much changed everything for me from an attitude standpoint. Looking back, I suddenly realized that I hadn't really done that much over the past 4 -5 years of playing.

The plus side to that attitude change is that I'm really rediscovering some of that early excitement I experienced when I first started playing. Even now reading back over your post I'm realizing how much I still haven't done. so yeah, overall I'd say that I'm with you on this. Good post.

I have always been a goal orientated person...so when titles were added...yep, something my will had to do--and still working on them, however; I DONT pay for them (I got all the alcohol from either nic, special weekends or I did trade some party points for some)...I didnt buy any sweet or party points either. So yeah, it has taken me a bit longer to finish them (did finish drunkard, party and sweets on one character and even had enough party to almost finish a second!).

so the only thing that has really changed is the fact that there are more titles to finish than I had when they first came out

As of right now, I have amassed about 3200 minutes worth of Drunkard items prepared to sell them the next time a "Double Drunkard Weekend or Event" occurs. I don't have the Drunkard title nor did I ever plan to actually go for it. Right now, I may find myself getting it anyways.

Also, I've noticed more people bring Vampirism than any of the Asura Summon skills, if they do so.

When Hard Mode was first released, I started with Great Northern Wall, then Fort Ranik, where my team repeatedly died to the first team of Charr packing Power Block. I decided right then and there that Hard Mode was just beyond me. Eventually I changed my mind.

Similar experience based on PUGing DoA immediately post-release.

There was a time long ago that I thought Mending was a great wammo skill. (Then again, so did Ensign...)

I swore up one side and down the other that the only minis I'd ever get would be the ones that popped out of my own birthday gifts. HoM Calculator changed all that. Only approaching my second birthday, with a lot of duplicate First Years, I realized I probably won't have enough birthdays before GW2 comes out to even scratch the surface of my Devotion monument. I think I've sunk about 150k into minis just over the past month.

This. HOM didn't change it...actually coming across some that I really liked did. Royal gift harem, MOX, Mallyx, Yak...pretty much all entered my radar and I decided what the heck? Bought the harem, mallyx, a Marley to complete the harem, and a dedicated MOX because it's truly unique. Yak I got from a traveler's gift and although I've tried to sell it many times, nobody would buy. So I'm pretty much stuck with it.

I thought I'd never do the drunkard title, or work hard enough to get GWAMM on the warrior...but losing a job for a year tends to change things up a bit. I found myself actually having the time to play GW, and why not finish these titles while I'm at it?

Also thought that after the Dhumm update that my UW days were over, but I recently joined a guild/alliance that does it pretty regularly and doesn't have the elitism that pugs do. So I've been in there quite a bit too.

I'll say one misconception I had was that people with GWAMM put as much work and effort into it as I did. I was very wrong. There really is no need for skill in gaining GWAMM, just patience. Same for 50/50 and the mid level hero titles.

I've largely stuck to my guns. I never thought I'd go for Cartographer, but I caved and decided I would at least do Tyrian because my nostalgia bug. I still refuse Elona and Cantha.

I also never thought I'd do Guardian, but had racked up enough m+b that it only took the Zaishen rotations to get me interested enough to finish it. And now...

Hero parties might change my mind about VQ...but I'll probably just do them for fun. I have my 30/50, everything I do from now out is just for fun.

About to have my 3rd anniversary here and not much has changed for me.

I still think LDoA is utterly retarded. Survivor I have interest in, but my way. I refuse to ever do that Kilroy thing.. so I tend to lose them somewhere in r2.

I still refuse to play pokemon or pacman. Didn't buy this to play nostalgiaville mini game crap. My Elonian Cartagrapher will remain at 98% forever.

Ugly is eternal.. therefore most of the high value weapons and anything made with Ectos are as undesirable to me as the first day I saw them.

I have 30+ HOM pts.. and have never done any of the endgame areas.. and still have no interest. After 5+ years in EQ2 I just don't have any interest in camping dungeons. I do the manditory missions in them..that is enough.

The only thing I have changed my mind on is my Black Widow and moss spider pets.. they were all I needed to have all pets unlocked.. but that doesn't mean I use the disgusting things.

OH.. and I did make a necro. Costumes able to cover their abysmal armor choices made that possible.

but yes i have come to the realization that doing those "meaningless" things like trying to get titles, make a r3 survivor for once, VQ, etc are what makes the game even more interesting. originally it was about beating a game, now its about looking cool while doing it

I've been at the realization for a while now that I've been done with this game, but never really made any effort to relieve myself of all of the wealth that I've acquired that now has become unnecessary.

Only just a week or two ago did I finally open up my storage and dump loads of stuff onto unsuspecting persons in Shing Jea, in addition to passing my unded greased over to a guildmate of mine.

Yes. I've said things like that too. But once you accumulate some money or get access to it, it's inevitable. I didn't get my first set of elite armor until at least a year after i started. I made a ton of money and said, what the heck I have the cash and access to it, lets do it.

At first i basically played this game to powertrade. Eventually i got tired of it and started to play the actual game. (After 4 years of playing i finally beat factions last year lol.)

So i started to go for titles naturally and thought that vanquishing would take forever and would suck. But after joining a guild and doing the random vanquish here and there, i only have 15 total left to do so thats nice.

Pretty much im only playing to get 50/50 in the HoM and every vanquish/HM mission i do now just gets me angry when i die or it takes 30 minutes to find the last guy.

So now its pretty much me trying to get to 50/50 before i break my computer and before gw2 comes out although i probably wont have any time constraint with the latter.

I suppose my attitude has changed a little.

I never wanted pointless titles and any titles I wanted to go for were for role playing reasons.

I planned my ranger as an explorer so wanted cartographer on her.
I planned my ritualist as a hopeless drunk but decided the time factor was a little too much so abandoned it.
Never wanted elite armour.

When they revealed just what material rewards we could get for achieving 30 points in the HOM my attitude changed.
Now I have 29 points and when I pick up the kurzic armour I will have 30 and be happy.

I have 5 titles in all and that is it so far as I am concerned.
If they offer more material rewards I will reconsider.

After getting 26 max titles I figured that was that and I'd never reached 30 as how could I possibly make the money to pay for the 3 Cons titles as well as the time commitment for IAH AND r12 Luxon? I now have 10,000 Sweet points, 9,999 Party, 9,997 Drunk minutes and I'm slowly working my way to Savior. I just can't wait to finally get my GWAMM after having previously completely given up on it.

There were many things that I never thought I'd do after a few months of play: LDoA, Survivor, Cartographer, Drunkard, buying minis (waste of inventory space, scarce already), elite armors and fancy weapons.

But getting closer to GWAMM, changed my perspective: slowly I had to accomplish Legendary Cartographer and maxing Drunkard got me GWAMM

Furthermore, the HoM Calculator "forced" me to buy minis, elite armors and weapons (which I'll never use, of course), with the self-declared goal to reach 50/50.

I still think I'll never try for LDoA or Survivor. Or create an assassin character... but never say never.

I never wanted to Buy ded pets before the HoM update now ded are the only ones i buy.

Also i never wanted to make a warrior(minions do better work most of the time) but i made one for the eagle HoM armor. I had the material in her bag and could buy it if GW2 came out but had 50/50 so no armor for my war.

Wanted to do LDoA but see no use for that anymore. It will never happen but i always hope for a daily or weekly q that offers a small amount xp in pre and costumes in pre... Just let me dream^^

I completely know what you're talking about. I bought my necro an elite armor 4 years after she was created. And I've started vanquishing Elona recently. I always thought it will be awfully boring, but I'm doing it with a few friends and we're having so much fun. The HoM calculator pretty much pointed me in the direction of things I never bothered to do (like elite areas and stuff) and that I ended up enjoying a lot.

Dont mind doing proph again for guardian on another char. It's quite easy to get, what I am not looking forward to(and still havent done it) to vanquish prophecies. All other continents are done but I have no idea I will ever continue there.

As a lot of people here, i've never even consider to start saving for very expensive armors like obby kurzick or vabbi...and now i'm slowly building up amber obsi and gems. Same for hero armor upgrades and minis.

Achieve GWAMM was my aim since beginning, but i have to say that i shouldn't never started party and sweet without the new SD.

Also after the Mesmer buff, i deleted and rerolled mine that i was ignoring, he was only taking dust and do as storage...and now i really love play it.

Nah. I never change my mind. It's not because me being stubborn, but because the game always changes before that happens, so I don't have to change my mind.
If I think something is fun, I'll do it. If I don't think something is fun, I won't.
It's a game, after all, it must feel fun, not a chore.

For example, I never really liked playing mesmers, spirit ritualists or hammer warriors in PvE, so I didn't...
...until they changed them, I tried them again, and it was much more fun, so I started playing again with them.

You could say that all things come to those who wait!

Well, it has some disadvantages too, for example, I didn't like Hero's Battles, because it soon became lame and boring, and RR was even more lame and boring, so I never went there. The result was that I didn't have any chance to get that title.
But I don't care much about titles, so it hasn't a great loss.

Nah, didn't really change. When the HoM calculator came out, I had 42 points and got up to 47 on day 1. The way I liked to play and collect things just aligned with the HoM's requirements. By the time I started playing, titles were already in the game, and I always thought they were a cool way of keeping progress.

-I got GWAMM a few days before the calculator came out
-I always loved collecting armor and I didn't consider characters "complete" until they had an elite set. And as long as I was buying a bunch of sets, I might as well go ahead and get one of each set. So now my HoM only lacks 5 sets, mostly the Prophecies elites and Silver Eagle (I never play my Warrior).
-I had gone on a mini binge after I completed my armor collecting and before finishing GWAMM (as a diversion, mostly ). I only needed a handful to fill it.
-I had a bunch of hero armors sitting around from a cheap purchase made ages ago. I'd have applied them earlier, but I just never thought they'd be necessary.
-My weapons monument was filled except for a handful, so I just dedicated the Torms I was already using.

However, I did decide to go for 30/50 on my secondary account, more just out of boredom than an attitude change.

I've always been in to fancy armor, weapons, minis and stuff, however i never rly bothered with bonuses, which i deeply regret now that i have to go back and do all the proph missions again.
When i first started playing GW like 1½ years ago, i, like most other ppl, didnt bother with "side stuff" like cartographer, and i expected it to stay that way. However it changed as soon as i started running out of quests, and somehow i found the world map to look rly ugly with all the fog covering most of it. So i started uncovering as much as i could, first doing factions, then NF and im now working on Proph along side getting my party animal, drunkard and sweet tooth up.

I didn't even realise there was such a thing as titles until I reached Riverside Province or thereabouts for the first time, but I had been exploring as much of the map as I could anyway, just for kicks. So I was pretty chuffed to be able to display Tyrian Explorer by Sanctum Cay. My first title, \o/ etc.

But even then as I struggled through the desert for the first time, I never expected that I would get Grandmaster Cartographer, although I did give it a fair stab, eventually getting 98.9% before I discovered Texmod later on.

Many of the other titles were out of the question for a long time as I only had Prophecies for my first year or so. But with the trilogy and then EotN later, further possibilities began to open up. I read up about the HoM, but vowed to complete the storyline before deliberately chasing any specific titles.

Then I finally finished EotN and began to split my time between mucking about on other characters and chasing the easier titles such as Skill Hunter etc on my main. I still wasn't completely obsessed with titles, but it was giving me something to do at least.

And then came the HoM calc. Started at 24/50, immediately dedicated some leftover achievements to reach 27/50, and 30/50 was easy with a few pets and hero armors.

I took a bit of a rest from the game at that point, then decided I'd see how far I could reach beyond 30 anyway. Expected to be able to get 35 but 40 would be a good challenge, and while 45 gave the coolest sounding title I thought, I still refused to believe I could actually make it until I got to around 42.

I was getting pretty demoralised at the thought of acquiring obby armor or 50 minis etc, since I've never been a big farmer of gold, never really managed any of the elite areas etc. But then I realised that if 45 was going to be my goal, then I could effectively forget about 5 achievement points of my choice. That made 45 seem a bit easier, and sure enough, a month or so ago I finally got my Legend Of The Mists.

Right now I'm still of the belief that I'll never get 50/50 without having to join some elite speedclearing guild and deal with people drama that I ordinarily can't stand. But for now, I'm still in my own guild, still playing at my own pace, and still having fun, which I guess is what matters in the end.

And they still are pointless and waste of time. But, then again so is every other mmo play style. It's all about wasting time until it's time to goto work or time to do something else. The only point being IS IT FUN TO ME?!

Personally GW has become very boring to me. I only check in on Mondays to see what Nicholas wants and rummage through my storage bins to find the resources I have saved for 5 years and give him his share, throw the 5 gifts back into storage and log off for another week.

For some it's just the storyline and just playing pew pew and kill kill. For me I need rewards for my wasted time. I like new equipment and new toys to play with that have more attachments to them and more powerful things to play with. Most of the equipment in GW is boring very boring. Only the flaming and Icey Swords and that pre-order hourglass staff are really worth playing with for eye candy. Like in Diablo 2 if you have a cold weapon it has a chance of "freezing" your opponent in place when you strike. I like weapons that have activations on them. Extra damage, animations stuff like that. GW has the most boring equipment usage features of any mmo I've played online.

But to each their own. GW has reached boredom levels long time ago. At least there's no monthly fee.

When titles came out, I decided not to bother with them and not care about any elitism/exclusion that could come from that, though deep down I felt worried about it. I also didn't really have the time to bother and at first I didn't like the title-dependent direction EotN seemed (to me) to be taking, e.g. PvE-skills based on titles. I was a casual player back then and felt bad since I had no impressive title to display under my IGN.

Now, HoM has me buying the (okay-at-best IMO) weapon sets and getting hero armor, and doing Trade Contract quests across all my alts to get Vabbian armor (finished that, and in the process earned enough money from general PvE loot to afford the armor and materials ironically), and I just started towards Vanquisher, Cartographer, Protector, Guardian, and others. I managed to get from 14 to 30/50 since I came back to play GW without any titles (apart from elite area completion statues), so now I am hesitant to muster the dedication to try to get to 40/50 or even GWAMM or 50/50 because I feel a bit like it may be too late... but I am going to give it a go. Part of it is for closure, a somewhat "bucket list" to complete before I likely never play this game again, especially regarding the world: I want to feel that I've been everywhere and experienced it all before I move on... find nooks and crannies I didn't know about and relish in the nostalgia.

Also, I personally like most Obsidian armor (not Necro, Ranger or Monk) and now that I am in an alliance that does speed clears regularly, something I had no idea about before I left GW before (enough that the acquisition of ectoplasm and obsidian shards seems trivial now), that dream I had for years to actually buy a set, thinking back to the early days of GW where somebody in Elite armor, yet alone Obsidian armor, was not a common occurrence, may actually happen.

Basically, I'm giving it all a go now, compared to deciding not to put the effort in years ago and generally ignore titles. I have my 30/50, and I would like a higher title or the GWAMM title even (), but if I feel like I have enough closure and feel I can move on, I will, and I'll worry about any possible "lol noob you don't have gwamm or champion of the gods" discrimination later in Guild Wars 2.

Well, at first when it was introduced, I hated HM. Also, I never thought I'd go for any title beyond Protector.

Then came the Zaishen daily quests... and suddenly, I found myself fighting HM, and, well, if I've already cleared half an area moving to the zaishen boss, since there were so many already done, why not finish the vanquish...

And then the chain started and landed me at 27 titles...

Attitude sure changed.

I worked on a GWAMM every 6 months when PvE updates were flowing.

Now, I stopped playing GW b/c the game is extremely dead for me. I have beaten everything to death.

If this continues, ANET is not getting anymore of my money in GW1. That's for sure!

Well, remember back when I started playing this, my bro and I shared an account. And I had like 20k, which was a lot back then, and he was so jealous. And I liked opening chests, but I didn't want to spend too much money on it.
Also, when I first started maxing titles, some of them seemed near impossible to me.
Now, a couple years later, a couple hundred ecto's more and a GWAMM on my ele, I'm maxing treasure hunter, lucky, unlucky and wisdom out of boredom lol. All I have left in this game is hardcore DoA and chestrunning Nothing much more to do for me. Could give PvP a shot, but not leaving my guild, not a chance^^

Also, I thought buying a new armor set was super expensive back in the day (that was even before insignias lol). And now, I wanted to give my ssin vabby armor cause I thought it looked kind of ok. I crafted it, put it on, and was horrified. It was f*cking ugly and I hated it (this was AFTER dyeing it white first), so I salvaged it and got 5 rubies back, and didn't even give a damn Many people will hate me for this xD

The first time I sent a character to the Eye of the North, I took it seriously and expected that my characters wouldn't or couldn't go back to the other continents. I've since realized the ways the game encourages you to travel.

This week I noticed the consequence that the Prophecies battles are too easy, using heroes and the spells I've picked up from the other continents. I'm still going to finish the Prophecies campaign though, so that I can do the War in Kryta.
