Any regrets about your first profession choice?

Every time I log onto guildwars, I am thankful I made a necro and wasn't lured into anet's description of the ele and its ad of "high damage and nuking" I don't know what exactly was running my mind when I made a necro, but I was intrigued about anet's description. Necros are patient and many plans involve sacrifice?
If I did have any regrets, it was when I was a noob and I was running bad death magic/blood magic hybrids with prophecies only skills. Now playing a necro is so easy, I think my brain's atrophied. I am quite glad I choose a necromancer to start with.

Played my monk for three years. Nerfs came round. Haven't played her since. Makes me sad.

No; since you can have more than one character, why regret starting out with something when you can make something else if you don't like it much?
I don't regret starting out with my Ranger, even though I don't play her very often and didn't play her at all for a long time. If anything, I regret starting in Prophecies, because I quickly decided that I hated her appearance (that has since been changed) and the slowness of the campaign was driving me batty. I didn't finish leveling her up until well over a year after making that character, and took even longer to ascend and do the attribute quests.

Regrets about my first profession choice? It was a War...'Nough said.

Monk, got her to level 19 and thought, Ele and Warrior. Then Deleted my monk.
Do I regret it? Not really... ER Infuse if fun to play and a beast. I hung with my Warrior and Ele till Eye of the North. Monks didn't get serious love until late Nightfall, even after Healers Boon I was still 'meh'.
I remember PROTECTION MAGICS SUCK on everyones mind pre-factions. It's funny that no one made hybrid builds within the same profession at that time.
"Healer, protector and warrior stances?! Blasphemy! It's almost as crazy as Frenzy! Which is the worst skill ever!"

My first profession was Ele. I got to post searing, found flare spam wasn't working against the grawls, deleted it, and remade it so I could be back in pre-searing. After a while I decided to make a Me/N and focus on hexes. I got to Kryta, took a long break, and decided to delete it and start over with a War. Then 5 years or so later my War has everything done, my Rit has most things done, and my Ele has NM Prophecies and half of NM Factions.
Black Metal
my regret is that I wasn't able to foresee the future and know that you'd eventually be able to freely change your secondary, so I made 2 necros (one to be SS n/me, the other to be MM n/mo), so with my eventual 10 slots I had to leave 1 profession out, which is Mesmer.

It's a sentimental thing. The toon you went on the first time you logged into gw has a lot of good memories and well, even if another profession is better, I am at least still biased towards my profession and dote on that character with the best trinkets and stuff.
turbo234
My first was a war called James noble. Had him for about 3 years, and one day for whatever reason, I deleted him. Months later I thought I would remake him but its not the same.
And I don't really regret too many things but I had a monk who I did literally everything with but I wanted a female monk instead so I remade it. Little did I know that the next week they released the makeovers. Yeah, I was pissed.

Warrior, played for 2 years before I used my next character slot. Yes I regret that..
SkyFallsInThunder
None whatsoever. Made my Ranger and he has been my main ever since. Made him GWAMM and now I've discovered how fun a Rit can be, so I'm playing him. But no regrets, I love that profession and were I to go back, Ranger would still be my first choice.
Iuris
I dunno, I disliked my warrior for a long time, mostly because I got the hair colour wrong, but then, once he got a makeover, he kinda grew on me and is a prime candidate for GWAMM by now...

First 4 classes I started in order were
Ranger
Mesmer
Warrior
Necro
Abandoned the warrior within a few days didn't start another till Factions came out.
Abandoned the Ranger when Factions came out because I didn't want to keep running it through Prophesies so started another one in Factions.
Really stupid decision.
Mesmer and Necro are still with me

My 1st character was a warrior but I was such a noob in the beginning. I thought ít'd be awesome to make a W/E and be all gale, whirlwind and/or frozen burst in your face pwnage. Found out that Warrior's aren't very good with energy and when factions came out I made an Assassin right away, not knowing that I could bring the warrior over.
Finally dusted him off when EotN came out. Not really a regret but it felt like a really big waste of a slot.

No regrets, just disappointment with my Necro when I realized that minions and traps weren't as intergrated as Pre made it sound... That and I couldn't get armor anywhere close to Eve's.
cosyfiep
nope...e/mo and she STILL is to this day. 2nd was n/me--runs curses ss, 3rd me/r and last was monk....still have them all and still play them the most (though my necro didnt see any action for some time and my mes got stuck at yaks until wintersday '05--she was made in august '05).
I thought very carefully before I made my first character (and my hubby and I played together--he made a warrior to play with my ele---however now he barely plays and his warrior gets the least amount of that play time). His first character, ranger and yep she is still being played (more than the warrior).

No regrets here.
I started as a warrior and now, almost 5 years later, he's gwamm with 23mil exp, 3k hours played and still used almost daily.
Currently just really hoping the survivor change is for reals. Would love working on getting him survivor (by proper playing), despite nearly 5k deaths

Assassin here.
No regrets.
Although I'm rather disappointed that I can no longer farm with shadow form.

Do secondary professions count? My first character was an E/R, and it took a long time (eg almost all the prophecies campaign) to really find any builds that synergised well. Of course, once I found out that it allowed for permanent mist form, I finally felt vindicated.
That character’s name, on the other hand, was entirely inexcusable. Turns out that if you give them a title (Lord So-and-so), you might just look like a bit of a tool.

Yes...I started with an assassin a few years back. Never got her further than Nahpui...we just didn't click. Moved on to an Ele in Proph who stayed in Yaks Bend for 1 year, discovered Ele's were not my thing either. Moved on to Nightfall and made a Derv and it has been my main ever since. Now that I've finished everything with her I play with my old characters again, try out new stuff...

No regrets here. First character was an ele, and I knew I wanted to go earth with him after studying the wiki a bit before I started playing. I agree that the ele does not live up to the way they're presented by the marketing hype, but I found the profession enjoyable for what it really is.
He has made GWAMM and is still my best farmer, whether it's soloing vaettir as e/me, toasting tengu for feathers as e/d, running e/rt spirit spam, or leading a discord team as an e/a. He has the flexibility to do just about anything and to use most secondary professions well. (Though I am a bit irritated at losing a couple of my favorite farms because of the change to Sliver Armor.) I still prefer earth over the other elements.
Shortly after making my ele, I also made a ranger that I took pure-beastmaster as soon as I had the skills, and a monk that started and stayed as a smiter. No regrets about either of those. All three characters were made within a couple of weeks. The ele has gotten a bit more play than the other two, but both of them are within spitting distance of GWAMM any time I decide to finish it up for them.
In the last year I've added a rit (just had his first birthday yesterday) and a paragon (about four months ago). Both are Legendary Survivor and fun to play.
I can't say I've had any regrets about any of the characters I've created.

My first character was a Warrior that eventually became my main, currently retired.
No regrets, except maybe running Wammo builds way back then...
I enjoyed the profession so much I ended up creating 3 more Warriors after it, but I have so many characters now I'm really spoiled for choice anyway.

I wish I had picked monk instead of warrior to play when I started GvGing. Not only is it a thousand times easier to find a guild as a monk, but you meet more girls.

First was a necro, and I am still glad about that. Second was warrior and no regrets about that one either because those two differ like day and night so I got to play it again with a whole new experience.

I will never regret choosing Elementalist as my first profession.
They are the protagonists, after all.
(Yeah! You all other inferior professions are there so we elementalists have something to kill! Suck it, bitches! *Left hand on hip* *Snap fingers at left* *Snap fingers at right*)
After having done every single thing in the game with my elementalist, I switched to the other 9 professions, but I still take her for some Wanted and Zaishen quests, and all available stuff during festivals.
They no longer deal as much damage as they did compared to other professions in HM, since elemental damage is the one hit the hardest by HM's armor increase, and enemies just run away from AoEs faster than your heroes do, but they still have quite some tricks up their sleeves.
I rarely use secondary profession skills, but, you know, Arcane Echo always comes in handy for them.

I regretted my first profession choice until 5/21/2010.

Warrior, never regretted. I had played other games before. One in particular basically had the warrior, ele, monk setup in damagetank, damage and healing professions. It goes with my personality.
FEAR ME, YOU'RE ALL ALONE, I AM THE STRONGEST

I can't remember if it was my exact 1st but I do clearly remember making an Elementalist back in 2005, and despising it to hell and back once I got to post-searing Ascalon.
Deleted that crap and made a ranger.

None whatsoever ^^ Been thinking about making a mesmer though, because the thought of dumping a ****load of bad hexes on someone very fast is quite satisfying.

I haven't been playing long, only since last summer, but I regret a little that most of my 8 characters were created through trial and error instead of following other peoples' builds. I ended up with an ele/necro, a mesmer/ranger, a rit/necro, warrior/necro, necro/warrior, mesmer/necro, rit/assassin, and paragon/ranger. Too many necros, I know; and poor choices of secondaries. I like the characters too much to change or delete them currently.
I regret a little that I deleted a dervish and a ranger some time ago; I couldn't figure out how to use them well enough. I may try playing a dervish again sometime.

But rangers are hot. Hell, I was contemplating making a second PvE one...

Now when i really want to enjoy the game, i play mez, sin, derv.
About other chars...i regret to create rit(i find it waaay too boring) and monk(as above...). I've just found them role for farm, but that's all.

Monk here. Never regretted it.
Sadly, wiki & EOTN & */Rt Healing skills happened.
I still get to pick my teams on Zaishen Circus days, but these days a monk only needs to reach "not entirely spastic" and "UA" or "HB" builds and they're good enough.
I ping HB then take anything I want. The robots only know how to go "HB?", they don't know how to recognise you're not even using it, I like to use Glimmer of Light, and still they won't notice anything is wrong. I swear I think I'd have to cast RoJ before anybody noticed something was different.

My first character was a ranger. I remade him in Factions along with all my toons (which ArenaNet made me regret with the birthday presents thing now that I get one a year later than everyone else). If I didn't have others toons to play of course I would regret making a ranger my main; they are balanced so poorly for PvE with their effective build diversity incredibly limited in comparison to every other class bar the paragon. They certainly don't play well for what they are supposed to be (lol @ pets).
The only real regret I have about a character choice is to go for GWAMM on my warrior. I'm so sick of playing him (but he was the only one I bothered for survivor on). Personally I really hope one of the titles to be changes is GWAMM because I'd like to earn it on my account even though I play lots of alts. Same reward for same achievements, regardless of whether I did it on multiple toons. It's only fair.
