The influx of players to Pre made bags and kits double in price (to 1k and 10k respectively) because the demand skyrocketed but supply dropped (nobody was farming Charr anymore). After a while bags dropped back to 500-600g but kits haven't. And they're harder to get.
I suppose things will level out after the novelty wears off, and everybody and their dog got LDoA.

She's been in pre for well over three years. That long enough for you?

The daily quests generally require you to run around a lot more and the foes you actually want to kill don't drop anything. Farming charr gets pretty tiresome after a while too, but at least you still get dyes, runes/insignias, the occasional purple and theoretically a bag or kit.
See if anything, I think that the low cost before the dailies were introduced was due mainly to the fact that players were forced to death level charr excessively just to gain some XP. Many players would undoubtedly run over and kill the bosses just for the hell of it, possibly getting a kit. Also demand was shockingly low for kits back then since most players just rolled on through to post.
Now, however, the situation is quite different. For the past few days I've actually seen people actively trying to buy full kits for 10k and having no success. So when it comes right down to it, can anyone come up with good reasons that this drop should be as rare as it seems to be? When introduced they were mostly amusing, not really being considered essential. These days, however, many players seem to feel that they're necessary... when it gets to that point I think the drop rate needs to be reconsidered, especially for a non-vanity item.

Charr Kits are neither necessary or essential in pre.
They are the rarest dropped item in what is a closed environment.. pre. As such they should retain their rarity.. and they drop far more than items considered "rare" in the rest of the game.
Rare drops are not an entitlement, regardless of demand for them.

About your claim that kits drop far more than other rare items in the game... just what is that claim based on? If you've gathered some evidence which supports that claim, by all means share it. As I see it, that would be a very hard claim to test anyway, since the rarity is likely more due to the fact that they only drop from a level 10 foe, whereas other golds can drop at random from virtually any foe in an area, and the foes are generally level 20 or higher. Especially with Hard mode, getting just about any rare drop (with a few exceptions like Voltaic spears, etc) shouldn't take very long, especially if you farm solo (as many do with kits).
There's still the fact that other rares are largely cosmetic... rare runes can be purchased from traders, max weapons are easily obtained. Charr kits on the other hand serve a different (and important) function.
