Hero tier lists

Thought it might be interesting to see how people tier heroes, based on Sirlin's tier criteria.

1) Top tier
2) Middle tier
3) Bottom tier - these professions are still usable, but they're hard to use
4) Garbage tier - no reason to use these professions at all.
These tiers are for heroes, NOT players (with players for example Assassins immediately shoot to God tier). I'll start. My tiering is (naturally) heavily biased towards a player caster character, especially Elementalist primary.
God tier: Ritualists
Top tier: Mesmers, Elementalists
Middle tier: Necros, Monks
Bottom tier: Dervishes, Paragons, Rangers
Garbage tier: Warriors, Assassins
Necro MM deserves top tier more than Elementalists, but you can only have one of them in your team so ...

Primary Mesmer represent -
God Tier: Mesmers (I -can't- function without disrupting enemy ele/mesmers, I'm squishy.) and my Wastrel's offense is useless without chaining Mistrusts/Guilts/Complicates/Cries.
Top Tier: Ritualists (any kind), Necromancers, Smiting or UA Monks.
Middle Tier: ER or Earth Elementalists, AoD Dervishes, Rangers.
Low Tier: Normal Elementalists, Dervishes, Normal Monks, Paragons.
Crap Tier: Warriors, Assassins (Critical Strikes e-management, Deadly Arts. 30-45 second recast shadowsteps even in PvE. I could go on for quite a bit. Ugghhhhhhhhh, but Anton gets +1 tier for only sexy male hero without serious personality issues.)
Edit: Forgot Paragons existed (I blame Anet)

personally I do not think warriors are garbage, every balanced team would rely on a tank, which basically fits the warriors purpose. Also melee does incredibly amounts of damage and warriors use kd's too.

From a Paragon Primary:
God Tier- Paragon (support + damage)
High Tier- Monk, Mesmer (more support)
Middle Tier- Necro, Elementalist, Ritualists (damage)
Bottom Tier- Warriors, Dervishes (tank/damage)
Garbage Tier- Assassin (I might run Anton just because I read somewhere that Anton is short for a normal-sized human >.>), Ranger

I usually run a build with 2 ROJ melee support monks, one necro melee support hero, an ST, WOH, and 2 mesmers - which can be changed for air elementalists if required. Thing is, not one of these heroes is god-tier in my eyes as they all pull equal weight. but if I had to have one in god tier I'd say it's the defensive ST ritualist because of the absurd damage prevention he provides in elite areas. Obviously he is far less valuable in the common areas. I know you are asking people to list heroes by profession, but I'll post a list with heroes by role as their value is dictated by role (obviously) and wether it's End-game or common areas.
Domination Mesmers I value because of the dual purpose they serve. Hex Removal and massive Armor-ignoring AOE on a short cooldown in 1 skill. AOE interrupt and good Armor-ignoring AOE in 1 skill, and so on. For this reason I prefer a Mesmer over an Elementalist. As a Melee user I rank necromancer higher than an Elementalist, too. Skills such as Mark of Pain and Dark Fury are enough to warrant a party slot for a necromancer. The reason I do not have many heroes in top tier is because there's no competition due to half of the heroes being total garbage for me.
Elite zones
God Tier: Defensive Soul Twisting Ritualist
Top: Panic domi (DoA HM only)
Middle: Domi/Illu mesmer, Melee Support Necro, ROJ monk, Invoker Elementalist, SOS Ritualist.
Bottom: WOH monk (he is good, but not as valuable as the damage classes)
Garbage: Assassin, Dervish, Paragon, Ranger, Warrior
Normal zones
God Tier: N/A
Top: Domi Mesmer, Mark Of Pain Melee Support Necro (this hero packs Channeling Magic)
Middle: ROJ monks (due to long cooldowns and backlining with SoA/DH&HD isn't as valuable), Soul Twister
Bottom: I'm inclined to list a SOS ritualist at bottom simply becuse in the normal vanquishes or missions the spirits often won't get many attacks off before it's time to move on. And since the necro already has AR and Splinter this hero is redundant. WOH healer.

Personally speaking I'm more like this:
God tier: Necromancers
Top tier: Mesmers, Paragons (I do something with mine which means I'll never let one out of the party now)
Middle tier: Ritualists, Monks
Bottom tier: Dervishes, Elementalists
Garbage tier: Warriors, Assassins, Rangers
I'm not someone who generally uses heroes in elite areas mind you, I just have my preferences for general HM PvE and certainly when I'm taking hoomans in my party, I don't have the same rankings of classes.
Also with the 1 MM comment, I've run JB and AotL side by side before as well as AotL along Flesh Golem+Arcane Mimicry. I wouldn't say you can only have 1 MM in a party full stop o_o Depends on the areas and stuff but I know you're more than experienced and knowledgeable enough to know that, hence why the single MM in a party comment made me o_O somewhat.

0)Rit & Mesmers
1)Other rit (if not using 3 mesmers) & fill in the blank necros
2) None
3) Monks, ER Ele
4) War, Derv, Ranger, Sin, Para (can secondarey all usefull stuff on rit, mes, nec, or youself) and other types of eles.
Tbh I haven't messed with some of the ranged derv stuff and propbably won't. If I could I would use more mesmers vs necros.....not gonna pay for overpriced merch option though.

0) God tier - SoS Ritualist \ Mesmer
1) Top tier - Any other ritualist \ Necromancer
2) Middle tier Elementalist \ Monk
3) Bottom tier Paragon \ Dervish
4) Garbage tier - Assassin \ Warrior \ Ranger
That said, the reason ritualists rank so high for my sake has as much to do with restoration magic being reliant on spirits as anything else. If it was summoned creatures (aka minions could substitute for spirits) it would be a lot more interesting.

ER ele is next to necro only because necro can be taken in more setups and the protection ER ele offers can be bypassed with a ST rit combined with MM/prot or curse/prot necro

From a melee player's point of view:
God tier: domination mesmer
Top tier: ritualist, smite support monk, curses necromancer
Middle tier: other necromancers, other mesmers, other monks, earth & ER prot (when ER is microed) elementalists
Bottom tier: Orders dervish, other elementalists
Garbage tier: assassin, warrior, ranger, paragon, other kinds of dervish
Reason for not putting ritualists in god tier is that while splinter weapon and A-rage might be very powerful for melee players, the non-mobile nature of spirits is a big hindrance, not to mention the recharge (excluding soul twisting)
Also, when fights last long enough for heroes to be able to set up all spirits and do significant damage with them, you're doing something wrong.

The Ritualist can do so much; spirits alone do a lot of work and SoS gives a lot of compression leaving a lot of room for other functions.
From the perspective a physical, a Necromancer is very useful but more limited for a caster player (MMs still do a lot for a team).
Mesmers are very potent - it doesn't take much from Domination Magic for them to achieve a lot.
Elementalists are not as strong but still decent - ER is a good skill but ER Eles aren't on par with the professions above and that simply leaves them with damage which Mesmers and Necs can also do and achieve similar results (Ele damage isn't useless though).
Monks are decent healers, can clean and buff melee and add some direct damage support. Only real drawback are their energy limitations.
Use of Rangers and Paragons is limited, almost exclusively to my Necromancer (and perhaps Ranger and Paragon if I ever bothered with them) - can provide ranged physical damage that can be amplified in various ways.
The Dervish is the more useful of the melee professions, since it has a caster based role it can fill - namely Orders spam and/or healing.
The Warrior and Assassin are near useless, I can't think of a genuinely good reason to bring one. Maybe a Crit-bow build is viable for an Assassin.
My ordering is pretty much independent of my primary, but that doesn't mean I use the same builds. Necromancers are still above Eles and Monks but below Rits regardless. Mesmers and Rits are constant.
Use of Rangers and Paras are limited to stacking several of either to achieve something.

This is how I play as a monk... I generally run with 2 AotL necros 1 being a para shouter 1 being a monk protter as secondaries since AotL only take a few necro skills. Rits I use a SoS/Channeling rit and a communing Ghostly Might rit. Basically all my healing comes from me (monk) or necro protter.
Only time I'd drop necros from god status is low corpse areas.

0) Mesmer by far. Only class that qualifies for this, I haven't played without one in a long time (even before the mesmer update and 7h update).
1) Ritualists, Necromancers - I only use these typically for healing and support. BiP, Splinter, MM, etc - but I rarely have a team without at least one of each.
2) Monks, Ele's, Rangers. An ele is a potent force with ER, and decent with air magic. Monk's are amazing healers if the e-management is sustained - I combine with BiP to make a UA monk amazing. Rangers are awesome utility and damage with splinter, plus my girlfriend plays a ranger so I'm biased.
3) Dervishes, Paragons. Paragons are utility when I'd need/like more than I can slot on a secondary.
4) Warriors, assassins. Self explanatory. Dervish with the update is the only melee I'd use as a hero.

I'm only going to make the first part for heroes, because human builds don't match up thanks to PvE skills
God Tier: Necro(s) D-way, Sabway, or just an MM. From 4 man to 8 man areas you can't VQ crap without at least one.
Top Tier: SoS ritualist, Domination mesmer. You can play any build and bring any mish mash of 4-6 other heroes, and you can roll anything in the game with this combo
Middle Tier: Command Paragon, Ineptitude mesmer, SogM or ST rit, ER protter, Urfshakur, RoJ monk, hex removal monk, avatar of (situational) dervish
Bottom Tier: Rangers (all usable builds), warder eles, redbar monks, Blood Necros, anything with orders, VoR mesmers, 100B warrior.
Garbage Tier: Assasins, nuker eles, axe warriors, tanks (hero tanks, hello micromanagement), pararangers (either way), trappers, motivation paragons (non-Racway), non-avatar dervishes.
This is how it is for me. I've seen others make garbage tier stuff work, but best results for me (imbagon human) are what's above.

Ritualist stands alone for having no substitutes. Mesmer is your top-flight offensive tool with lots of utility, and Necros can do pretty much anything and run weird bars and still be effective from their natural strength.
Monk, Elementalist, and Paragon are serviceable filler, that unlike the big 3 gain or lose value fast depending on your main class. Dervish and Ranger are more niche for specialized situations. Warrior and Assassin are well documented trash tier, gogo melee AI!

the first thread where everyone agree : Assa & Warrior are the big winners !
this deserve some search. There Must be a few usefull build possible.

The problem aren't builds, is the AI
FoxBat
Positioning matters a ton when you're melee, and it's one of those things heroes are horrible at. But beyond the melee issue...
Any dagger combo is severely crippled in AI hands, even when chaining correctly they just do it too slowly. Adrenaline-heavy builds are also somewhat screwed by poor prioritization of adren use, and most warrior IAS require some intelligence to use correctly.
If you really do want to run melee for some reason, derv wins for having mindless IAS and viable mindless spam builds. Critsins used to be OK but they are outclassed now, and you have VoS to replace hundred blades, even reaper's sweep vs earthshaker.

You can run monk stuff on a secondary too (SoS smite support, Curse smite support). But they're both more effective on a primary. Both (and ele probably) are filler: usually 5 slots are taken by: 2 rits + 2 mesmers + 1 MM (or 1 rit + 3 mesmers + 1 MM). Then the other two slots are filler, like curse resto, smite monk, command para, etc. Each has it's merits.
