What keeps you interested in playing guildwars for the long term?
Lots of people have been here for a couple years, others since the start over 6 years ago. Some play a few times a month while others play longer per week than the average full-time job. What drives you to keep playing? You can be very specific with a specific update, broad or have multiple reasons?
On the other hand...
Some of you quit and came back or cut back
Were there any defining moments that caused you to quit, cutback or comeback?
What conditions not present would drive you back to the game, or increase your playtime?

I like playing the game with the people in my guild. They're fun, friendly, and it's nice to chat with them on TS or vent. If it weren't for that and them, I'd have quit a while ago..

this has been my favorite game since it was released. however im now coming to the realization that everything i have put into the game now means nothing, since gw2 will be a fresh start(minus the 30/50 thing*roll eyes*). gonna look into some games that will OR are still going for a long period of time. its too bad though because gw was really enjoyable(i just invested a lot of time in this game, and wouldnt want it to go to waste again)

I like the playstyle GW has when you H/H, half strategy and half online RPG. Due to that I can either experiment widely, just play the tried and true or anything in-between depending on my mood.
I hate to break it to you, but all games are a waste of time in that sense.

Partly HoM now (Although I'm now coming to the realisation that anything past 30/50 is totally pointless, and am now taking a majorly laid back take on it), and finally getting GWAMM, as even after 6 years of playing I have never actually focused on maxing my titles.
Have quit many times before, the main thing that usually brings me back is no monthly subscription. GW is a visually stunning game that competed well with all the P2P MMO's, but without the monthly cost. Although I really do think that the lack of subs shows in the quality of game, it's still a great product for little cost.

No subscription.
I also like the H/H setup. I work 50-60 hours a week, on call for half the month, wife & 2 kids. I like the option to be able to leave my toon in an explorable area if I get a call or have to deal with a family situation.

Played since release. PvP in the game kept me hooked for years. Quit for a while after dhuum banwave, then started again in new year.
Keeping in contact with the Guild/Guild Wars buddies during the time I was banned by joining vent or playing other games like SC2 & LoL decided whether or not I was going to bother buying a new account for GW.

I am playing to add more points to the HOM there isn't any real point in my doing so as I have 31 and getting to 50 would take a lot of time and effort far more than its worth.
So I started 2 new characters and began again in presearing got ldoa but died a couple of times so am starting again to go for survivor or at least see how it goes.
Collecting Alcohol and fireworks whenever possible for those titles.
In post searing I am getting zeishen coins for another possible title but that's about it.
I guess I am really just passing time till GW2

Have yet to finish all campaigns on a single character.
My spirit spammer has finished Factions and EOTN, and at one point prior to deleting my monk I'd finished Factions with all of my characters.
BUT now I have a new assassin and a LDOA ranger on the way (once the char slot sale starts), so they, combined with finishing all campaigns on the rest of my characters, should keep me occupied for a looong time.

have to admit i just love this game it was the first mmo i truly played even though mmo is used loosely in gw sure sometimes i hated what they did with updates sometimes i loved it but my love of gw will have me playing thru gw2 until the servers shut down

I set goals, I like to reach my goals, I have yet to accomplish them all--so I continue playing. (then the HoM came out and gave me a few more

)
so my goals and a few extra added for the HoM (already have 49/50--so its not to finish but to have them all done).
I started playing with my hubby and we still do play together even though our play styles have radically changed in the last 6 years (2 man vanquishing with no healing skills

After I finished all the campaigns on my main, I turned to filling my HoM. Then just as I had almost filled it, the calculator was released and I was suddenly 24/50, so the immediate goal became 30/50.
Then after 30/50, I just kept pushing the HoM further until I was ready to give up. The dream was 45/50 for the Legend Of The Mists title, but it seemed so far away. But I made a couple of in-game friends and found a RL friend who played as well, so they helped me along the way. (No, I will never join a guild.)
Then after 45/50, I began to wonder if the full 50/50 would actually be possible, and so I began playing for that. But now I've actually realised that I'm closer to GWAMM, so right now I'm chasing that, and then plan to resume the climb to 50/50.
TLDR: chasing titles. vOv

I'm a completist. Need every minipet and every title. Almost there. Seriously.

its a pretty fun game. i like the friend i have on here also, which is a main reason i stayed. plus i like setting up goals for myself and then breaking them ahead of schedule. makes me feel pretty good about myself. Like at the moment I'm working towards an everlasting destroyer tonic and i should have the money for it. It's just good to know working towards a goal actually pays off.

GW for me is like Diablo, you don't ever really quit... and I'll probably hop on it from time to time until the day the servers go down or I croak.
Oh what keeps me interested? Everything..

I would have to say I met some nice people in Guildwars, but people were never the reason I stuck to playing guildwars. I have good social life in real. The essence of the game, title hunting, challenges, quests and PvE were very appealing to me. I liked the Idea to connect into a fictional world that is free of real life worries and bounderies...

I like GvG and sometimes RA. Ive never liked the rest of guild wars, and quit pve in under a week from the time i purchased the game :s I still play and love GvG, and as long as im able to play, i expect i will do.
I also really like the drama/rage that guild wars brings, particularly in pvp. I find it hilarious and its one of the best features of this game imo. Its just unfortunate that a lot of people take it personally and get upset over it.

After almost 20 months not too much anymore. I sometimes login to see what todays VQ is but most of the time can't be bothered to do it.
Almost got a full hom, just need the mini's and some pvp title I will never get.
One thing keeps me interested is the special events and the upcoming WoC.

Addiction, best MMORPG i've played, a guild consisting of best friends of around 4 years and it still manages to keep it's players occupied

Unique gameplay and hom kept me going.
The storyline is always awesome in the game even if I beaten the crap out of it. It still feels it has its RPG element in it.
Still waiting for WoC!

Well, since I'm already 50/50, I like finding myself new targets and all kind of weird, ridiculous goals and just go for it. They keep me playing day after day, month after month.

My computer is to blame. It's even more addicted to games than I am and crashes if it goes without a game being run for more than ten minutes...
And I'm not kidding, the computer really does crash in windows, and running a game helps (I guess SOMETHING is kept busy by the game being run...), and GW is a stable game I can have running in background while I surf the net and similar.

my only goal is to finally get r12 hero. thats why im still playing.

Good place to switch off the brain after plenty of hours of corporation tricks. Just relax. Plus obviously some people to talk and play with. Fantastic game.
Gruff
The friends I have in game mean a lot to me, and I like the "team play" in pvp.

I play for a few reasons:
1) Addiction
2) To push the boundaries of what is possible and be the best
3) To practice leadership/other transferable skills in an environment that ultimately doesn't matter if I RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO up
4) Creative outlet
