why are uninscribable or oldschool weapons so special?

The ones that you should be laughing at are the people that paid that much to get the first BDS - and now there are loads of that exact same staff. In the case of that bo staff - there *might* be a handful of others. And then we could get into mini pets, and other things - bashing someone because they are willing to pay a lot for something rare = fail. The point was that there really are loads of idiots in the game that think a BDS and other inscription crap items are "rare" and they say it and talk it up in game all the time. Hardly anyone works to get something really nice anymore it is just handed to them. I appreciate rare old school items because I had to work hard to get them. Props to you cataphract for being proud of the fact that you actually WORKED to get something and did not just get the average inscription item like everyone else.

It's not a "I'm holier" comment, it's just a comment on how people with "rare" weapons everyone and their mother has think they're going to impress others and how it's really funny to me when they try that trick on myself.
I mean, seriously, a BDS? B... D... S... ? Come on.
It's as impressive as a monk in black obsi, green failgloves, a blindfold and a name in ALL CAPS in Kamadan ad1.

I don't think a lot people that really like and want non-inscription stuff think that people that use only them are "idiots" you make a lot of assumptions raptors. Most of the people started playing the game at the start or near the start - when you farmed like mad just to get a decent drop of your favorite weapon or item. When a r8 14 stance chaos axe was worth a good bit because it was rare to find good ones.
Personally I don't care much if inscription items, greens, trader items etc are around - but I think they should have had both of everything so that people that prefer to work for it can do so- if you just want something handed to you fine. If you don't have time to work for a rare item that is okay too - but for those that are okay with working for it I am sick of people whining they don't have everything easy.
And part of why I am thinking cataphract stated it that way is as I have seen - there are many in game that brag on and on about having a BDS, chaos gloves and other things and say they are "rare". Far from common - but if they were part of the old system 99% of them would be junk. I have had people laugh at me when I show them a r8 20/20 staff saying their BDS is way better and much more rare. The way it was stated was cataphract laughed at them for the same supposed reason you were laughing at their comment except they brag about something that is not that hard to obtain and honestly makes them look silly.
I also really prefer a lot of the more basic items as well. I had a big collection of tall shields because to me they look like what an actual warrior would use vs some of the others that would be impossible to wield. The same with many weapons. To each their own though - many things I think are just plain hideous others like but they look at it all the time not me and if they like it fine.

I'll have to be really polite since you're a moderator so - Please, for the love of lord you somehow managed to mention, read the last two paragraphs of Stuey's post. Amen, brother.

But anyways. Ive bought uninsc / oldschool items just because i personally thing nf ruined the game with inscription, as well as with some other things like heros and overpowered PvE skills.
As ive been playing since the beginnin and saw the "only non inscri" time. in all ways i tho it was better, as ive explained in some other threads, Back then, Non perfect items were fine.. 13-14% dmg for wep in use is just the same as 15%, but still nowadays noneone would take other then perfect..
Back then every item was able be worth some. Nowadays even perf r9 items are crap.
yep just like 1 off gothic and echovald shields went for hundreds of ectos now they get barely half of that price, there are only very few skins that are actually worth that much because of there rarity., i just dont consider an item that still drops thats half unusable is worth that much nowadays.
pre nf i was easily selling 2-3 off eternals for like 100k each.
sad story but people got to move on from the past!

well, gothic and echovald and other non-ins only skins are the only thing I am not worried about.. The market for them is still pretty active and a good one will fetch hundreds of ectos. It is just a shame NF pretty much reduced the experience of a rare drop to canthan/tyrian shields, foci and staves.
On the other hand most of my characters are PvP characters with chaos gloves, perfect bo staves and PvP-reward only 20/20 foci/wands. This is legit bsns tho.

You would honestly think A-Net would get a clue after the mausoleum. People were farming that thing like mad to get NF weapons in the non-inscription version. A few people I know of were going there every day and doing the same boring run over and over just for that. Now people are paying good money for a r9 15^50 scythe and the other items that normally would be inscription only... I'd really like if they added in something like Sorrows Furnace with new non-inscription weapons.
And honestly Hard Mode killed a bunch of weapons as well - as it used to be very rare to find a max sephis axe, or dead bow; and that is just two examples out of many. I would not have minded if they cut back on the drop rate of "rare" items in HM - would not want a bunch of white items but purples, etc - this has destroyed any desire to own many things as they are all over.
A few things that I do not understand is why they took items that were once unique as rewards for Halls and made them very common inscription items - dwarven axes, serpents.... except for crystalines but they can only be found inscription now.

Well, the answer is quite simple:
"WHEEEEEEE, I want that purdy axe as well!! WHHHEEEE!!! WHHHEEEEEE!!!!! GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!"
That's how most of the player base reacts to expensive non-inscr stuff. And Anet is the bad mother in the grocery store that gives the annoying crying kid his stupid candy, as long as it makes him shut up. But it won't make him shut up, because the next time they're in the store, the entire scene will start again, but then he'll ask for an easier drunkard title, etc...

i dont think anyone has ever cried about wanting this or that because i think most would actually prefer having something unique but it was too late when nightfall was released and they headed down that path ever since.
serpent axes was a good skin but eotn and the zchest and inscriptions all together devalued it to nothing like most skins.

probably not because people are crying, development team obviously haven't analyzed the game enough or played it enough to know whats rare and whats not, evidently shown in pvp rewards and what classifications they give items.
