why are uninscribable or oldschool weapons so special?
shadowfell
For me, aesthetics is really important and I'm probably not alone in thinking this either. Old-school or even pre-update staves, for example, look cleaner when modded than inscription weapons. For me, "Inscription: DIE IN A FIRE" is really unsightly and breaks the fluidity of the text otherwise on the staff/wand. I will pay far more for something without that, than with it.

There are two identical ones, both q13 +5energy. Even merch value is the same. It's impossible to say whether they are the only ones but they are indeed pretty rare...

Oh... I forgot one thing:

some item, for example, Bo staff and outcast shield are considered "rare" hugely due to the influence of this website and assumptions should never be taken as facts. For example, assuming that a uninscribable crystaline is "rarer" than inscribable crystaline are nothing more than just guessing. Look at HA now and the past, its more or less a dead town, there could jolly well be more uninscribable ones around.
Unlike Minipets such as Kanaxai, there is never any official statistic that shows if any weapon/shield are rare. There will always be someone who collects a lot of lesser known items such as Guardian Branch, Outcast shield, Bo Staff etc and spending weeks inflating it in guru and giving "reasons" like it is "super nice looking", "super rare" etc. Knowing how human "epeen" oriented minds works, for example, a simple and commonly drop item such as Bo Staff suddenly becomes "rare" and sells like hotcakes. Next, you will have people coming in and telling me i m stupid, and forcefully reinforcing the "fact" that Bo Staff and outcase shield is super rare etc. Worst case scenario, someone may just come in, lock the thread and ban me for a while. |

There are also req9 and req11 known to exist. I didn't know there were other q13 tbh, thought it was always the same sword. However req12 rumor also had come to my ears. Still the time frame for those dropping was very limited, about 2-4 months or so... too lazy to check for the exact time. And they only could drop from HoH, so no "shiverpeak chest" drop or something like. They are indeed among the most rare items in the game.
Oh... I forgot one thing: whoru? |

Very credible sources confirm the r9 and r11. i.e. A lot of people agree that they both are definitely real. whoru? Never heard of the q12, but the dual q13 seems familiar...

I checked my old private messages on guru: apparently some guy around here told me about that q12 one and I then pm'ed the suspected owner on guru. 6 months later he replied that there must have been a mistake and he never had a +5nrg crystalline. Whatever... my sources used to be viable usually - or wait... I'm just a random scrub

I'm ok. Your sources are usually solid, and you're no random scrub lol. How's you been? Any new awesome weapons :P ?

And no, no awesome weapons. Didn't play any GW (but one Dragon Arena event) since last years late summer.
Finished my school finals instead and now pretty bored and addicted to League of Legends. Have to stop soon and start looking for a new home though.
myths of fury
I like oldschool weapons (well mostly shields for now)
-Because the best skinned shields are only (mostly) oldschool
-Because they have more mods available to them (I.E. +10 vs species and +1 to non-warrior/para attributes)
-Because you can have 2 inherent mods that are inscs
I wouldn't pay a fortune for a q9 tac oldschool GotH with -5/20 and +30, when I can get an insc q9 GotH for dirt cheap anywhere... but then agaoin I'm no collector, I still "try" to get an in game purpose for the stuff I buy

The ones that you should be laughing at are the people that paid that much to get the first BDS - and now there are loads of that exact same staff. In the case of that bo staff - there *might* be a handful of others. And then we could get into mini pets, and other things - bashing someone because they are willing to pay a lot for something rare = fail. The point was that there really are loads of idiots in the game that think a BDS and other inscription crap items are "rare" and they say it and talk it up in game all the time. Hardly anyone works to get something really nice anymore it is just handed to them. I appreciate rare old school items because I had to work hard to get them. Props to you cataphract for being proud of the fact that you actually WORKED to get something and did not just get the average inscription item like everyone else.

Oh, and I *love* to show off my q8 15 stance Crys, and my q7 15^50 Brute. I don't brag about them, but I'll show them to collectors who are interested and the mutual appreciation is enjoyable.
Collecting old-school hard to find items is a fun aspect of the game for many players, and it's not in any way wrong.
