What will you do with your wealth?
BourbonFan
Going back the often used saying of "You can't take it with you when you're gone" I am asking to those of you who have accumulated massive and maybe not so massive amounts of wealth what will you do with your money when Guild Wars 2 comes out? Especially those of you, like me, who will probably not return to GW1 once GW2 is released. Will you distribute it to the masses in inventory clearing events that will have people talking about that guy who just gave out 600 ectos in TOA last night or will you hold onto it just in case GW2 turns out not to be what you thought it would.
In addition what do you think will happen to the GW1 economy once GW2 comes out? Especially if more people choose to never release their wealth back into the game?
If this topic has already been discussed before I apologize for the duplication.
Also this is not a thread for asking to be on the receiving end of any give aways since there is clearly a section of these forums dedicated to that very purpose.
Full Disclosure - I have returned to GW after a long break and had to start a new account due to my old account being hacked by gold farmers (according to correspondence with Anet support) so by the time GW2 comes out I estimate that I will have very little to my name to disperse to those who won't be joining us in GW2.

Spending it on stuff I need for my HoM, and helping friends get stuff they want/need for theirs. That's pretty much it.
Thrilla Killa
I already quit a few times and came back, each time i just gave away all my valuables to my good friends. I also opened up a trade in ascalon city once with a random person and gave them 50 ectos. He just said, thanks, and walked away. I kept his name, never seen him since

I guesss I dont fall into the category listed (wealth?????)
I will still be playing gw when gw2 comes out--so what little I have accumulated will still be right with me until they turn them thar servers off-----

All of mine will be spent helping old guild friends who are returning to get their HoM to 30. Keep some just in case because you never know!

I'm going to take all of the money I have and sit on it. If I decide in the future for some reason that I want to chase another title, I'll use the funds I'm storing to help me get there sooner. If some kind of link between GW and GW2 is made that allows me to turn my GW wealth into GW2 wealth, I might use it for that (but I dearly hope this won't be happening and don't expect it). When I finally find no reason to keep GW on my computer any more, I'll probably give away everything that doesn't hold a remote sentimental value and then uninstall.

Wealth? What's that? Been playing GW for 5 years. Got 45 ectoes with my 600 pre-nerf. Never done DoA. Been in a string of inactive guilds. And the 60k I have in storage...well, that's a lot for me. But, I plan on playing for as long as they keep adding content.

....I will keep it all until ANet decides to take GW servers down. Can't imagine I'll NEVER log into GW again after GW2 comes out, sure not for a long while but.. never? nah. I also hate to give out everything at once, I've done that before.. it's kind of lame.
I'd rather spot out the people that could actually use the stuff and give them a little bit that way I can help people out for years to come lol. Also for newbies it's funner to give them platinum instead of ecto's because the sheer amount of plat compared to ecto makes them think they are rich ;p

Leave it in a will to my future self in 250 years I know just what he/she looks like and his/her name.
I will leave a complete set of all common materials and as many sets of rare materials as I can get in the time.
Everything else converted to cash and hope for a decent rate of interest.
I will arrange for my zoo will be managed after my death to ensure future stocks and any fur hide feather from deceased members of the herd collected and added to my storage.

I am sure I will be back to GW1 about six months after GW2 comes out. I am going to need the money then.

If I get enough.. I will find worthy boys and girls to give it to, like Santa.
But for the moment, I need quite a bit of help to get a set of obsidian armor and my weapon monument filled.. not to mention point titles.. ><

even though I've been playing since prophecies I never farmed once. Whenever I did something in pve it was just to explore/have fun, never to get items or money and it has served me well, although most of the money I got was from sigils and z-keys today.
farming and grinding are boring and lame.

i may be laughed at for selling a vs or may be called poor because "everyone has a vs, and if not ur poor"...well i prefer to back up my wealth with titles...so when i get my HoM 50/50 and gwam...THEN and only THEN will i epeen to brag. good day otherwise im blowing my money on my account.
LordDragon
Spent most of everything I have ever earned in GW already. First getting to 50/50 and a GWAMM. Then farming for friends so they could get to 50/50. I just don't see the reason for accumulating too much in a game. I have a small reserve but that's it.

I already quit GW1 once and gave away some 3000+ ectos worth of wealth to guildies (4 years ago)
Got back to game 3 years ago, completed 4 GWAMMs since then, full 50/50 HoM, and accumulated some 10Ke+ worth of wealth.
I play the game occasionally now, but there are no plans of any giveaway.

My "wealth" has diminished quite a lot since I started buying weapons for me and a friend. Not as rich as most here, had around 1000 ecto, but I am around 50 now. Also gave away around a million in gold/ecto and a lot of other stuff since I have all I want.
I dont give away my stuff random but try to find the people who really need them.

As I'll probably still be working on the HoM when GW2 hits (and currently have no wealth as a new player) I won't be giving anything away. And I can see myself still playing GW1 after GW2 releases.
Plus, I'm willing to bet some people who buy GW2 will then learn about the HoM and try GW1 as well, I don't think GW2 spells the demise of GW1.

Sit on what I have (still trying to reclaim stuff after getting hacked a couple of years back). Even if I was going to play GW2, there's no reason to dump anything in GW1 at this point. The game will still be supported for a while after GW2 comes out, and you never know when Anet might throw a bone that would require some more activity in GW1 to get something in GW2. Heck, they may even eventually let gamers host their own servers (or even make an off-line version of the the game), so no point in throwing anything away until the very end.

Every time a skill is nerfed and people quit over it I want GW2 less. I'll probably just hang on to the wealth and keep myself busy over the winter playing the original.

Still have a ton to do finishing campaigns and getting armors and weapons...
Plus my LDOA in progress, and all the future stuff with that character.
When I do finally get to that far-off point when everything I ever wanted to do in GW is finished........I'll probably start on FoW/UW/DoA.
And I'm never going to GW2.
By the time I'm completely, utterly finished with and sick of GW, I just might have a computer capable of handling The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Random note: On my personal scale, 400k with zero ectos is mega-wealth I never thought I'd have even two years ago.

My wealth has been dwindling due to rarely playing the game when I log in as well as buying Zaishen Keys when I see a good deal in GToB.
I'll try (half-heartedly) to get rank 10 Zaishen before GW2 is released. Other than that there is nothing I want.

My wealth? What wealth? It cost me most of what I had to get obby armor, the last thing I needed for 50/50. Now I'm down to about 150K, some of which will inevitably end up with friends, and the rest I'll probably whittle away on rings or something.
IMO, if you amassed a fortune but you aren't playing anymore, then you were probably taking it too seriously when you were.

Oh and to answer the question. I haven't given it much thought. I do plan on playing GW2 and whether I quit GW or not depends on the level of support ANet gives it after GW2 launch. If it loses all support, I'll pop in here and there to give it to players who could put it to good use.

A less-known fact was that the 2nd cave drawing was a snarky response by Cro-magnon man who told Neaderthals to use the search function and then closed the thread.

There's no shortage of people who think everything was better "back in the day" and if we could only go back there life would be perfect. This is a little-known fact, but the very first cave drawing made by a Neaderthal was a whiny rant about how hunting mastadons was way more fun before it was nerfed by the introduction of the bow-and-arrow.

But, to stay on the tracks, I garnered most of my shiny bits playing through and not too much farming. I don't have the stomach for speed-clears; I'm ground out already from the titles; I guess I'm not a good factory worker. It would be nice and realistic to allow a trove of goodies to be stashed away for discovery in GW2 but it would be an unfair advantage.
I spend enough on guildies and friends that I don't feel like I'm hoarding any vast US Treasury-style stimulus package from the economy. That and you never know if you might some day want to come back and not be broke.
