Speaking of hotkeys, I accidentally started typing a whisper without the chat bar active (where you get all sorts of hotkey effects from the text of your message) the other day. I saw one I'd never seen before though which responded to Y and was some little window about Minions. I will have to figure out what that is and when it was added.
Is that something everybody knows about already? I've yet to study the updates since last Winter/Spring closely, so maybe I simply missed it. |

Whenever there's an update in the game I always read the update notes on the wiki. There's a link at the very top left of the main page of the official wiki, or there's a recent update link in the menu of links on the left under the logo of the original wiki.
I think those are two different things as I recall seeing both. Oddly I've been seeing "the corpse of" stuff a lot more the last few months.

It was added in the March 3, 2011 update. It works for spirits too, which is what I use it for mostly.

People also don't realize what they should be using salvage kits on. I'm only now getting a better feel for what salvages into what. (Materials like granite for example, are valuable). Probably worth a sticky thread in its own right. I also never realized that you want to be using a regular salvage kit almost all of the time (I was just using the experts kit). Something like a Gold Conch with a Measure for Measure inscription added to it can easily salvage into 150+ glittering dust.
|
(I actually thought of mentioning that earlier but figured it might ~derail this thread ... which would be unnecessary and unfortunate since I think the live thread where Snog gathered ideas for that sticky guide is still active and far more appropriate for such a discussion.
But +1 internet point to you mentioning it here in case it helps those reading discover how much of a difference that can make in the income from your merchfood ... to me, that's FAR from a little thing once you start paying attention to it.)

You can actually identify most unique drops, and dye your backpack, pouch and bags.
It doesn't change anything other than the icon, though.

You do not have to use a skill template to simply send a copyable url text string via GW chat! You can enter [http://www.guildwarsguru.com/;xx]in chat and it works like the clunkier way I always did it by starting from cntl-clicking my skill bar, pasting url there, and sending to chat. So you type a [ then paste the url you want to send then type a ; then type xx] and hit enter. |

After that I have looked for them occasionally. Haven't seen one in a long time but I don't look for them that often anymore either.

Back when I was playing GW on an AMD64 + 6600GT I used to see glimpses of these "hero drops" quite easily and regularly. After reading this thread I realised that I haven't seen this at all lately.
So... Here's to starting a theory that better hardware may influence this phenomenon...
:-D
Edit: Excellent thread btw

Last I tried the ghosts in combat, which was a while back after last year's halloween event, I found out that they will aggro the monsters which is rather funny. But it was helpful when running away from those nasty aatxes in UW when you're the last one standing. They would keep attacking it until it vanished, giving you time to get away. |

Also before they changed Otyugh's cry you could use it on the cows just outside of Shing Jea and it would make them run around madly as if they had mad cow disease.. At the time it was best thing that skill was used for
I know it's from GW2, but when I played the demo there were the cute bunnies hopping around in the norn starter area. When I lobbed a fireball at one it stood up, clutched it's chest and span around theatrically before falling over on it's back.
Edit... Hmm why do I think I spent more time mucking about than I did playing 'seriously' xD

one little funny thing is the tiny pig 'oink' ,from memery ,in the misson just out from La is the tuffest buger in game. A level 1 and if you can get him to aggro as you lead him back to the boy, he can take on and beat everyone solo in his path without anyone healing him. Allways found it funny
Xx I Dunno Xx
Something that blew my mind... Having a skill (unlocked) was more than just available for pvp characters and tome-ing... It means that every trainer in the skills campaign now sells it.... I had no idea with this until I tried arguing with someone for reverting my edit on forums, even after almost 4 years of playing the game, I had no idea about this.

You might want to avoid sleeping too long in the same place now, as the implication inherent to mentioning Oink on a thread about "little things" may lead to your untimely demise! Nothing can hurt that pig, and he never rests.
I still prefer mini pig to mini celestial pig for the idea of having a tiny, invinci-pig at my side.

So I was browsing GW wiki for cheap collector weapons for my heroes, when I came across an item I had never heard of before.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gemstone_Staff Needless to say, I was stunned. How many times in the past 6 years had I passed up that collector in Senji's Corner, thinking he had nothing worth trading for? |

I never noticed how cool the Arcane Staff was until I got one in EOTN:

Then I saw it's been available since Nightfall! The pictures on Wiki really don't do it justice either. It's beautiful in-game.

As a rule I always assumed collector's peddled only secand-hand trinkets! Also, it was exact item that made me aware too!

A year or two before TA has been removed I noticed the map with the dragon obelisks has a beautiful picture of a woman on one of the ruins' walls. Was a nice surprise to see such art in pvp too.

Oh, and this is just pathetic. I'm one of those jerks who always skips the cut scenes. Only by reading wiki did I.... (plot spoiler for Prophecies....).....realize that Vizier Khilbron is really the Lich (after SIX years of play). |
But for me, I found a lot of "wow" moments when I turned my camera angle up to look at things at a higher elevation than my head. It's like you're seeing scenery for the first time because you're seeing all sorts of new things! There often (esp. in later chapters) a lot of detail put into buildings, etc. that stretch way, way up.

I have also seen gold drop and henches/heros stealing the drop, and here I thought all gold was shared with the whole party!
BladeDVD
Just in case some didn't know, the gold coin drops are shared equally among all party members regardless of compass range.
Every time you kill a monster/foe (well, with some exceptions) it has a chance to drop loot. Heroes and hench, being part of your party, have a chance of getting that loot, same as if you were playing with all human players. You just don't usually see the loot drop and assigned to the hero/hench as they pick it up immediately on the server side (kind of like how they are so good with interrupts). Anyone out of compass range (greyed out in party window) of a kill is not considered part of the party when calculating chance to get a drop.
(Allies (minions, spirits, anyone listed under "Allies" in the party window for example) don't count as part of the party and don't get a share of any loot. This is important for skills that differentiate between affecting the party or allies (which would include party members.))

Down in Rragar's Menagerie there is a place that's like a swamp with huge trees growing. I never noticed this place because you must detour to get there. Wish I got a screenie while I was down there.

I just realized the bosses in the mission Boreas Seabed can have their elite skills capped with the Signet of Capture.
Why I thought they wouldn't confuses me even more. Normally, I figure the only way to capture Life Sheath in Factions was from the Monk Construct.

Does anyone remember discovering that "little thing" when you no longer had to map out to one of the Crystal Desert outposts to switch your secondary profession?
Thankfully, I was active when they changed that and saw the update right away. I've had a few friends come back from inactivity over the years and get a happy surprise with the "new" skill panel functionality.

Shift click and drag to split stacks, for years I'd been trading things between accounts to split them up, NO MORE! C to target closest enemy, V to target closest ally. |
Also, during The Dragon's Lair mission, each ring of the ringed spire in the centre of the map is associated with a facet; defeating a facet will make one of the rings glow

Yeah, God's honest truth. I always play with the volume fully muted, and I've never been the patient sort (I always did the same for console games too). There's probably all sorts of other stuff that I'm completely ignorant about. Most of the lore I learned from stuff the wiki stuck on the front page.

It is also one of the huge issues I have with another game I am playing right now. No cut scenes at all. The game, while fun enough to play, feels empty of any real story.

How is there pressure? Nobody knows who hasn't skipped and they can't message until it's done.

I have been the 1 of 8 not skipping more times than I can tell you. I feel no pressure--they can always drop out.

While working on my skill hunter title, I found out that there's an outpost in the Realm of Torment called Gate of Nightfallen Lands. After over four years of playing I find out about it only because of Onlsaught. Seriously, most pointless outpost ever?

When PuGing anything in HM...or any farm in nm it's just common courtesy to skip the cutscenes.
LicensedLuny
I won't skip a cutscene unless I'm the last vote. I figure if there's someone there who wants to see the movie, they might not have such trouble with that aforementioned pressure if at least one other player hangs in there with them.
