Ahhh, and life continues to be packed and busy.
BUT! I pretty much finished the drawing of Grenth! Time to work on the next one.
Critique, warm fuzzies, and comments welcome. I can finalize things about it based on input ^^
Oh, and if you're wondering... The thing in his hand is Dwayna's head-circlet thingymahwut. I added in a little blood for symbology, but I didnt go overboard at all. The coloration on the bottom portion and lower torso (the red bids), ended that way after color adjustment. Its just dramatic, its not blood covered clothes... So please dont panic or get grumpy about that XD
I thought it was a nice color contrast to the whites, blues, and greens above :]

Hello everybody interested in the Wintersday Workshop Party, the information for the party is FINAL.

Date: Sunday 15th of Januari

Location: The Frost Gate (mission outpost), International District 1
As far as activities and refreshments go you need not to worry, this is not a 'bring your own booze' party. There will be 'on air' music and trivia provided by gw-en.com radio. We have confirmation that Elfs and Snowmen will come to our party to supply everybody with drinks & entertainment (amoungst which an 'in district' wintersday trivia), and even Santa has promised to pay us a visit ^^ ... but be alarmed! ... The chance that Grentchies will show up and try to ruin our party is pretty much a given! We managed to capture a couple during wintersday and 'extracted' this information ... We can assure you though that no charr plushies were hurt during the interrogation process, we merely used their cuddliness to break the Grentchies
... So if you see any Grentch appear in district grab them and hold them upside down and give them a good shake, anything they 'stole' belongs to the honest person that 'found' it thus be adviced not to show up in a grentchie disguise, or you may have a lot of explaining to do!
As far as give away prizes go, I seem to have most of it sorted out, what i could do with is a bunch of ecto's (20 +/-) to drop over some of the activities (though any donations are welcome as 'we' can fit them in somewhere). To give everybody an idea of what can be won during this party:
- 1 oppressor weapon of the winner's choice (donated by Iceblue), will be handed out 'on air' to give everybody a chance of winning it.
- 1 'old skool' ghostly staff (donated by Death by an Arrow), will be handed out 'on air' to give everybody a chance of winning it.
- Workshop donation 'left overs', a wild assortment of items donated to the workshop that didn't find a place in the actual prizes for the workshop. But don't be fooled by the mental image of 'left overs' "Those that don't value the small, aren't worth the large" and "Some of the best things come in small packages"
- *wintersday surprize*, roughly amounting to 1.800.000 gold in value (actual value may change based upon market fluctuations), being handed out in various games, activities and as refreshments. A huge chunk outof "Arghore's party Warchest", and i don't like spoiling what can be won, join in on the various activities and find out

Hmm... I decided to do some insanely quick sketches of my ideas. What I wanted to do was a very 'simple' drawing of Nicholas the Traveler giving gifts to children in Tyria. I would like an opinion on Nicholas' clothes.
I wanted them similar to Katy Hargrove's Nicholas with Yakkington. Nevertheless, it looks as if he is wearing an unusual looking poncho. I'm thinking I might do it in pencil instead of digital, because I'm too lazy to pick up my pen tablet

Masking tape, plastic bags, and stuffing! That looks very nice. I would have never thought of using such simple material. It looks awesome so far! @Sura:
I would have loved to see what you could have done with your original. However, both of the new ideas look lovely. The children versions of gwen and thackery are too cute <3!@Iceblue: Nice use of watercolor pencils! I love the polar bears, the boy bear draws a lot of attention to the piece. It reminds me of a "Wish You Were Here" postcard. Awesome job!
@Valdis the Unmaker: Winter must end, I don't much like the cold
. Nice job I like details in his armor, specifically around the arm area. I do think his arms are a bit too large, but at the same time it strengthens the piece. It causes Grenth to look as if he is gradually reaching out at the viewer. Poor Dwayna...I like Lyssa anyway

Test quaggan is sewn. There are a few alterations to the pattern I need to make for the eventual final one but overall it seems ok. I dont think I have time to make a second proper one before the due date so this little guy will have to be my entry. Time to dress him up!

Valdis, Having Dwayna’a crown is very nice, very understated. I love the concept but I didn’t get it when I looked at the pic, is there any way of making it more distinct? I know you like the gore but perhaps less blood would be more coherent? I love the armour, particularly the skulls.

Well figured I should add an update since I have a reprieve from the craziness for a day.
I've been toying with background ideas, have done about 8 different test ones then trashed all the ones I really did not want to pursue further. Narrowed it down to 3 last night and decided to sleep on it.

OH DEAR i finished it (..so far)
I would like to fix some things which are annoying to me, but i've got still no time to fix it until deadline...
So the "final version" is officialy postet in the spoiler!
ATTENTION: Filesize is *huge* (about 100MB of Data)
and i was not able to build a working preloader - so please - if you want to take a look: take a cup of coffee and wait until the following side looks like the following image... (it takes about 30 seconds with my connection - Downstream=12Mbit/Sec)
Then all files should be loaded probably and you can click on the "play music button"...
Maybe i will be able to fix another issue (jumping animation phase after pressing the button) but i will not promise it.

personally i like option #1 best. what i don't like in #3 is that the shrubbery takes all the attention away from the cute kitty. It's so dark and has such a strong contrast to the bg that it feels like the focal point of the image. Either you should tone down the shrubbery a bit (and add snow on top or so) or bring the cat more to the front (value and contrastwise).

I more or less abandoned another idea, lol. This one http://surassketchblog.files.wordpre...sdaysketch.png. Well, i haven't really abandonded it, i will definitely finish it, but not for Wintersday. The main reason is that when i thought about a coloursceme i realised that i don't want to use wintery and cold colours
That leaves only the kid gwen and her friends idea
Left: Gwen and her friends building a snow man. I am not too happy with that sketch, it's boring and the characters kinda lost their cuteness (i think i missed the proportions). But i still like the idea (i want Thackery be all "Omg, it's GWEN <3" with red cheeks and such), so i will try to rework the sketch.
Right: This sketch is called: "Ebonhawke, Early Attempt". It shows Gwen having fun with her selfbuilt snow fort... so it's more a less a joke referencing whats going to happen in her life.... I hope it's somewhat funny? But i like the composition, it's much more energetic than the left one.

Been working on the quaggan decorations. Sewing on beads is slow work. The beads are gold but the flash makes that disappear.

Cleaned up some existing things, threw in some new things (still messy). Does that help the balance issues? I think it looks kinda random .... ugh.

I can see why you'd want earth tones for that piece, it's very organic in form. A cool scheme might be best saved for something more ridged/ aggressive. It's too bad we won't get to see it sooner
@Thisle yes, that form is quite long, but I'm sure it's for a good reason. So we'll all do our best to give a lot of thought when filling out.

So here's some sketchy lineart (I am so behind, I know).
Ignoring the stray marks... there's something up with Qing's face and I'm having a rotten time trying to fix it. I had trouble finding references for that weird angle of her head. Maybe once I've got the shading down it won't look so weird, but I can't help feeling it's more than just the jawline. (Gui needs to look more at her, too... ack)
Also, the top of the image is looking a little sparse, so I think putting in the wreath I talked about earlier would be a good idea... but I'm not entirely sure whether it should go behind Dwayna, or what.

I wouldn't worry about the upper part of the image, you can fill that with wall texture (wood paneling, log home style walls, brick, rock wall, wall paper, etc., with good shadows & highlights for ambiance will all take care of that).
For Qing's face, it looks as though her head is slightly too far forward - try angling the neck more upright - consider, when you're sitting and you look up and/or over at someone, you don't really crane your neck so much as just tilt your head up & to the side - the neck generally stays in an upright position.
Edit: I actually popped in to post this and forgot.
Rearranged the pic a bit, liking it much more now, just need to clean up & position some stuffs in front of the tree

Arkham City stole all the time I planned to do my entry today, damn you video games!
Hopefully I can figure out an idea and have it all sketched and pretty for tomorrow, and then painting can begin. I still have...plenty... of... time. x.x Doesn't help that I had a billion non-related art ideas I want to do now instead.
Kiya, that quaggan looks so intense. what do you have inmind for both your projects' submission pictures? Will they be togethor, or seperate?
Qing, thats looking nice! I feel like the position of her head isn't the problem but the position of her legs. Right now, her head and neck sort of look like she's peering over at the gift, and she looks greatly interested. However this conflicts with her bodys position, because she looks like shes more relaxed. Perhaps keeping her legs in that spot but shifting her torso and head over to the left might help her look like she's reaching as far as she can to take a peek at the box? Just rambling on here, feel free to take it or leave it if it doesnt make sense.
Obastable, that composition does look much better. The left side feels a little empty now, but it sounds like you've got that covered.

@Aero: Hummm... I can try. Any suggestions? The blood was supposed to be symbolic of the fact that Grenth has done away with Dwayna... :3
I can remove some of it, but the coloration on the robes and such isn't blood, it's just the color of the robes :]
Mmmm... Is there some sort of symbol directly related to Dwayna other than her headband thing that I could add in?

@ Qing. I think it is more of a body position and scale then a head thing. And maybe a view of a quarter of a wreath to fill that space?
@ Death. Two separate entries. The quaggan will be having a makeshift portrait session done, still working out the best way to display the diorama. It feels like it is missing something.
