Well... Awesome news Award prize list has been updated as I'm sure many of you have been eagerly awaiting

7 x Prize Package C: 1 Guild Wars Eye of the North game box

Oooh nice prizes. Must work harder....
Ok, grentch is starting to creep me out. The eyes are a bit iridescent but wont really show until after they get glazed. Might need to get some nail polish and touch them up too though. Later, must not get ahead of myself.
Boo!

What kind of texture do you think their skin would be? Scaly, leathery, short fuzzy fur?

Also, excited for those shirts. Damn I want one of those shirts.
... of course, the reindeer tonics are nice too. GUH anet; always bringing the best prizes.
Also; question: How do you determine the 'order' for picks for the RL prizes? You say they wont be assigned to categories (good idea) but instead people will get to pick them in order.
... what is this order, and how can I get to the first spot Is it like the traditional A-net way of Grand prize-->First-->Second-->Honourables? Or do you have some other wizardry in mind?
Edit: School distracted me again before I could remember to provide advice!
@Kiya That grentch looks SO awesome! Really like the wrinkles in the face, definetly feels very grentchy. What was the whole idea again for this? I seem to have missed that with all this real life stuff going on right now :|

Ahh I see now! I may have noticed better if I wasn't cramming right now D:
This weekend I won't actually be able to work on my painting I have planned before the workshop. So I may work on a sketch of that painting and then a sketch of my workshop entry so I can technically start entering.
That being said, I might get a sketch and then won't be able to work on it for... a while DX School is ending for the holidays so I have a bunch of tests, blame them not me!

Most of my tools are just regular household stuff (except for the clay rolling machine, which was a great little investment. Really saves your hands.) The things I use most often are a metal chopstick, some paring knives, toothpicks, quilting pin, scrapbooking scissors, the clay rolling machine, and a sheet of plexi so I can easily move my projects from one table to the next. And since necessity is the mother of invention (plus I am cheap and also hate driving to get anything) a lot of other things have been found useful like thimbles, mesh, bottles/lids, etc.

@kiya
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ I used altogether tools: Clay, Paper clips as wiring for grentches arms, legs and snowmen legs-wooden base stand to help grentches and snowmen stand up(THE snowmen wouldnt stand up properaly at all I called then drunkards lol, so I had to get my mom to hold one up with string you can see it in the picture the black string I would of used fishing line, but had none) Qutips lol I cut them to help make snowmen spikey. The wiring was most hard for the snowmen..omg so hard of the hands, Also used exacto knife...and best of all my hands ...BUT clay rolling machine sounds like heaven Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

@Sasultra: Thank you. Yeah, I figured there weren't much love going on in the shop, so I thought "Hey, wintersday is perfect for love and cuddling up next to one another" so I got that idea. And also to challenge myself; I rarely draw couples and when I do it's just ugly doodles in a notebook.

ah....others who should have been art instuctors (like my training)....use ANYTHING you can find that works----you would be AMAZED at the stuff in your kitchen that works soooo good for crafting/art type projects (and I have borrowed a few things when I was teaching )...and then a trip to the dollar store, or (my fav) the hardware store!
the work is going so well ....makes me want to get some of my old stuff out and make something!

Hi everyone,
I decided it was time to crawl out from onder the stone called Skyrim.
I made some crazy hours in there and have slept for only a few hours each night for the last two weeks and looking in the mirror makes me think I have contacted "Sanguinare Vampiris".
Although I saw this thread a week back, I haven't read anything yet and are totally clueless of who are participating (I'll get to that though).
So without any further ado:
☆Hey, Thistle! I want to participate in the workshop!☆
Name: Odinius
Idea for entry: Sleighrace DvsG
Art form type: Polymer Clay Sculpture(s)
Progress Gallery Link: http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...rkshop%202011/
^this was my 2010 idea but didn't make it last year

Ok, so I actually started working on my entry the other night, after a nice chat with Thistle inspired me to get off my butt and get going.
I must say, I haven't tried to draw anything other than stick people in about 8 years, and drawing in Photoshop with a mouse is a slow process (I really miss the hubby's old tablet).
Nonetheless! I have made progress, and said progress is currently uploading to Flikr. When I get back later I'll actually link it up & explain WTF I'm trying to do. Hahahah!

Plan for tomorrow is more definition of muscles, adding fur, texturizing, and hat.

ZOMG real-life-prizes!! Sad to admit I've slacked off this week, largely due to my sudden overwhelming urge to play Mechcommander 2 due to RTS withdrawal over the past few years of GW-addiction. Nevertheless I'm committing myself for the moment to cartoon-izing Togo's face at an appropriate size in what's left of my space. I'll probably scrap it later for a slightly smaller gwen-head and better proportions. For the time being that super-huge-head/eyes -feeling is the ultimate goal, and I've found that one sometimes has to overdo it in order to bring it back down to the right size.
@Thanatos: Excellent step. It's definitely coming to look much more realistic now (even though "realistic" doesn't quite apply to the comical exaggerated Gaki's face ). I still wonder, though, if both the scene through the window and the things in stockings should be out of focus more, or if it's possible to bring the treelights, brick and woodwork, and wall sconce closer to the stockings' level of focus? I don't know digital art very well but from a freehand-artist's perspective they still don't seem 100% believable.
@Marshmallow: I'm secretly jealous of your superior ability at cuteness ...no but seriously, you've got a supreme talent for the chibi stuff peeking at your other gallery pieces. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, definitely. Those baby gods themselves will probably melt.
@Valdis: Haven't seen progress in your gallery yet, actually, but I'm looking forward to it since of course it's the patron god of my main necro character.
@Draken: Secretly jealous of ambidexterity >.< . Cool fur detail, keep up the great work.
@Morag: Don't reveal another update for the moment, yet. Seriously. You've got a great thing going and as soon as we see that Tiffany-style coloring you're gonna blow our minds. Take your time and do the face justice and I think the whole thing will just fall into place after that. Softness softness softness. . .
@Koreena: I'm wigging out at the rapid progress . That thing is going to look as beautiful as it is ugly, no doubt.
I'm starting to think it's even uglier than it is beautiful, but I am impressed
@SasUltra: I actually did think that the artistically-colored frames were pretty interesting as a separate entity from the photos you took. I do no, however, think it's a good idea to frame all together several shots from roughly the same angle with slightly different coloring or special effects. Here's my thoughts on how you could progress from here (yes, there is progression possible): this to me looks like a great opportunity to do like a little mock comic book page complete with dialogue and narration. Throw in a snowball-explosion here or there and you can do some seriously cool things with cropping close-ups, photoshop coloring, show off some creative writing, and still be able to use a (nearly) undoctored photo as the base of at least one frame. Totally believable as a drawing in my honest opinion. Anyways, that's what my mind settled on when I took another closer look at the old photoshopped frames.

There's 4 pics up there, which I think I renamed in the wrong order, but whatever. I've barely been home the past 36 hours, have more antibiotics in me than any person would want, and I have had 4 hours of crap sleep with an IV stuck in my hand.
So I started with a white blob vaguely in the shape of a cat and have erased/blended/smudged/blurred/etc/etc/etc nearly 30 different shades of white, blue, pink, and gray to create the image thus far.
I've said it before & I'll say it again. I cannot draw. HOWEVER, I was pro at coloring when I was a kid. You know that kid in your class that you envied in grade 2 because their pictures were always so awesomely colored?? Yeah, that was me.
It's a long process to "draw" something via layers of shading but it usually comes out pretty darned cool.
Earlier this eve, and not posted yet, I fine tuned the ears a bit (3 more layers), added some color to the eyes (4 layers), added the nose (4 more layers) & worked on something else ... (5 layers so far). Photoshop is on the hubby's computer & he's home/awake so I can't tinker and/or take a screenie to post up this evenings progress yet.
Still to do: FUR!, background, foreground, the something else, and check out everyone elses WIP (I feel like such a poop head for not having done that yet).

Love the Grentch - I often used tinfoil shaped by hand to make textures I need. Or, I will use needles, toothpicks, and other things for detail work. Also, of course, clear nail polish for eyes and glossy bits! =D

I never thought of that to be honest and it`s a great idea and I like to experiment with it my only issue is I don`t have photoshop or any good editing programs. I have been using paintshop-photobucked for editing .
Do you have any advise where I can get free good editing program. and Thank you for your feedback

WB Odinious. Looking forward to seeing your piece. I already hate Skyrim, it is like invasion of the body snatchers, everyone has disappeared!

Gimp. It's totally free, comes with most of the features Photoshop has (well, within limits, but still good freeware) and there are lots of tutorials on their website
@ Find&Seek: olol that Grawl santa is totally awesome XD brought me right back to the the good old days!

@ Minami: nice to hear your fella is well! yayay Metallica!
@ obastable: that cat looks really nice! I think it's great that it's all fluffy and fuzzy and hugable! I think you can be quite vague with the detailing of the fur, as long as you define the eyes, nose, mouth and ears quite well - that's where your focus is. good going!

Hi everyone!
Like I said in my first post, I scribbled around a little to get some ideas... well, here's what I ended up with:
I would like to know which one you prefer... right now I like the first one more, but that's mostly because the sketch simply looks better. I think if I fix up some things the second image can look positively EPIC!
@Koreena:
Nice work so far! I'm digging those ears, they are so smooth! Makes me want to touch them (doesn't matter that the little rascal would prob try to chomp my finger off :P) I'm wondering though, is the material you are using somewhat flexible? If so, you should adjust the pose a little, because right now he looks as if he's sitting on an invisible chair! Or of course you could sit him down on a huge present or some stupid adventurer's corpse (whatever the little guy prefers ) instead of trying to change the posture... unless that has been your plan all along?
Cheers
