@ Ferocious Thanatos. The tonic on the window sill and the bow on the gift don't seem to fit/blend into the picture properly. I think the tonic is too far forward and the lighting doesn't seem right on it. The bow is so much crisper it seems off. Maybe blur some of the edges of it?
@ Sasultra. The pictures are so small its really hard to see what your entry is. There really needs to be a much larger main picture that shows off your sculptures.
----------
Still cant decide what I want to do.
1) Plushies. I've done this so many times before, but they are cute and cuddly and it is something I know I can do.
2) Polymer clay stuff. I dont think I have a unique enough idea yet.
3) Wintersday quilt. Havent nailed down exactly what it would look like yet, just that it would be cool to do.
4) Dwayna's Regalia. Delicious coconut chocolate chip oatmeal cookies were my downfall this month. I dont think I am skinny enough to pull this outfit off well, but I really like it.

@Sasultra: If you still have the sculpture (which you ought to since you made it) you can take new pictures, if your mother's camera is broken (I know you said formatted, which does not mean broken) you still have plenty time to borrow one from friends/family.

If you hit download image on my deviant art page IT`S HUGE I love it

Hum, I was originally planning on keeping the background plain, but that IS a nice idea.
I'm actually intending to make it poster sized, so if I feel like it, I'll print it and put on my walls (I have nothing on my walls, which is odd since I'm an artist...)

Well.. I don't think I'll be able to finish my drawing.
Fell off a ladder while painting some door frames inside the house and sprained my wrist. Had to be my right one too. ><..Karma. First my bird chews and breaks the cable to my tablet so no digital work. Decide to go traditional and this happens.
I could try doing it left handed I guess but I know it's going to turn out god awful.
This saddens me.
P.S. Typing with one hand sucks. XD If I don't manage to get SOMETHING done. Good luck to everyone else!

Name:Starfleck Almighty
Idea for entry:The Joy of Receiving
Art form type:traditional hand painting
Progress Gallery Link:http://imageshack.us/g/256/pict0020q.jpg/
Starting out with my sketch sheet. Today I started sketching full size on my drawing board rather than printer paper but it's too light to see anything yet. Also, my usual camera is broken so I'm making do with a 3mp one from, like, 2003.
still a few mistakes with the lines that need fixing, but I'm quite happy with it so far

@Starflek: I agree with the chorus; the expression on gwen's face is priceless. ^^ Though I wonder how much cc you want?
*feels a bit mean about pointing out things to improve on without permission to do so*
If either one of you entrees want some hard on CC, I am ready to give you some hard dedicated ones, but I don't feel comfortable just critting everyone like I'm some kind of diva :<

Hehe, thx Sas ^_^
Lol sorry Draken, didn't even really think about it. I'm just picturing now being at the height where I couldn't reach the top of a doorframe off my feet, but it doesn't really compare, since I'm 6' and in construction, drywall mainly but also painting. I can imagine that alone would be frustrating
@Gemini: I'm going to be looking for more constructive criticism as I get further along, for now I mainly want to know if it's a funny concept, gwen is recognizable enough, and approx. how much of the space should be filled with each of the following: gwenface, present, giver, background. At the moment I'm roughing it on my full size sketch about 30:25:20:40 -ish, respectively. 30% of the pic being taken up by just that face too imbalanced?

Im with you Gemini - since art is so subjective, I tend to not like being a critic, since MY impression and opinion might be very different than the one the artist is trying to convey!
I myself like to just sit back and see how things turn out - I could always offer opinions, but, I just kind of like seeing how things develop! Particularly when something is new, or just in the beginning stages - since alot can change!
I DO love how people here are very kind however, and a big thanks to everyone whos had comments on Mr Yak! LOL This is certainly a friendly place, even with the critiquing - it manages to stay fun, friendly and welcoming when that COULD on many forums NOT be fun. Great job to those who mod, and to the members who contribute for being all around nice folks. =)

Well what I can tell you, having gone through 12 years of arts-focused schools and a semester of drawing & painting at a university, is that it's always acceptable to give criticism on technical aspects, and to tell your side of the story from a viewer's perspective.
Technical skill level is actually relevant to an artist. I know for a fact that I can paint pretty realistically, however if My Goal doesn't suit that type of painting, then I won't do it that way. Being able to use an appropriate level of detail and realism across the piece is something an artist has either learned from school or practice, or they're skill level isn't there yet (visionary of course, but not technically able to pull off their vision). You can tell me I'm not a digital artist, and it's true, and I wouldn't be the least bit offended. My medium is different because I work better with my hands.
So, as far as I can tell, here are two things the artist does, in fact, want to know from you:
1. After having given a fair view to the piece are you aware of the message, if there is a message, or the general purpose of it? (this encompasses focus and purpose, the ability of the piece to hold your eye/attention long enough to convey it, and the message's relevance to other people. The artist's take is clear to the artist, but they need to hear from you what you saw)
2. Do things seem to be on the same level of completion, is the whole work balanced, and is it visually interesting (composition)? Basically, the technical stuff.
In other news, @Tee Wrex: I think the yak is super cute ^_^. Details are spot on for being such a tiny sculpture, which is very appropriate, and does yakkington good justice for how complex the in-game model is. I think at this point you could call it complete, honestly, but if you wanted to you could detail the santa hat a bit and, theoretically (although uncalled for) keep working on depth of color in the fur/bags/barrels to bring in more grain and complex colors.
Also, @Thanatos: I have to agree that the things in stockings aren't rendered right. They are out of the depth of field so they really need to be blurred like the stone fireplace. Aside from that, it's also a bit unclear whether the gaki is actually holding the boxers or they're floating, but it's awesome for colors, composition, humor, proportions, density, and consistency of detail.
and @Gemini: Very nice concept. I'm dying to see how it develops because you've already got a good looking composition and a killer starting point.

@Draken: Ouch, sorry to hear! That sucks big time :/ Hope you'll get better soon!!
@Kiya: Knowing how cute your sculptures are (and your plushies too), I'd say go with either of those...
Of course, Dwayna's Regalia looks amazing, and with your uber cosplay skills, I'd like to see it being done!
Waaah, sorry, but I can't choose either You're so good at all those things you listed ^_^
Why not make ALL the arts? *hides*

Let's just say I didn't see JuSa's draft. Looked so similar to what I've been planning, though my idea doesn't include Melonni or a gift, but instead a snowflake. It looked very nice, though
Nice setting you have going on, Starfleck! You said you'd be changing some stuff in it, so in my opinion you should make the gift-giving person's head a bit bigger in the final product. Other than that I'm eager to see this develop
Sasultra, you did a great work there with the sculpture!

LOL The Santa hat is fabric! Not sculpted at all. I swiped it off an elf as a last minute afterthought to a few pics. =)
But I hear ya - they don't make many options for Santa hats when it comes to miniature Yaks though! (And I lack the patience to sew my own!)

Finally had time for a little progress :]
fixed the hair and started the linework... I'm doing the lines with vectors, but I'm not yet sure whether I'll be saving myself any time with that, having to be so exact. But on the other hand, no cleaning up linearts afterwards which is a bonus. Ah well, committed now :P

Gemini, that’s a nice start. I was shocked to hear you have nothing on your walls ^^
Draken, so sorry to hear about your wrist.
Kiya, ooh a quilt sounds interesting too.
Starfleck, I love the title and yes, the expression on Gwen’s face
Morag, that’s looking good. I prefer the hair this way.
