Mass Error 007
Dayquil
There are ppl in pre doing the countdown reset thing now too. Prolly just have someone in post doing it, but its happening here too
chaosincarnate87
anyone else notice it is also showing that people who have been dc'd (i don't know if it HAS to be by you, but in my case they were) on your friends list are displayed as in towns and instances they had been in HOURS previous to the disconnect and current area they're in?

If they do a roll back, I hope they don't do it too far back. I maxed my wisdom title recently.

Nothing a server rollback cant fix. |
I edited my post but you might've not seen it:
On another thought, yes, it is "upsetting" (too strong of a word, but I can't think of another one at 11 pm when my native language is not English

I care about what affects other people, hence my disdain over these happenings.
I am not furious, as trolls would like people to feel, simply annoyed for other people's sake.
I would have liked to talk to my friend over team chat while trying to sell my pumpkin cookies, or spam my party points. I'll just do it all over again tomorrow, no big deal.

My experience is different. It stopped showing all my friend's locations alltogether.

I managed to get a ss of someone doing an accurate countdown. Didnt get it the first time, but I did the 2nd time, which was <1min after the first. Would that help any guru admins or whatever at all?

Da Kenster
Looks like people are taking advantage and trying to score on the reset records lists.

Maybe we'll get to see another mass Dhuum for all the troublemakers :3

If Anet needs them, I'm sure they'll ask.
Although I'd imagine it's kind of easy to track down people who did this by looking at the logs.
Krazy Kat
Looks like it's fixed temporarily. Observer mode has been disabled.
Linksys
If you were annoyed by the people doing this on purpose in Kamadan or anywhere, no need to be embarrassed or feel like you were trolled. It's understandable.

Iv known this bug for awhile. Cause I got freaked out once, when I watching HA match and wanted to go to Guild Hall and all of sudden got d/ced and when I login, all my characters were wiped. When I log back out and back in they were there.
Linksys
OMG that would freak me out too. That's worse than seeing a flyer on my windshield but first thinking it's a parking ticket.

Avatar Exico

So I am already hearing from a few people if you opened a birthday present or coffer of whispers or similiar items and didn't get a good item you could do the DC to get it back. It seems they shutdown the observer mode for the moment so it no longer works but makes me wonder how many armbraces and what not were created through this method in the one hour window...

Gaile Gray posted in the Guild Wars Support Forum:
We are aware of the exploit and have taken Observer Mode offline. We will re-enable the system once we have ascertained that the exploit is no longer an issue.
Thank you for your reports, and thank you also for your patience as we complete the work we need to do to close the exploit and deal with those who abused it.
P.S. Using an exploit results in account termination.

The bigger question is what in fact happened in that HA match that messed up the whole observer mode if that was the cause.

Already starting to think its very possible for people to have been duping by Trading item to second account>Having second account log off>DCing and semi rollbacking First account.

I don't see how they can call the crashing an exploit at all since it didn't do anything out of the ordinary that players do when they try to observe a match. I think most people would call it crappy design that an intended feature is broken.

And for those upset with the actions of certain individuals, Gaile also posted this:
If anyone happened to notice someone taunting or threatening other players with this exploit, I’d very much appreciate if you send me their name(s) via Private Message. Please do not post them here. And please be aware that before any action is taken on any account, we will fully verify that person’s involvement.
Thank you.
Further FYI.

Most likely if what I think actually works, we'll find out tomorrow if there's an increase in Rare Minis being sold off or stacks of ectos/arms causing a lot of deflation.

I did go into Observe mode and disconnected myself by selecting the HoH match and trying to observe it. I didn't know at that point that I would disconnect the whole Embark Beach district I was in. I thought I would only disconnect me directly and was curious. I had no mischief or malicious intent. I thought the mass disconnects were related but not directly caused by someone using the Observe feature. Then I found out it was and didn't do it again.
SunfallE
I'm just glad they finally stopped it since it was annoying as frick to constantly get dc'd.
tenderpoison
Was in FA earlier and same thing happened there too. And there was a guy counting to next dc and saying he figured out how he can't avoid being dc'd.
Elnino
Funny that today is the gvg zquest day and all the sync guilds have been exposed thanks to the ladder reset.
Gabs88
TBH i don't think duping happened. I think it's a lot more realistic that a ton of items were lost then the other way around
Avatar Exico
glad this finally got resolved, it was annouying to watch PvP matches and dc. Freak out that all your characters were wiped. I was wondering if create character when all your characters got wiped, wondering if did that lost all your characters that would soo stink.

But do consider our perspective: Commonly, the first thing that a guilty person says is, “I was just testing it!” Next most common are, “You guys closed it before I had a chance to report” or, of course, “Someone else was on my account.” I don’t mean to make light of using an exploit. It really is a serious issue for us, and we take it extremely seriously. As of tonight, players have been banned and many more will be banned over the next couple of days. Please give us some time to sort this out. Thanks. |

If you hear about an exploit, tell us via any means on the contact Support page. (Obviously, you shouldn’t post an exploit in the forums.) At the very least, PM us here, although a ticket or email is preferable. And please stop speculating on what will happen to those who “tested” the exploit. That matter remains in the hands of ArenaNet and NCsoft, and it doesn’t serve any purpose to use this official forum as a hotbed of speculation and guesswork. I am closing this thread. Please do not start a new one on this or any related subject. Thank you. |
So let me translate what is actually going to happen based on the mirage of a public relations employee trying to make punishment sound more severe.
Accounts will be terminated but only if you openly admitted you were doing the crash such as the people doing count downs or demanding ecto to stop.
The reality is they don't know who did it because it may have been a hard crash with no tracing or even worse case scenario if you ban anyone who did it what happens to the people who were tricked into it or who actually tried to watch the HA match.
So the end result is this if you openly admitted to doing it and someone took an ss of you doing such act you have either already been banned or will in the next few days.
TL;DR Version:
They are only going to ban the people who openly admitted to the exploit and got reported.
Gabs88
TBH I think they may end up banning a lot more and then do the complaints later.
PurpleFission
Well personally i hope noone gets banned >.>........................

When I did the crash once, thinking it would only affect me, I went back to the district I was in and found out the whole district got disconnected. I explained it was me and that I didn't know that would happen. I thought the mass disconnections were from some server or observer mode overload or something. I didn't think it was directly triggered by someone going into observer mode. When I found out by asking the district what happened, then I knew and I didn't do it again.
Anyways, for those who purposefully did this, I think a suspension would be better than a ban.

Awesome, I missed the whole thing so I guess I'm safe.
Yes, people can be totally stupid so this will always be the "knee jerk reaction". The onus really comes back to the company that made the product, to ensure that if this(or any other possible issue) was to happen there would be no ill effects to the end user. That is what product testing is for, isn't it? I agree with banning people who "exploited" the situation, but Anet has to take some responsibility here, don't they?
Just my 2 cents.
