A New Look for GuildWars.com
Kimaru De Lefent
Get ready, because within the next few weeks you're going to see some major improvements to the Guild Wars website! We're working on some big changes behind the scenes that will result in a sleek, shiny new GuildWars.com. This redesigned site will feature an updated appearance and an improved layout, but most importantly, it will help you stay up to date on everything that's happening in the Guild Wars game and community. See you soon on the new website!

I hope for the better...til now, that site has been of little or no use at all...
Sagittario
It needs an update desperately.

I wonder if this have something to do with:

I don't think people will be much surprised with a website style change...I suspect hardly anyone will care.
Star_Jewel
Well, we know they're integrating web interactivity with some aspects of GW2 -- they might be spreading some of their ideas over to GW and its site. That's the only reason I can see doing a site overhaul at this stage.
Skyy High
I wonder if they're planning on keeping GW2 and GW1 websites separate, or if they're going to merge them...

"This redesigned site will feature an updated appearance and an improved layout, but most importantly, it will help you stay up to date on everything that’s happening in the Guild Wars game and community." - ok, nothing to see here.
Reverend Dr
Are they finally taking the hero battle ladder off the front page?

new websites are always exciting for a few hours c:
cosyfiep
that site is almost completely useless....I dont think a change will help it either.
YAWN.
YAWN.
StormDragonZ
Good for the website, but they still can't allow me to change the visual background seen while entering my username, password and character name?
SLIGHTLY DOES NOT CARE.

I can't even remember the last time I go to that site. Although I do understand that they want to update GW1 due to GW2, I hope they fix something else in GW1.

Well in the latest GW2 blog, "Building Community," Martin officially announced that there will be official forums for both GW and GW2 and that they will be trending away from the "traditional fansite program." So can only guess that official forums will be the biggest change to the website.
AngelWJedi
so basically nothing special it seems

Who knows what they 'expect' but a brand new forum for a brand new game is not that strange. Maybe they believe it will be easier to find for new / casual players, it might even be reachable from within the game, like the wiki.
Don't worry, they'll likely be better at managing / moderating it then Bioware was with their ToR forum; it's just not possible to do it any worse.

For a brand new game, that obviusly makes sense. I was taking more about gw than gw2 though, that's why my perplexity. Obviosly they thought "we made 30, let's make 31".

So...they expect the community to move from fansite forums to the official ones after 7 years?? I mean, those forums already have all the guides, a sort of community, all that's been built slowly through the years...how could a brand new forum be considered at this point?

Most people aren't the people that come to fan sites like this. Most people will end up at the official forums for GW2 if they visit a forum at all for things other than update notes etc. Heck, most people just ask in game, "Hey, what changed with the update?" Most people in MMO's can't even be bothered to read the patch notes that are attached to a game's launcher for crying out loud.

Im Excited, can't wait!

It's been almost two weeks since the announce and nothing else has been mentioned or changed from what I can tell so much for over the next few weeks like they stated.

Hi everyone, We've just announced the launch of the redesigned guildwars.com website. We'd like you to know that much of the old content on all versions of the GuildWars.com websites (that is: www/eu/de/fr/es/it.guildwars.com) will be deleted once the new website is launched by the end of March. We thought we’d give the wiki community some advance notice regarding the retirement of this legacy content so that those who are interested have the opportunity to archive the material if they wish. Thanks. |
Not exactly official, but I figured that's not a place most people look for information so I should post it here.

A few weeks can be up to 3-4 weeks. Since the definition of few is " Being more than one but indefinitely small in number"
cosyfiep
well, we can only hope they keep their timeline---we know from the past that things dont always work out the way they are planned (new chapter every 6 months, monthly updates, etc)....so
we shall see.
we shall see.

They could even make it, for once: I believe the new website was commissioned...

Just replace Blizzard with ANet and maybe soon with "few weeks" lol.
This basically applies to all mmo companies they seem to be horrible with time lines.

MithranArkanere
Nah. With ANet isn't "Soon", it's "When it's done".
They may tell other dates, but that's always a mistake, because n the end, it's always "When it's done".

Doesn't look like they're going to make it within March, although they do have 4 hours remaining...
Where'd you hear that, that it was commissioned that is? |
So, well, I suppose it is, since that's how it's usually done.

It would be nice to see a first party "argosoft"-style interface. With market tracking and such.
Maybe a new "Quiet Isles" outpost with an all chat that is linked between that outpost and a web chat as well?
Or ally chat if you log in?
Or the Marketplace?
Or auctions??
or..

Any word on the new site?
nuclear_herring
Just checked - it doesn't look much different to me.
But then my last visit was 6 months ago and by accident.

gee, go figure----maybe they really did mean march of 2013? 2014???
Lordkrall
Or maybe they wants to add stuff that turned out to be hard to implement?
See, this is why ArenaNet never should announce anything before they actually release it. Because all they get is whine if something unexpected happens.

One can always read into the current facts and surmise that it'll be done when it's done?
Who knows, maybe it's not even ArenaNet's fault? Like Gill said, it's possible their Web Developers out-sourced some/a lot of the work and are waiting to implement for reasons unknown. Meaning, and all together now, that it'll be done when it's done?

Perhaps we should be taking bets on what gets done and released first - GW2 or the website.

I wager 50 quatloos that the first GW2 BWE will begin before the new website is completed.

The incoming 7th Anniversary seems a perfect date for this redesign. But honestly I don't know what's there to be excited about, I'm more worried and saddened about the loss of all old content. For the sake of nostalgia I love to browse the old old stuff there, many don't remember or know it dates back as early as mid-2003!
Here, have some nostalgia, while it's still there:
