HoM This, HoM That!
Omar Charrbane
Seriously, almost everything posted now is about "how to HoM fastest way possible!?"
What about the rest of the game and stuff?
Is anyone still enjoying GuildWars and not just grinding mindlessly for GW2?

I mindlessly goof off and sit around and do nothing in game, basically using the game as a fancy chat client for the most part.
From time to time, I help friends/random people with missions/vqs/whatever and help look for Nick or confirm his location on Mondays, so yes, people are doing things other than grinding for GW2 in game.

I'm sure that anyone you ask who is new to the franchise would choose to play GW2 over GW. The only reason then that they might buy GW is to get HoM rewards for GW2 before it comes out.
People who have already played GW have, as you might expect, already played GW. The only thing to do once you're done with that is quit, or work towards filling your HoM and then quit.
It's really all about the HoM, unless you don't care about GW2, in which case you're playing something else entirely anyways.

some of us still play this game with no regards for the hom (beyond it being a 'goal')...I plan to continue playing gw long after gw2 comes out as I wont be capable of playing it and my hubby's computer wont be able to play it either.
I still enjoy playing guildwars...I recently even got another account and am enjoying playing thru prophecies again!
BUT
most people are set on playing a NEW game so the benefits that this one can offer for that one are what people are focusing in on...and its quite understandable as guildwars is over 7 years old now ---people like new stuff every few years and we are already past that for this one.
so yeah, expect Hom craze for the rest of the spring, summer and possible into the fall (or whenever they decide to put out gw2--and a weee bit beyond that)....then things will return to 'normal' here

I just got my HoM over 30 points, after sitting in the mid-20s for months because I want to savor each accomplishment. Once it's filled (with GWAMM seeming to be reached alongside), I won't have many goals to strive for... I've had the resources to have 50/50 (or close to it) for a while, but I'm purposely dragging it out. So although I am looking forward to GW2, I still enjoy GW and am not all about grinding the HoM as fast as possible.

That's the bottom line - the majority of new players only bought GW because of all the hype surrounding GW2. (Lots of "I've never heard of GW until they started promoting GW2" comments going around.) And they probably wouldn't have bought GW if they couldn't benefit from it in GW2 (see all of the "Is it too late to start playing GW?" threads)
Plus, you've got alot of old-timers who spent all their time "just playing the game" - leveling characters, doing elite areas, playing strictly PvP, etc. There's also the old-timers who left the game long ago and are back playing because of the shinies they can earn for GW2.
There's nothing wrong at all with the shift from "just playing the game" to playing in preparation for the release of GW2. I know several people who have hit 50/50 and reverted back to "just playing the game." But I know of even more who have gotten as far as they want with the HoM (30/50, usually) and then moved on to / back to other games while waiting for GW2.
Gotta take the good with the bad. So be happy that the active GW population has grown a bit over the last year or so, and remember that a LOT of what people are doing to fill their HoMs is playing the game.

Yes,I prefer to play GW

Got 50/50 and GWAMM but I still play. Helping people (for hom or not), do some SC for fun, kill some bots in JQ. Im not into things that's too serious tho. More casual, more relax, more real life.

All I have left are:
1. Sell Oppressor weapons and zcoins to re-buff up my gold stashes to prepare for 9-rings again during Dragon Festival.
2. Do some RA pvp for Gladiator title.
3. Clear UW
4. chest runs?
5. create new characters and start all over again.
Absolute Destiny
I've got a LDoA-in-training, who will have the entire expanse of GW to play around in for potentially years to come.
...after I spend X-amount of years GETTING him to LDoA.

Also, by the time you've gotten 50/50, you've played one heck of a lot of the game.

Initially, I cared about building my HOM up, now, after seeing what GW2 is, I could care less and have happily gone back to just playing the game.
I have no intention of buying GW2.

Porkchop Sandwhiches
I'm going back to what I did before HOM - mindless killing people in FA/JQ and RA. Oh, I miss AB though.
EPO Bot
I could finish HoM by buying 30 minis and a few more weapons, but it's too much of a chore.
GhostKairi
Simple, after 7 years, HOM is the only thing left to do for me. 49/50 with only 2-3 titles needed to complete. Its nearly game over for me xD
superraptors
im still hunting that elusive perfect magmas...after that i will quit for sureeee
A Lucky Cat
Well, I do admit that my main goal is HoM. But I quite enjoy guild wars, and will continue playing it even after my HoM is complete

To be honest, I never cared for HoM that much. I filled it for kicks and giggles before the HoM update, and it was at 42 or 43/50 when the update came. All I had to do was add Oppressor weapons, some heroes and like couple of minipets and I was done. Never bothered that much with it and I never understood what people's problems with it were. I even got everything done before I started farming DoA to make fortune. I had 50/50 when I began doing that, so I did it without thousands of ecto's in my bank to fund my money titles. Albeit, doing it that way took me like a year because I was pretty bad at the time, but still, I never had more than 800k in my bank at any time. Most of the time it was around 300k.

not true, so many people are rushing through content to get to GWAMM that they have forgotten there's a story behind the game. How many people know there's a portal that connects Elona to the Crystal Desert?
FalconDance
Some us still play - after nearly the full 7 years . But other commitments keep us from being in-game much.

So many people are rushing their posts, having not researched just what goes into getting 50/50 or GWAMM and forgotten that there are actual activities behind titles.

I turned off every chat. Well, except when i trade. Everything i see in chat is : '' OMG GW2 IS AWSUM, GW SUCKS GW2 BETTER, GW2 GW2 GW 2 GW2!!!!!!!!!! ''

I was just playing Guild Wars, up until last month or so, but it's about time I got my ass into gears and started working towards that 50/50 (and also GWAMM) like all my Guildies got years ago before they quit the game.
About the only real obstacle to me getting it now is basically earning about 2000k from somewhere for the consumable titles though. Then I'll be all set. Just got to where I'am now by casually playing for fun over the past 7 years or so.

Oh, well, you do fill your HoM by doing mostly everything you can do in GW, excepting secondary quests, bonus missions and Beyond content.
So filling the HoM is mostly playing GW.
Now, there may be others things you can do that won't fill the HM, like farming or consecutive speedclears in the same location (excepting the locations that may provide resources to get HoM weapons, armors and hero armors).
But that isn't really playing GW the way it's supposed to be played, so it doesn't matter.

People who pick up Guild Wars over the last few months probably don't know the nice little tips and tricks about the game. They just rush the content.

I came back for HoM on my Ele main and stopped at 15/30. It just felt too grindy and I wasn't having fun as I rushed through content pushing for goals. So I started playing my 12 War I hadn't touched in ages and continued through ascension just because he was fun to play!

Beside that (my wife and) I certainly enjoy the GW1 storyline. We have just created two new characters and want to play through all campaigns as a team.

I still enjoy playing GW1, occasionally, but it's just not the same as when I had external goals to shoot for.

My goal is to have fun. So 8/50 and 16/50. Still need to do a lot of fun stuff like guardian. Otherwise it's "kurzicks have better monk healbotters because they have purge conditions" jq

I think you have a distorted view of the state of the game from these forums, at this point,
the forums are pretty threadbare.
People that have been playing have simply run out of things to talk about, so the only thing
you see are the posts on HoM stuff since that's still somewhat new and "allowed".
I've seen so many people post questions or comments about topics that have already been
discussed, just to have their heads bitten off or their post unceremoniously closed because
they didn't use "search". I'm surprised anyone posts at all.
It's a lot like logging on to the game and judging it by what you see in Lion's Arch, For
every babbling teenager you see there, their are probably 2-300 people in instances actually
playing the game that you'll only catch a passing glimpse of.
I still play most every day for varying amounts of time. I do work on HoM goals. But I also
jump into PUGs here and there, join guild activities, and do things that are a challenge to
me.
So... yeah... we still play.

I get what almost everyone here is saying, especially the last 6 or so posts. I've only been playing for about 2.5 years so alot of things are still new and exciting to me. It was still nice getting people's thoughs.

The most enjoyable part of GW1 is to buy a new character slot and start creating a new character from scratch to re-live that enjoyment again. Yes, I choose to spend my money on GW1 rather than GW2.
I am working on my account-based titles on the side but I don't play as much any more. My son, on the other hand, is having a lot of fun with his new NF necro.

This is pretty much the single reason why I've been keeping it up. I pretty much grew tired of the game 3 years ago, but never quit, because I enjoyed this form of "company" so much.
Now that is pretty much gone for me. People I liked the most to play with don't play anymore, the few remaining contacts I've had in my friend list in the last few years have all been disappointments, so I pulled the plug myself.
