I was thinking the same thing, though they say it will happen every year now.
I was planning on converting a bunch before hand just in case I need a few new hero weapons.

(It would be so much easier to stack then in one slot then buy a ton of weps and put them in storage until y can get mods for them. Also easier to sell Blessings of War then a particular weapon since the buyer can choose what they want).

they said that the blessings will drop from the zaishen chest (every 25 drops will yield 1 blessing) so I am asssssuming that the collector will be around as well (otherwise there will be a load of unhappy zrank folks with blessings they cant use for a full year).

I went out to wiki and the Blessing of War page had a note at the bottom that read:
BUG: Blessings of War obtained from opening the Zaishen Chest do not stack with the ones obtained by exchanging Proofs of Legend.
I hope that still means the Weapons guys see them as the same and it is just a stacking problem. Hope ANET didn't screw up.

GW2 has those weapons for some time already, so the balthazar weapons are new to GW, but not that new to GW2, reallife friend showed me
at least, i saw it last weekend, but guess they werent for 1 game only
lets wait for more GW2 skins going into GW
and probably the other way around, hehe.... let them have something from our greatest game of all time
its just too bad pve didnt get upgradeable weapons with different skins, instead of the greenies what we have now, weapons with an extra thing..... and without "only at events" but still for pve only
before i get a "thats overpowered" to my head, i give a "then dont use it" to those
lets hope they'll change that next year, that'd be nice

hm.....I got the free one I got at the beginning (from already having the storage pane) to stack with the one from the zaishen chest, but those would not stack with the ones from the weapon npc....no idea why they dont stack together since the balthazar guy will take either one.
edit: so I tried to trade them to my alt account to see if they would stack then, nope, they stayed 2 separate stacks. gee a bug, go figure (we hope its only a bug-----)

while that is an issue, it is ok.
so after it was over I took my 2 stacks (at 2 separate times) to the balthazar npc weapons guys--and they would take either. Also noted that the weapons guy is still at embark beach as well (or at least he was the last time I checked a few hours ago). So it looks like you can still exchange proof as well as using the blessings --either of them.

You first post in NOT correct...you can still get blessings from the weapons guy in embark beach. I just did this ...today to make sure. I traded him my 5 proofs and I got a blessing.
So you are STILL able to trade proofs (5) to the ancient weapons npc in embark for blessings. So opening the zaishen chest is NOT the only way to obtain them.

Right cosyfiep, so as you can't get proof of legends anymore, it means that it would only remain to be available in embark for those who have not turned their proofs into Blessings of War after the event.
Thus makes opening the Zchest the only way to still get them if you already have spend all the remaining Proof of Legends you had, post event.

It would be amazing if we get new weapons every year. Idc if they need to put them into GW2 to make them want to make em for GW1 as well, that's fine with me. But it would be real cool to have some new weapons each year(the gold ones, not greens), would make things a bit exciting.

and weapons with other weapon's skins is also alot of fun..... wish they were blue and upgradeable, though

I didn't participate last year and read up on the proof of legend stuff having just returned to the game a month ago.
In reference to the wiki article (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Proof_of_Legend) and what has been discussed here, I think Raisu Palace / Kaineng City regions are still bugged.
I had completed 7 missions from 7 supposedly different regions and when I check my inventory I had 6 proofs of legends.
1. Great Northern Wall (Ascalon)
2. Iron Mines (Shivepeaks)
3. Sanctum Cay (Kryta)
4. Zen Daijun (Shign jea Island)
5. Tahnnakai Temple (Kaineng City)
6. Ruins of Morah (The Desolation)
7. Raisu Palace (Raisu Palace)
So after some digging I read up on the bug from last year and I decided to do Imperial Sanctum. Only after completing that did I get completion for the Raisu Palace Region. I now have 7 proof of legends, so imo avoid Raisu Palace and just do Imperial Sanctum (Im sure most people will avoid Raisu anyway, I only did it because I had the Z quest active from a week ago).
edit: It may be that I fell victim to the bug described on the wiki
