Event January 20-22, Free Preview of Chapter 2!!
Aesir Odin
Well it's the 13th and still no post for keys anywhere...... Anyone know what happened? I've been checking back all day so far and still nothing. C'mon ANET don't tease us as bad as Square-Enix does.

AN work on EST time, not GMT. So expect keys to be up later on.

If that is the fact, then (right now as I type this), it is only 7:30am PST.
If they dont update till say, 9am PST, it will be 12pm EST when the update goes into effect on the site.

not sure if anyone noticed this but.. Anet are some clever people this will get more ppl to play pvp which in turn will covert the non pvp community as they wont want to miss out trying out the new professions

I have a question on this.If you have Gw,will you still be able to play it even after Chapter 2 is released? If yes,how will the HoH be affected?Since 2 different guilds in 2 different chapters might be able to control HoH.

For new players, who have not purchased GW chapter 1, but buy chapter 2, they will be able to play chapter 2 only. However, when they buy chapter 1, they can experience both parts of the game.
Good question about HOH. That is still yet to be seen. I have no idea how chapter 2 will affect HOH if at all.

NO extra slots????
WHAT????
Damn it, I'm screwed. And about 500 thousand other players too.

When you go into your account options, there is an option called "manage access keys" for those who preordered, it came with a key for the prerelease, and a key for normal access, all you do is add the key they give out today, real simple, easy, no extra downloading. I would reccommend possibly on next thursday or friday before the preview weekend afk with the client on or afk logged in, that way you can stream whatever content anet has for you, it worked for me during the weekend events, i left it on and was downloading randomly during the week. strange, but its true.

Yes, Geile has said the key is universal, I think that means they will give only ONE key to everyone in the world, so nobody is left behind.

I'm with Silent in that I'm not much of PvP'er myself, although I did do plenty of fighting in the Snowball Arena over the holidays. I may not be a really good PvP'er, but at least trying the Assassin and Ritualist out will be something to look forward to.

Okay anyone found out where or what the key is?
Some people in game are shouting now that it is in game? :S

If you go to the Guild wars main site and to support you can read all the information needed about the key and the PVP event.
One regional key will be distributed for each of the American and European regions, you can share the key.

just released some new answers for the upcoming PvP event:
- there is only one key for each server (european, american,...)
- you start with a limited amount of skills
- you can unlock more skills with faction gained during the event
- your unlocks/fame/faction stay on your account
- you can create a new account to get 4 char-slots for that event
- but a temporary account can't be merged with your main account
finally something new to spend my faction on
and no need to worry about getting a key...
edit: ok sorry for initially putting this in a new thread

That's funny Loviatar, but they did exactly that, and I'm in that exact position. I was itching all day to see a word on this, and now I feel like swearing my head off. So I don't get to use my unlocks for this unless I want to blow away a character. For a preview. And I could even gain faction and do more unlocks. If I'll blow away a character. #!*^#&*!$&*...
So lose one of my 3 maxed characters who provided the unlocks and I enjoy doing the high level stuff with or my monk I play with my wife's two characters with and is past LA.
THANK YOU ANET.

And here goes the age old PvP and PvE debate all over again. Look, it's really very simple:
ANET figures that if you are primarily interested in PvP, you're 99% likely to have a PvP slot or even more than one. Great, you can add the key to your existing account and get some unlocks, and continue to PvP once chapter 2 comes out. Fantastic.
If you're primarily a PvE person, and you have 4 character slots full of PvE characters: you're most likely not that interested in PvP, as it costs money and items and such to switch around a PvE character constantly. So if you just want to see the new classes, and play around with them a bit and try on their different armors, and maybe do a few light battles in PvP: MAKE A SECOND ACCOUNT AND USE THE KEY THERE.
And if you're like me, and want to have a PvE character in more than 3-4 different primary professions: buy yourself a second account! I deleted my ele for a PvP slot on my primary account (had the most unlocks, obviously) and bought another to make some new toons.
Take this with a grain of salt, but if you have 4 PvE toons: nobody made that choice for you, you made it yourself. Nobody at ANET ever said they would give more character slots later, and it's been 4 slots for as long as I can remember. Full release of chapter 2? Sure, they might give you an extra slot then. I think ANET has been more than fair by allowing you to make a new account if you want to play around with the new classes. Heck, they didn't even have to do ANYTHING.
.... looking a gift horse in the mouth, I swear.

I love my-way or the high-way type people.
Yes you're the only model for the game... really.
A-Net encourages PvErs to try PvP and recognizes a PvE crowd.
Of course GuildWars has a PvP crowd.
Serious PvPers probably went down the road of unlocking everything in 3 PvE slots (hey like me, omfg). And had a PvP slot.
Yes I'm sorry I got my wife to play and wanted to play a monk with her as she worked her way up in pre-sear and post. I use the same monk for both her two characters now. I got another purchase for Anet. However I'm effectively penalized because of this - nuke the one playing with my wife (only primary monk, past LA now) or one of my core players I do enjoy playing in the high level content ('scuse me for doing so lol). I don't find a game requiring me to nuke one of my 4 core characters 'enjoyable'.
Our household already has two copies of GW and would get two expansions (provided this slot #^*! doesn't continue). Should I be required to buy a third so I can PvE with my wife?
Gift Horse in the mouth my azz. I did my unlocks through PvE before faction came about and still find that in some respects a more interesting and challenging way to do it. THEY coupled the two, I'm left glutted with PvE now. My reward for doing it that way? Nuke one or more of them to get a PvP slot back/Preview slot back.
Other MMOs and similiar games (EQ/AO/D2/etc etc) HAVE MORE SLOTS.
This game at least MADE you use 3 of your 4 slots to unlock for PvP.
That mechanic is still part of the game and I'd do it in Chapter 2.
But the rumor of one/few slots expansion, same &#@*thing again.
Yes it is very simple. If they don't want to piss off a bunch of people who would like to play both sides of the game and/or with others, they have to open it up. I wanted to help my wife pre-sear, am I a bad man? Or keep that monk as she goes up the rungs. OMFG I like PvP too.
Closed-minded buggers can really bug me.
So now I have to decide if I nuke my original e/me (capped all the ele unlocks) which I still enjoy playing, to get real enjoyment out of the trial (leverage all the unlocks I worked for) and benefit from the faction gains.

First of all, this is a PvP event. People who PvP already have a free character slot to delete and reroll into new PvP character. The way that the event is being handled, it works out for them because they can create a new PvP character using that slot and they get to keep the skills they unlock after the event (available again when Chapter 2 is released). For people who only PvE and used up all their four slots and for people who do not own the game, they gave a free key so they can create a new account. Since you don't PvP already, there really is no advantage to unlocking the skills you buy through faction because you don't care about unlocking anyways (it's only useful for PvP). However, because it's a new account, you're at a disadvantage because you won't have many skills unlocked. If this event doesn't suit you, don't worry, they said they definitely will have more events before it's released. They probably will even have an event where the PvP people can get upset because it's focused on PvE.
Guardian of the Light
At first I was mad that I won't be able to come the saturaday of the event and will probably only be on friday and some of sunday BUT I found out this
THERES MORE THEN ONE OF THESE EVENTS! http://guildwars.com/default.html
Quote:
Will there be future Guild Wars: Factions events? Yes, definitely! Watch for more events in advance of the release of Guild Wars: Factions. |
Lord Iowerth
I think we're probably misunderstanding each other, so i'll try to better explain myself. I'm not a "my way or the highway" person, heck, do whatever makes you happy ... only you can determine that. Just understand ANET is trying to accomodate everyone, and some folks are bound to disagree with they way they do things. That's an accepted fact.
Yep, I did the same.
Ok, I can feel your pain here ... very nice of you to make a monk to help the wife. Definitely no decision between helping out someone you care about, and having a PvP slot.
Absolutely not.
Here's where I don't understand: Since you did your unlocks, like you say, through PvE ... there is no PvE during the upcoming weekend ... so what are you worried about, exactly? Either you want to unlock skills with faction or you want to unlock them with PvE. If you prefer going the PvE route, why not just wait until it comes out in retail? While the reason you nuked your PvP slot is admirable (that you wanted to help the wife), it was still a choice you made. I made much the reverse decision, and nuked my ele (no pun intended) to make a PvP slot because I was doing more PvP as time went on. I keep his weapons in storage, and once my new ele on second account gets up in lvls: there he is back again. No big deal.
And since when has Guild Wars been like other MMO's?
They have been doing that from the very beginning of the game, imo. Like you said: you had one PvP slot and the rest PvE. There you go! Both sides of the game, all wrapped up in a neat package that's linked. Am I upset that I can't have all 6 primaries on my main account, and have a PvP slot, and have them all skill-linked? Sure, that'd be nice, but i'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
If the only way you're going to get real enjoyment out of the trial is by getting faction/unlocks, nobody can say that is wrong of you to think that way.
I want to apologize if the tone of my last post sounded like I was attacking you personally: totally not the case. (and I really am very open-minded, and quite a nice person ) I just think there are alot of folks out there looking at this weekend as "ooh gotta get the unlocks before everyone else" sort of thing, when I feel it's meant to be a treat to let you play with the new classes to see if you like them. It's something ANET is doing as a bonus, and they even found a way to give people who don't even have a copy of Guild Wars to be able to download the client and play.

Although i'm not too big into pvp anymore, i'll accept the fact that this is a pvp weekend. We knew this a long time ago. I'm just glad i'm going to be able to make a new account to screw around with the new content, and to have a little fun with the new characters. Kudos for that.
But there's a real slim chance of me buying chapter two if I #1 have to delete any one of my characters to be able to play both the new characters that i paid for or #2 have to create a new account just to reap the bennifits of having more than enough character slots to play the two new characters. Their both loosing situations because at 1 time i was huge into pvp (until iway screwed it up). Theres a good chance i'll get back into it after i play my characters. But that shouldnt mean i have to delete a character to create a pvp only character, nor run through the game with core characters secondaries set to the new characters just to unlock all the skills i need because i only had them unlocked on my second (chapter 2) account.
those who own guild wars and are planning on purchasing chapter 2 shouldn't be limited to:
1. creating a new account knowing you wont be able to take them back to the original gw.
or have to:
2. delete core characters as needed to provide space for the two new characters being added.
