If a hug emote were to be made, it should be consensual. That meaning that the emote should be something like:
Person B: /hug *Person A*
Person A: /hug *Person B*
which could be this:
Person B: /hug *Person A*
Person A: /no
Person B gets no hugs today, and Person A does not feel violated by a random hugger.
I'm all for hugging, using /bowhead with my boyfriend gets annoying after a while.

It'd look awkward. I mean, /highfive and /goteam are hard enough to get right, and that only involves hands touching! Imagine the work and positioning the programmers would have to do to make it look right, and that's not even taking height differences into account. Even if they managed, there'd be all kinds of wasted effort to get your characters to /hug. And how wrong it'd look if you just /hugged the air, someone facing away from you, or, say, Emporer Kisu.
...On second thought, that last one's hilarious. But my point still stands. The effort involved just outweighs the payoff by so much. Stick with stuff like "*hugs Laura Fowler*" and let the programmers fix what needs fixing.
Or add emotions we need more, like /disagree, /cry, /shrug, and so on. :P

Ooo yes I've wanted this for a while. Lots of new emotes would be awesome. Some people use the /rock emote for hugs and sometimes if it works right, the /doubletake can work for a leaning in kiss. But the actual emotes would be good too. WOW had flirt, joke, rofl, etc. And I remember RuneScape having a cry emote or something like that. So...yeah, /signed.

Tbh i like emotes, when in conversation it makes it more visual rather than just msn with prettiness, but unfortunately with mmos you have to cope with the lowest common denominator, meaning that you'd get lots of berks running around harassing people more than normal, so what if WoW has more emotes? WoW also has monthly sub fees and rubbish graphics but you don't see people clamouring to get those put it. So as much as i like them, leave them as they are, i'd be happier in the knowledge that Anet were making more content/fixing bugs than making emotes.....
