So far I've only ascended with 3 characters since I've been playing. I started with a warrior, then a ranger, and today my necromancer. The first time I did it, I expected it to be really hard because I heard a lot of hype about how hard it was, but it was really easy and fast. I think I just brought my regular skills and I killed him in about 20 seconds. My ranger one was funny; I decided to bring spirits to see if he would use them. I brought Symbiosis, favorable winds, and winter. The funny thing was I think he only shot me three times in total, from beginning to end. Right off the bat he used favorable winds, then winter, and then he was dead. Now those 2 were easy, but my necromancer took me 3 times to win, and just barely. The first time I tried using death magic, but my computer was lagging so by the time I got control I was under 50% health and he was fresh. The second time I tried hexing him to death, and that didnt work at all. The final time I just brought a bunch of sacrificing skills and to my suprise he killed himself. I watched as he sacrificed 25%, then 10% three times in a row, he somehow was doing a considerable amount of damage to me, and right at the end, we both died instantaneously...I still got the xp though.

First time going up against my doppleganger. Heard a lot about how hard it was supposed to be. Had no idea why. Had no idea what to bring, so just went in with the build I had. Was a N/E, first thing I cast was Meteor Shower and it was over. He stood right there and just kept getting knocked over and died. Was fast enough to even get the bonus...
Then with my Ranger and my Monk, I couldn't do it so fast and had to look for advice, I was kind of surprised when it killed me... Just goes to show how stupid it was that mobs stayed in AoEs before the update. I can't imagine beating my doppleganger again with the build I used then.

first time i did it was on a monk. it was so freaking hard for me that first time. i tried using my ele secondary skills. finally i killed it with retribution. after almost 5 minutes.

I recently went back to see how fast I could beat my Doppelganger now using an invinci-monk. I probably killed him over 30 times out of boredom, and my best so far has been about 13 seconds. It helps that you can pre-cast enchantments in the room before the doppelganger.

Doing it on a Warrior is way too easy. Just run in and whack the sense out of him.
Was more of a challenge on my monk, but using /Me on that helped a lot, empathy+backfire 4tw

I've ascended four characters: a warrior (too easy, just run in and bash away), an ele/me (dual meteor shower ftw), a necro/mo (this was tough, though I got him in the end with my life transfer build) and a mesmer/r (the funniest by far, I brought 7 spirits and conjure phantasm. He died without attacking me once). I'm having problems with my monk though, seeing as he uses healing breeze these days.

I beat the doppleganger without using any skills... just make sure u have good armor and a good weapon

My favourite was my Mo/N. I brought 4 persistent enchantments, guardian, aegis, and rend enchantments. I think I went in with 7 enchantments on (you get light of whatever for free)... he rended himself to death in about 20 seconds.

The mesmer doppleganger was very funny. I read the strategy before i had a mesmer on these boards and in practice it is a killer.
I brought backfire and empathy and a bunch of energystealing skills and useless stuff like that (useless only in this case)
I casted backfire on him immediately, then empathy and then i did....nothing.
type /sit and the doppleganger is dead well under 50 seconds
My charactres i did it with before were elementalist, necromancer and warrior.

Yea, with a warrior you can kill it in about 5 seconds. now with the update that made it EASIER it is impossible to fail

Beating him with a mo/war using a swamp club (hammer) as i knew his axe will cause less dmg. I beat him with something like 10 health left.

i beat dopple with warrior, necro(sacrificed to death...), monk( a bit hard but smiting did the trick... although i think i was like 20 hps from death when he died ^_^), and ranger( since i had necro as secondary prof i had him sacrifice himself while i was shooting him didnt use any spirits )

I have ascended 3 chars, my healing monk was first and I must have tried and died at least a dozen times before checking out other peoples builds. Repeat a thousand times "I WILL NOT TAKE HEALING SKILLS". Did it and the bonus when using smiting. My Warrior practically killed him in 2 hits as far as I remember and my Ranger was as easy as MrGuru101's, just stick pointy wooden things in him at a distance while hes busy conjuring all the spirits he can muster. Unfortunately for the Doppelganger the spirits don't attack like pets do

I've ascended 4 characters - War/Ran, Ran/Ele, Ele/Nec, Nec/Mes and the necro/mesmer was by far the quickest and easiest - I just loaded up with the health sacrifice skills and watched him kill himself.

I went up against it with a lvl 12 WaMo, then I died.. and seconds later it bled to death and I received 50k XP.

The first time, I wanted to try and figure it out for myself, so I just went in with my current build (W/E). In PvE, I use immolate a lot as a first volley. It took my two tries to figure out why I kept burning to death. 
The third time, after I figured it out, I went in with warrior only skills and it went so fast, I barely remember the fight. I don't think I hit my doppleganger more than 3 or 4 times.

I went in when i had to redo yichi and for some reason he glitched and didnt move. i wanded him to death

took me a few tries with my ele to beat him and I didn't get the bonus. Also took me a few tries with my warrior despite how "easy" its suppose to be. But when I did beat him, I got the bonus to.

was bringing dark pact...vamp gaze..malise...i ran around while he kept using dark pact...and me before dying using vamp gaze which he also uses to..his life was at l l mine was l l he used a dark pact it killed me but before i died like split second my vamp gaze got off..so he sacced and i vamp gazed him..and we both died at same time and got my bonus.

Ive ascended with 3, and i think the easiest was my ranger..I simply used my eternal bow and ran up to her (so she would get out her chaos axe) and i did much more damage with the bow, I also took off all of my skills.
My necromancer was a pain in the ---. took off all skills but my weapon did the same amount of damage as hers, always got down to us each having 2-3 health and somehow i died, on about the 4th try i actually won when it got to that point.
Warrior was similar to ranger - used a vampiric summit hammer of hamery mastery that droped for me once, and ran up to her and was doing more damage then her axe...i belive i also had some type of healing spell with me beacuse of the -1 health regen, cant remember though.
Its a lot easier then some people make it i think, Just have to think of good ideas, i think its best to not have any skills.

I've Ascended 4 characters, and I think my favorite by far was my Monk. This was before the AoE update, so I just smited my dopple to death. It probably took about 15 seconds with Balthazar's, Zealots, Symbol of Wrath, Bane Signet, and random single damage smite skills.
Reminiscing, I realize how dumb the AI was to just stand there while I passed judgement on him.

FYI for all you monks - your double will only use Healing Breeze to counter degen (conjure phantasm, life transfer, etc) and not for normal healing. So if you're just direct-damaging him, you can bring breeze safely.
Now, for the funny story. When I ascended my Monk, I experimented with several different builds ... well, after getting killed about 10 times, I looked through some forums and such, and went back in well informed.
I end the cutscene, and quickly target him to see what he's doing ... nothing. Not casting anything, not attacking, just standing there. I figure "allright, he's glitched!" so I wand him a few times just to make sure he's not moving. Nothing. I go stand right in front of him and do a few silly emotes, nothing. I type to myself (hold your comments, people!) "man, this is too easy, maybe he's sleeping?" and apparently "sleeping" is the magic word that makes your doppleganger wake up and start beating the crap out of you with an axe, because that's just what he did. I was fumbling about to utilize the build I had learned, and he killed me pretty quick. If only i'd kept my mouth shut and just wanded him to death like any normal, intelligent person would have 
I ended up beating him a few rounds later.

Haha, for my ranger I got all spirits and a few shots(it was my first char, 4th try) and doppelganger was lagged, so I kicked his butt bigtime in 20 seconds. I just got my monk ascended, with 3 skills. Symbol of wrath, retribution, and healing breeze. Whooped him in 40 seconds.(he kept on running away when I used symbol of wrath)

I used an E/Me. First I cast Arcane Conundrum on him so he could not get backfire on me before I could get it on him. Backfire + Entrophy and run around. I actually used a shield for an armor boost. Ironically, the last arrow he shot killed him via entrophy, but that same arrow killed me. I fell to the ground dead but was immidiately ressed and made it to dragon's lair.

Doppleganger used Awaken the Blood, followed by Order of the Vampire. Basically, the whole build I had focused on sacrificial spells. He kept sacrificing health until his health bar was really, really low, then stopped.
After that, he started shooting me with his bow constantly, and wore me down to around 1/4 Health. Starting to get worried, I ran around, hoping for the best.
It took around another 20 seconds, but eventually, he used Order of the Vampire again, and killed himself :P

1st time with the ele i casted my beloved maelstrom and then just chained in the rest of my spells while he got all spells interupted.
(his bow whacked me good when swirling aura wore off, but i was quicker.)

5th time on the necro i watched him sacrifice himself to death.
curious how my mesmer will kill him - guess domination will do it (and physical resistance for myself) - and i will definately try to smite him again X_X

I did it with my e/me. I just took mantras of everything-except fire which was the only damage I was doing. Shot meteor storm, fireball, ran up close and did phoenix, then inferno and then said Nuked! when he was dead as I had prepared. Funniest screenshot I ever got...

My blood necro build died twice. So I just loaded him up with sacrificial skills and wells. I think I kept just dark pact and vampiric gaze and maybe shadow strike to get him and killed him within bonus time then.
I had a mesmer just about ready to ascend when I deleted him.
My next will be my ranger. I plan on just taking spirits and bow-whacking him.

This isnt that funny, but when I fought it with my N/Mo, I used SS on it and when it killed me, it died too and they let me ascend.

Beat the Monk doppleganger when I was level 8 using RoF and Retribution. Took a while, but it was easy.

my mesmer/necromancer, had backfire and all necro sac. spells - hit him with backfire real quick, he died in less than a second

I beat it with my Monk ages ago. I think it took about 10 seconds. Bane Signet, Banish, Holy Strike, Balthazar's Aura, and Symbol of Wrath. I actually died before he did, but I still won, since Symbol of Wrath killed him instantly after I went down.
