What's Up with ECTO Price Plunge?

Its like a stock market , from what im seeing. So we better start investing.

30 minutes after my last post (just above), ecto has risen to 8.5k. So it's rubies 7.5, sapphires 8 and ecto 8.5k. I'm starting to wonder...has ecto gone up again after the 'record lows' yesterday because some rich people thought that would be the low point, and bought a load, thinking the price would go back up as a sort of brief counter-wave to the panic? Maybe even, rich guys see the price crash ahead and are throwing money in to help?
EDIT: latest news (after a few minutes), ectos 8.5k, rubies 7.5, sapphires have just gone back down to 7.5.

The game will always feature FoW armor, 15K tormentors, yada yada yada. The crafting materials, costs, etc won't change, it will always be 15K for Grotto armor, and FoW armor will need shards, etc, for example. When Factions does come out, this will not change. Factions may introduce new armors for the rich and (not) famous, but the original chapter one stuff won't go away. Might become cheaper in the long run, but it won't be replaced.
As far as the price fluctuations of globs, I'm sure it's simply people speculating on the market, or finally deciding to spend the money for the crafting items since they are relatively cheap - at least cheap compared to a month ago.

Can this thread be devoted to price bulletins, it might help track exactly when the crash happens Oh yes, it will happen. I reckon it would probably be triggered by someone or a few people selling a load of ectoes to the trader, maybe even deliberately for a laugh. The price will then go down by a fairly significant amount, and suddenly the panic selling will begin, resulting in competition and then more people selling to the trader, and the price will crash, it would probably even happen if a load of rich people are trying to help by pouring 'some' of their money into buying ectoes. Just me speculating though, there may be some restabilisation and people will stop selling ectoes so much after the initial phase of 'I can't keep these any longer' selling.
By the way, in the last few minutes, ecto went from 8.5 down to 8.0, then back up again to 8.5, and just now has gone back down to 8.0.

The fact that ecto prices are hovering around 8k makes me think that a large number of people who have money and want FoW armor without hunting for the materials themselves are considering that to be a fair price to pay. Probably won't drop from there for a while.
What I find interesting is that the Monstrous items haven't gone up in price at all. I expected them to get speculated just like Rubies and Sapphires.

Just unloaded 40 of my ecto for 7k each. Urgh. Couldn't take the price plummeting. I'm not waiting until C2 either to find out if Ecto will go back up (Rit and Sin Fissure).
Oh well, until the economy evens up, I'll be glad to sit on my 1 million in the storage. No Rare Material speculation for me, I'm not cut out for that kind of stuff

People can now reasonably get ectos with a balanced pickup team in the black hole. Before if you wanted ectos you had to get into a specialized smite farming team. Now finding ectos is possible for the general populace. I think you'll see ectos start to mirror shards in price because of it, though priced a bit higher since some armors only require ectos not shards.

When I did Tombs last night with an 8 man team a total of 3 Ectos dropped and one person got 2 of those. If this is typical, I don't think the market will be flooded. I can see prices dropping a little, but I don't think they'll dip down to the 3k mark.

Has anyone ever stood by grenth when we have favor and watched millions of party-less monks go into UW? thats a hint right there why ecto prices have dropped. But its not just ecto.. The only person that will buy anything from anyone anymore is the merchant, everyone is selling and no one is buying. Why? Because there are so many ways to go about making money and farming items that have been tweaked and perfected to be extremely effortless and naturally... people abuse the crap out of it causing the twin tower effect on the market.
Sure, everyone is saving up their G's for chapter 2 but it will be no different. I give Ch2 about a month before everyone has found a way to farm a new area easily to make a ridiculous ammount of money or get a lot of the unique item in that area avoiding all the challenges/obsticles that Anet has placed in your way like a cake walk, and then what? that new chapter 2 armor that you have been saving up your money for so long to get is obtainable in a bout a days worth of farming

Sold an ecto from Tombs to the trader for 6k this morning... if prices keep dropping I may be tempted enough to get one for myself (not right now though, a full suit still costs close to a million gold).

Since the new UW is here to stay most likely, the economy with FoW and ectos is staying messed up. Although we sure don't want the new UW to go away, if I knew it was going away, I'd stock up on cheap ectos now, so when it's gone, prices skyrocket again. Did a new UW run with my guild this morning, we won, I got the jokey ogre slaying knife, but in total like one ecto dropped...but most likely that's just bad luck.

My 6th and latest run provided the only 2 ectos, Wenslauss' Faith and Victo's Maul. On like my 2nd run I got both ectos also, and Victo's Axe.

I still feel that the greens messed it all up. The market has gone to shit for the bigger part.. I member the times when u got a boner just by finding a golden item..
Anyways i will keep stacking up my ecto pile.. Buying 10 for 70k is almost like a big joke.. and don't worry abt the FOW Armor it will stay in the game even in Ch2 there will still a FOW armor to craft with your shards and ecto's..
I got it the hard way and paid for it when ecto's were 11-12k. since i was unable to stack more then a 1000k into my storage i starting trading it for ecto's and shards.. Ok i admit i had some luck with couple of golden drops that made half my armor in flash.. I love my FOW armor and people keep asking questions abt it and wanting to see it.. I just keep telling them it's the noob armor from FOW.. When they then ask where that is I don't reply..
Anyways don't get your panties in a twist abt some ecto's.. I have close to 600 and i am not getting alarmed

as for ectos, i see the price continually dropping until the new green farming ends. many more people than there were doing the old UW are doing the new UW constantly (no favor needed), and even if they arent out looking for ectos, theyre still gonna drop. my guess is within the next month, ectos will bottom out around 3k or 3.5k and then gradually make their way up to 5k once the "new green" frenzy dies. again, just a guess- but i think its an educated one.
im not much of a gambler, so i havent invested in rubies and sapphires or any other items to date. i have saved up on crafting materials so ill already have whatever i need to craft assassin and ritualist armor when chap2 hits. if i WAS a gambler though, id speculate on the monsterous items. before the wintersday update, i had one monstrous drop EVER- sold it to the trader because theres no use for it. in the past week though, ive had 3 drops. As for the ecto's close to 600 is a nice pile nut nothing compared to the stacks of some people i know apart from the rare items they have.. Not that's of any importance.. The game should be abt skillz not abt the size of your stack..

who told you the FOW will be accessable at all to chapter 2.think catacombs going when you go to searing from pre.
there will be an equivalent prestige armor for chapter 2 but it will not be FOW and ecto/shards will not be a factor in crafting it.

well yeah... all these are valid points... saving up for chap 2, no need for ectos ( farmers is not a cause because there has always been a HUGE NUMBER OF FARMERS, and ever since the nerf there have been less O_O). but i beileve the highest reason for this is the fact that, since its easier to track who buys money on ebay... people have started selling ectos instead of gold. thats why prices have gone down

I think the market plummit is great. I have been around from near the beggining and its good to see prices fall to within reason for the noobs to enjoy. Ebay price hikes from anet cracking down is forcing the market back down Due to lack of sales. Along with everyone on pins and needles waiting for chapter 2 and what it going to take to get the best of everything.
I'm not worried golds not hard to make. If you can't make 1mil plate within 2 weeks HONESTLY then your doing something wrong.
Just play the game, don't try to be the best in the next the first day.

Ectos...hmm, dont see a need for them, FOW armor is ugly as sin....and I give one of the others in my guild all of my ectos for his one character that wants the armor...wont buy any. Rubies/Sapphires are nice to get, and I keep them when I get them....but since there is no need for them yet....
Farming, so what else are we supposed to do when we finish all the missions, the titan quests, and the new Hall of Heros? I have tried to get groups to do more of the quests in the FoW but no one makes it that far and after the smites in the UW no one wants to stick around to do them.....

I'm hoping that ecto prices will eventually drop to the 3k-4k range. However I think they will probly get to 6k at the least. If they should ever make it to 3k mark then I will probly go ahead and buy FoW armor for all my chars, unless I really like chapter 2 armor.

However, I smell ecto being used for Chapter 2 armor and then price will suddenly go up, and people that are so keen to sell their pile of ectos till price doesn't fall even more, will get double screwed. ^^

I have to ask just how long it takes to pick up a full party of people for a droks run, because I'm sure that that will affect the rate you make your gold at, but I don't doubt you can make a lot of money there.
I also have to agree with the guy above me, we have other stuff to do. I hope we have more of a life than this game. I personally find it more fun to help people out than squeeze the maximum amount of gold out of the game than the next guy. But hey, to each their own. To all of you who find more value in the gold... hope you make tons

Is it just the items that get bought and sold to the trader? Or is there a program that keeps track of personal trades? I've always wondered this, but have never tried to track down an answer. If they somehow keep track of personal trades... the implication is that a large enough group of people could influence prices across the board by constantly trading an item back and forth among themselves. Could you imagine! An ingame yakuza! Lol... We could all for a new Mob/Guild to make the market what we want... hehehe.

I farm 1mil plate in drok farming 4-5hrs 5 days a week . and then whatever on weekends. having favor is key. I find drops double in value per trip with favor. I do this in a 55 monk and those who only do troll giants and avicara fierce are missing out. wise and guile are where alot of good stuff is and in large packs. heading west to a few grawl and more avicar is good to and alot of the out of way chest spawn better items. proper id and salvage is key to maximize k intake. 12-15k 45 min runs in drok is an average. add in runes and gold items and dye right about 18-20k an hr based on nightly salvage.
Push your limits farming dont make it easy take on what might rend or degen you. or has ton of interupt. kill what your not supposed to and you will reep better rewards.
