Anti-jerk: whats the nicest thing someone has done for you
Zubie
Hi
Well seeing as the Jerk post is still ticking along nicely I thought I'd start a thread when we can post the nice things people do.
Once back when I was broke and buying a cheap sword from a guy in 15k armor I couldnt afford the asking price by about 50g or something ... so he says hang on and modifes the trade ... then gives me the sword and a poison string for *free* ...
helped me on my way selling that for 500g
(and just for the record I have met more nice people than Jerks by about 20:1)

I was helping a steam in THK, and I was healing my ass off, and at the end of the mission someone actually said "Nice healing", which is a very rare thing to hear as being a monk.
And of course, the guy that gave me 40K and an ecto when I got him through the Nolani mission was quite nice.

Met a bloke who ran me from Piken to Yaks bend for free, was gonna charge but changed his mind at Grenditch. Not much I know but it helps & really builds up your faith in gamers.

While I was new and playing through the game, no one was really that nice to me. I played almost everything with henchmen and a few friends.
After I started running people I have met a lot of very nice people. When I run people I often talk to them and sometimes make good friends. That is how I met one of my best GW friends, who actually gave me a Tarnok's Recurve Bow later as a gift to a friend. It was really a nice move and I appreciate it a lot.
I also remember one particular warrior dancing in Ascalon City, who gave me and my fellow ranger (both in pink female druids ) a flower. I kept that flower untill I found someone special enough to give it. I hope that flower is still spreading happiness today.

I was doing THK as a necro and found myself with two exp monks, one exp warrior, and the remaining four not knowing what they were doing.
We had a hard time keeping the newer players under control and the monks were running around rezing and healing like crazy. I was hot on their heels charging them up and still get in a SS once in a while.
One of the warriors said, "good monks", and the monk said, "No, good necro". I had never heard that before.
That was the first time I've ever had a monk compliment a necro for keeping their energy up to the whole group.

OK i am always giving stuff away.
Find a sweat axe, beam right to ascalon, find a newbie, make their day.
I was helping a guildie last month with my monk get through thunderkeep and made friends with an elementalist.
She goes and gives me a superior healing rune. Gives me for free. And i needed it as i was making a 55 monk. OMG. I tried to give it back but she would not take it.
Well i invited her into my guild. Since then I have helped her get through thundekeep (not trivial) and have introduced her to gvg (spent a lot of time in instruction and mentoring). Well also help her get through Fire Island.
I always pay my debts.

Ok my turn. I was in pre-searing Ascalon and this guy had a chest plate that I was looking for. I didn’t know where to go as I didn’t know my way around at the time.
So I went up to him and asked him who he got it from and the general location. But instead of telling me, he invited me and we formed a two man group, and he took me to the exact location and helped me get the materials that I needed for the collector. He also gave me some really helpful tips on what to do and where stuff is.
I know it don’t sound like much but for a ‘newbie’ to find that much gammer friendliness in one guy were others had told me to die get lost was really good.

Anyway, when I got my second account and made a necro, I made that other necro my model. I always volunteer to bring BiP or Blood Rit.

After going through the new Tombs several times (monking) and getting nothing, a guildie (one of my officers and I consider a friend even though I've never met her), took me to the Isle of the Nameless and started dropping little piles of greens and ectos and asked me to choose a pile.
Such bad luck in drops, but good luck in friends.

I'm just gonna say a quick thing about the guild I'm in then go to a story about a stranger.
The guild I'm in is so nice, people help out with quests and missions no matter how many times its been done.
Prices for greens are slashed way even beyond 50% less, upgrades are given away for free.
Now the nicest thing from a stranger, I posted here that I needed Bortak's Bone Staff, I was in game and someone PMed me saying that if I still need the staff. I told him/her yes and I met them in LA internationl. He gave me the staff for free and did not want to take anything for it. I checked the price and its was like 100k+15 ectos at the time. I was like
As for myself I always give free stuff away, I go back to Ascalon area and give out shields and swords.
In Droks, you see a lot of monks and necros wanting feathers. Some people charge 20gp each trying to take advantage, I just give them away for free.

I was trying to cap Spellbreaker with my monk in a pug that included Orion and Alesia. Everyone knows what a grind it is starting from Rankor, but I hadn't been to War camp yet, so I couldn't start from there. Anyway, by the time the party got to Grenth's, everyone but a R/Mo had bailed. Down four party members, we were this close to calling it a night when both of us, unspoken and unexpectedly, started to head North. We took out a few mobs along along the way, things started looking up. We finally got to the monk boss, and after a very long and protracted battle (think Orion's random nukes and massive wand damage) downed him, and capped the skill. The R/Mo is on my friends list now, has a monk at his beckon call, and recently received a gold Eternal Storm Bow, UW drop, in appreciation. Really made my day.

To which i got the usual ignorant replies " in a ditch" & "on fire" and many more pig headed remarks. When a guy came up and offered to show me where he was, then proceeded to show me every collector AND help me obtain all the items that i needed for my armour.
We left pre-sear shortly afterwards but got split up in the pvp thing, He then pm'ed me the next day to ask how i was then met me in ascalon and gave me all the gold and materials i needed for my first set of post-sear armour!
This guy is now my guild leader and i am one of his most loyal officers.
KINDNESS costs NOTHING!

Umm... I was doing Ruins of Surmia with a random PuG of a Me/W and W/Mo... we made it up to the monk boss about 3/4 through and died, then the W/Mo had to leave. Me (Mo/Me) and the Me/W decided to just run it again with Stephan this time. About halfway through, of me smiting/hexing/healing he/she complimented me on my healing, and I was kinda amazed... since I usually try to avoid PuG's due to hearing of all the insane random newbs that are in there. Unfortunately, we split up (by accident) and both of the henchies followed me and he/she ran into a group of about 4 charr or so and got raped. Of course, me being the dumbass newb that I am only had a Res Sig too... so I ressed him/her and a little bit later (just before the end) he/she got killed again, but luckily I finished the mission alone. I felt bad about letting him/her die though
I know this isn't what happened to me, but I think it helped anyway. I was running around in pre-searing with my current char (she has 13k.... or she did yesterday, down to 3k now but I bought a lot of dyes :P) and I saw a random Mesmer asking for 50g. I whispered her and wanted to know what she needed it for, and she said she needed to ID some stuff. I gave her the 50g, because I had 13k so it wasn't a big loss to me if I didn't get it back, and she was all grateful that I did it. After she ID'd/sold some of the stuff she had, she actually paid me back the 50g which kinda shocked me... I was expecting to lose the 50g, but sometimes people can amaze you

In Ring of Fire missions (i can't quite remember which one it was) a nice w/mo got a gold max dmg fire staff and asked if i wanted it. I said ok and asked how much and he said just have it for free. Since then my idea of warriors being selfish and quite idiotic (because of one i came across earlier in the game) disappeared

When the holloween event was here, I had brought my war over from pre in the hopes of getting him a pumpkin head ( I know but it's the little things that make e happy ). Well being short on time, myself and a guildie took up an offer for an advertised run from ascalon to LA, She was a wa/me that ran her heart out to make it in time for the next event and we literally got there just as the mad king arrived.
When we asked her price, ( we didnt care would have probbly paid anything ) she said free!! blew me away, I think we both gave here a 4k tip so she made out well anyway.
The point is she was doing a hour long run "just because" and whats more I am actually finding people like this more and more.
....it's a good life

When I first got my necromaner to a level 20 and i really wanted drokner armor, but i was only at sanctum. I was in ascalon city and i saw another necromancer with the same face/hair/haircolor as mine and she had the 15k bonelace which (at the time) i had never seen, So i asked what it was and where she got it, then i said well i havent even made it to drokners forge yet, and she gave me 3k for a run to get there.
although now 3k is litterally almost pocket change when you see the prices of 15k armor and the prices of really nice weapons, at the time it meant a lot to me

When I first started playing the game I was trying to find materials to buy my first set of armor. So i say WTB 10 iron ignots. I warrior comes up to me and opens a trade window and offers 100 of them. I tell him I just need 10 and he says they're free. WOW. I didn't know nice people existed in the game. Another time I post here commenting how I like this fiery off hand and get a PM from someone asking if I wanted it for free. Another WOW.
Needless to say those two have renewed my faith in gamers.
I now make it a point to go to Ascalon and unload whatever I farm to anyone new to GW. Try to set people up with their first set or armor also. Yesterday gave away tons of gold and major and superior runes to a nice polite newbie.
I'm not a devout religous person or anything but how does that passage go?
-Do unto others as you would have done to you-

A guildmate gave me a boat-load of gold when he knew I was looking to upgrade my monk's armor in Drok's.
But what I really wanted to mention is helping new players like so many on this thread have mentioned. It would be nice if more players like all of you played GW. I logged on the day after Christmas when GW was flooded with newbies. I had so much fun helping these players and giving out free items. It really made me feel good about myself. Eventually the character I was using finished all the quests I could do, but I didn't want to leave pre-searing!
The only problem was experienced players who were playing new characters who kept taking advantage of people like me giving out items. They should be ashamed!

My story is about me.
My IGN is Nubian King, I like to help the lower level characters with missions or running. I do it because I get bored sometimes when no one is on. I have my own guild and a teamspeak, sometimes I invite people on to make it easier. I recently helped a player named Lord Exii through the first four missions, talked to him the whole time about how to better his warrior. I talked about strategies and tactics, as well as skills and attribute settings. At the end of Noalani mission I had to go and I told him to work on getting armor, he stated I only have 300 gold. So I opened a trade window and gave him 5K. He still messages me wanting to do missions. I meet with him on occasion and try to help him. I have the best bunch of people in my guild, some of which i've played online with for four years. If any of you ever need help with a mission, from Ascalon to Hell's Precipice message me and I'd be glad to help if i'm available.

That's a cool offer Hellboy .
I wish there was a way to setup a guild for strictly helping out new players. Those dang low lifes would be coming in pretending to be just to get free stuff! Karma will get them one day, when they are 50 and still flipping burgers at a Mickey D's.

Hmm..a while back in CA I was a Monk on a random team with the obligatory wammo..Fiery Dragon Sword,Knight's Armour, the works.Fight starts off the usual way, with him casting mending..but to my shock and awe he put it on me.Later in the battle,I was under pressure, and yet again this paladin surprised me,casting Breeze and Healing Hands to keep me alive. While it's well known that these spells are dross, and that a Monk, never mind a Warrior, shouldn't be carrying any of them,it's the thought that counts..I was genuinely touched.
Another example of an 'Anti Jerk' was also to be found in CA,on the Crags killcount map;the one noone likes. Both teams rushed to the centre,so the fight started early,at about 2:30 mins.Neither team had any healing, and someone had bizarrely laid down eoe,so by 2:10 we were 4:3 up..we hadn't won it yet by any means. However, since this was CA we got the ragequitting retards who left withthe usual 'z0mg why d0 i alWYS get tEH n00b teAM?,'leaving one ranger on his own.Instead of following suit though, this guy gave it his best right until the timer hit zero, despite gettin killed numerous times along the way. While i think that the notion of 'honour' in an online game is bull, there's no reason not to stick to your principles and show a little dignity..as this guy did.
We all know that the number of decent people in GW far outweighs that of the rude morons, you just need people like this once in a while to reconfirm it.

Without trying to sound cliche, there have been too many to count. I've had people give me gold and green weapons, superior runes, and as much as 50k in gold...just out of kindness. And many of these people just came up and gave it to me, then disappear before I could even thank them. I've had people train me to solo, teach me how to beat my dopple when I was just a n00b and help me skill cap when they didn't need anything from that area.
There are a bunch of jerks, as there are in any on line community. But I think the nice people by far out number them.

I've been playing the game for several months, and the two nicest people are the ones that I have met only recently.
One person was a necro while doing the new Tombs. Our group got wiped right after entering (yea, I know :P), and the necro was the only one left standing. Luckily (and unfortunately at the same time), a black dye dropped for me, and a rare weapon dropped for another team member. The necro was nice enough to stick around and wait for the items to become public, pick them up, come back, and gave them back to me and the other team member. Needless to say, I was very surprised at the niceness and traded him 1k for being an upstanding citizen of GW.
The other person was a mesmer on another forum. She posted to give away 2 mesmer greens, which I needed for my mesmer. Me and another person replied and she gave me the mesmer staff in game for free. Very nice person if you ask me.

I hijacked my boyfriend's account to start a fifth character...
I'm in presearing, with the intention of getting all the "free" skills from quests and just leaving. I was at Ashford Abbey asking if anyone wanted to party up for quests when a mesmer answered me, joined up, and we set out for almost all of my ranger quests. I asked if there were any that she needed to do, and she said it was more important for me to do mine... In 2 days I had them done. She gave me collectors items for armor, and took me to each of the collector locations. She also took the time to explain how the game was played... I didn't have to heart to tell her that this was my fifth character, the others being lvl 20s that have beaten the game...
We got split up at the PvP, but occaisionally PMs to see if I am ok and ask if I need help.
~~~
I have been an SS/SV necro for my guild in UW, and for just random monks when I'm bored. Often I'm complimented for fast kills, or for not being an aggro noob, which I find nice. One day with a random guy - I don't know WHAT was wrong, I just couldn't kill the smites. Even though we were at the first group, he had paid the fee... and about to lose favor... he asked me to meet him back in TOA. He got on Teamspeak with me and went over my skills and attributes, and gave me very good advice on small changes that I should make. We lost favor and couldn't go again, but the small changes have made a HUGE difference. I appreciated that gesture.
~~~
When I started my monk I was trying to buy a minor rune of healing at ascalon from the trader when my trade window opened and someone was offering a minor healing. I put money in (the amount the trader was asking) and the session cancelled. The seller opened again and whispered that it's free. Ok - so 100g or whatever isn't a big deal... but i still found it nice.

I think the kindest act i've seen in guildwars is fromnumerous members of my guild. I'm happy to be part of a very friendly guild that help each other all the time, we share our greens and other high level equipment knowing its goingto a good cause. Others share there time to the point of insanity, some playing for 6 or more hours and only doing missions/runs etc for others for free
Outside of my guild the nicest thing i saw was when i first started ie newbieonly had the game 5mins. I asked for somehelp with the rez signet out of pre. Well he stayed playing with me for 4 hours showing me the ropes in pre and never bothering if i was being slow or awkward. KUDOS Tablett the Tomi, cheers for the help if you read this

I was in a full party out of Granite, about half of us had skills to cap and the rest just wanted to farm for IDS's so we all agreed to help each other get the skills and then go on to the cave and kill imps. We all got our skills and farmed the cave, we finally killed the last couple of imps and an IDS dropped for me, just at the moment I dropped down dead . I politely asked for a rez and it wasnt very forthcoming. 3 of the players started to camp over the sword while I lay there helpless while some of the others pleaded for fair play and asked for me to be rezzed. I thought about leaving but I didn't want to give them the pleasure so I thought I would at least make them wait a while for the sword. Suddenly I get rebirthed by one of the party who had been standing quietly off to one side and I managed to get the sword and thank the player in question for his sense of fair play. One of the other miserable gits who was trying to steal the sword was none too happy judging by his comments, so I spent the rest of the night whispering "I'm wielding an Icy Dragon Sword" to him (until I went on his ignore list)

Every once in a while someone will let me borrow their ident kit, since I always forget about it and sell it to merchants on accident.
Other than that, no one has ever done anything spectacularly nice for me

I was in pre-searing one time and this worm came out of the ground and then a ton of other worms.. I was surrounded and died trying to escape! when I got back to town I got called a noob and one guy even called me the guildwars bottomfeeder
I stopped playing for awhile and came back.. only to find my account had been hijacked! and some guy had a trojan in my computer.. I was pissed that was the last straw.. so I got another account and then I met some guy who showed me the ropes but he turned on me in pvp and would'nt heal me over the henchmen! I died like I was on some endless farriswheel.. but when we got to ascalon he gave me a char hide and said there you go buddy!
I got slapped on the butt and sent out to the northern wall

Well, the nicest thing I have ever had done for me was one time when I was in a group at Thirsty River trying to get a lvl 7 ele through who was paying each of us 5k, if we could. Unfortunately we couldn't and some people were jerks and left with the player's money. When I tried to return the player his/her money, the player gave me 5k more and a nice gold battle axe for trying to help and not being a jerk myself.
I know it wasn't all too much but it made my day.

I have encountered tons of very nice players on Guild Wars but I'm just gonna share about two people in my guild.
The leader of the guild I am in has multiple accounts and one of them is set aside just for Guild Storage (Crafting materials, weapons, etc) and on Sunday he gave me all the materials I needed for my 15k monk armor. For free!
On saturday another guy in my guild said to come to the hall if you wanted something. I'm always up for getting new stuff so I went. I get there and he runs up to me, opens up a trade, and lays down 50k and didn't want anything for it. I was like

Well I can't really remember what anybody has really done super nice for me.But one time when I got my droks ranger armor I dyed it black and went in public and asked if anone wanted to see the specific type of armor dyyed black so maybe they would know what it looked like.Anyways one guys pmed me and said it looked cool and they wanted to get a run but had no money to get the run.So I was happy about my armor and I was really Happy so I gave they guy 3k so he could get the run.It isn't much but I was proud of myself for doing it

I've been playing guild wars for a long time, and i try to do what i can to my surrounding community. Free runs and items for friends, low prices for people, after all, its not greed wars. I bought an item for 20k, didnt need it, so sold it for 10k. Well, i was selling items and LA when a low level, female necro came up to me and asked for some help. She looked and sounded new, so i decided to help her out. I helped her hunt, i gave her some advice, and some free runes and weapons. We kept in touch and one day she told me to meet her in yaks bend. She opened the trade window, and gave me all her gold. It was only 2k, and i told her i couldn't accept it, she needed it more than me. She said "You mentioned early you were saving for 15k armor, its the least i can do.". This is the first time somebody actually did something back for me, she made me take that money, and we are stil friends to the date.
