the nicest thing people do for me is being brutally honest, i used to use a wammo and someone let me know how newbish it was and thank him for that. i respect people who put honesty over cowardess

Just recently the nicest thing happened to me. I created my 4th char, a Ranger, and got to Post-Searing. I was looking for a run to Beacons. After spamming the trade channels finally someone offered me a free trip. So he runs me hitting all the stops, when we get to Beacons he tells me he'll take me all the way to Lions so we go on. We hit LA and he offers a run to Sanctum all still for free.
We get to Sanctum Cay and then he says "this is as far as I can run, I don't know how people run this mission." I tell him the least I could do is show him how to do it. So he runs through it and now we're at the desert. He's ecstatic about knowing how to do the run he offers to run me even more. I tell him I'm good and the only thing I need is Droknar's.
Once again, he offers it for free! We get to the Forge and I try to tip him. He keeps cancelling and even gives me a gold bow that's been collecting dust in his storage.
Talk about a nice guy!

I really haven't had anything too extravagant happen to me besides thing that guildies have done for me, but I won't list them here. The nicest things occured when I was monking suprisingly enough. I was doing THK out of boredom and we failed at the last hurdle as the group decided they wanted to split and have 2 groups of 4 at each gate. After the mission one of the members in the party sent me a message thanking me and basically said I had done a good job. The same thing happened on Hells Precipice. Like I said its really nothing in comparison to some of the things I've read here, but a few words like those are greatly appreciated in my books.
-Loki-
Someone ran me from Augury to every city in the desert for free, because he was testing a build. That was pretty cool.

I needed to buy ingots but miscalculated. The other guy payed me back the money which I payed too much. Got free stuff from my guild, but in my opinion that's what a guild is for, helping eachother out when nescesary
Ninjutsu Honor Code
I went ettin farming with my friend and she found a sup absorb there was a other guy wich we were showing how to farm it but she shared it with me

Me friend leafvander (whove i've been friends with since before Guild Wars Came out (Ex Runescape Players) gave me a dragos flat bow for nothing the other day =) despite us being equal in Wealth. and on the other side though me and leaf are leaders of our guild and we help out peeps on lowby missions to scalp out possible members for guild :P
LordMahal
A guy once ran me from LA through Kay mission, to all desert towns and missions for nothing... I just happened to ask for a runner and he was there.
On the flipside, I do nice things for people everyday, not just my guildies.

When I was a new monk someone helped me in one of the missions, he then gave me a great staff with an insightful head and a +enchantment wrapping - although not max it was good enough to use for a long time and I hadnt realised how valuable it was at the time.
He later became a friend, and latterly my guild leader - but at the time he was just a helpful person in a pick up group - he LOVES helping people.
I've also had someone give me all their green drops when we went Oro farming as I was quite poor (but that was a friend)
Overall I've met loads of helpful people in PUGs - I tend to actively recruit PUGs and dont do, or accept, blind invites so I tend to link up with other friendly people.
I've given away lots of stuff to people in PUGs and people in Ascalon - it makes me feel warm and squishy.
Another way of being nice that doesn't involve giving stuff away relates to PUGs - I now have a good guild made up of friendly folks so we always help each other on missions - but we actively invite people to our guild group as pick ups.
I particularly try to give spaces to Rangers / Mesmers who often can't get a group - they tend to have been waiting a lot longer for a group and appreciate being invited - its good for them and good for me as they tend to be more reliable once they GET a group.
As a monk - I always thank Necros for the energy
and as a Necro I provide batteries and wells as support to monks (and have been complimented on that.

I have to say the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me in the game was a free run not only to droks but back up and all the way around to sanctum kay on my second character, we became really good friends and i was inspired to run people who need it without asking for cash, i cant do the droks run but i can run pretty much anywhere else. Best way to make a game popular is be courteous and helpful to people you dont even know as long as theyre nice enough to say thank you before any run ^_^.

I know I already posted in here once, but I have another story . Last night I was running around with my post monk (I mostly play my pre E/Mo since its not my account) trying to sell some of my Guild leaders random crap... which I now know isn't crap, but whatev. Anyway, I see a Monk running around in Tats, and it was the first time I'd see a monk in Tats other than the screenshots I've seen on here, so I hop into first person and I'm just kinda looking at the Monk... don't really like the Tats that much, but they're still pretty interesting. She comes up to me and opens a trade window and shows me this gold staff (1/2 recharge/cast 9%, 4 energy, 9 armor health over 50 I believe), and then Wenslauss' Faith... and asks me if I want to buy either. Well, my monk has all of like... 1.4k on her (and seeing as how its not my account, I have no money in storage either... at least not that I can use) so I tell her that all I have is 1.4 and I doubt thats enough for either of them. Well, then she puts the gold staff back into the trade window and just gives it to me.
After that, one of her guildies invites me to a party (they asked me if I wanted to join the guild... and I wanted to, but I'm already a part of my friends guild ) and she left and grabbed her warrior. The two warriors ran around just killing stuff for me... didn't really run me anywhere, but I was willing to follow them around cuz of how nice she was. I thanked her multiple times, because that is insane for a "newb", and she is on my Friends list now
Another story... this time it was from me. I was trying to sell some random stuff in Ashford Abbey, and some Elementalist came up to me and asked me where I got my Armor and Skirt. So, I finished up my trade and offered to run her to where I got them. I ran her all the way to Ranik, helped her get the legs/seeds and did the Apple Basket quest with her. After she got her armors, then we warped to the Abbey again and I got her the boots and Ranik... just cuz she whispered asking where I got my armor I know its not much, but I hope it helped her out as she's starting. I was also talking to her about where you get skills along the way too... so hopefully some of my random banter helped her.

Well here is mine:
There was this event Called Halloween....and they gave away these pumpkin helmets. Well I logged into LA and then had to leave, so I just stayed logged in for a few hours (life took longer than I thought it would), with the hopes of catching up on the event. Well I missed it. No helm. C'est La Vie.
Well about 3 weeks ago I get a PM from a monk char, he said "Want your Helm?"
The guy had saw my helm drop, picked it up, and saved it all this time in order to give it to me. Pretty kewl huh? Not my normal GW community experience.
I tried to stoke him out at the time with some gear, but I have him on friends and hope to get him a really nice Monk item coming up.

Sitting in Heroes' Ascent last week I believe it was and got a whisper asking if I could monk for their guild group. I accept, they tell me the build and I make it. The match in the Underworld starts and I look at the names of the teams and realize I'm playing with a guild that is fairly well ranked. Few rounds later the guy thanks me for being smart, and adds me to his friend list for future games.
To top it all off, he said to his guildies "See? Player rank doesn't mean a thing" which made me feel good.

many nice things happen and cant remember all of them....but 2 or 3 nights ago, i played THK with my tank S H O N U F F =D. A few lag out drops later, our group almost got wiped at the end, but i was still standing. Luckily I brought ressurection and i snuck a res to the monk during the fight. Then i countinued the battle, while the monk tried to revive everybody else. I went into leeeerooooy jenkins mode and rushed out to the middle and tried to draw aggro off the rest of the team.
The team passed THK!
Its only been a couple of days, but one of the guys on the team sends me a pm daily "Who's the master!"
Thats pretty much how my days start now. And it just makes me laugh everytime i log on!!

Not counting my guildies, the nicest thing I got was a free run to Droks. After that just some free small runs, a couple white max damage weapons, and some compliments on my healing.

One day I was sitting in Elonas reach with a lower level character. I saw someone advertising that she was running it for 1.5k with a chance to win a free ride. So I whispered her asking how you win the free ride she explained it to me and asked if I wanted to join. At the time I was broke but my hubby was out farming for money for me so I told her thank you for the offer but I would have to pass...if however she was still doing it when he got the money then yes. She responded saying to go ahead and come I could pay when we were done. So she ran us through the mission in under 6 minutes and later when my hubby had the 1.5k I whispered her and she told me not to worry about it she didn't want it =0). Not much I know but I thought it was nice.

When i still were in Pre Searing i met one nice person, that helped me to Grendich Courthouse and told me nearly everything she knew about gw - Always when i asked her about stuff, i got a nice answer and nearly always a "I could help you if you need".. Later i asked to join the guild she were in, and she invited me and made me officer . The leader of her guild were also very nice, and everytime he logged on he always asked to help anyone.
Now i am getting quite good a PvP and i also have some nice items for PvE, and i am still a friend of her. All the friends i have now, i only have because of her - Which i am happy about.
When i started my Elementalist(Second char) and i still were in pre searing, some random guy invited me to his party and i just accepted to ask him what he wanted. He entered portal, and got his Res sig - He thanked me lots of times, even though i really no idea what was going on :P

Last night one of my guidmates wanted to do one of the desert quests - no problem, a bunch of us go meet him in the desert. S'what a guild does.
There were enough of us to do it with a couple of henchies so guildies pondered just grabbing a hench to make it simple.
I wanted to invite people - I knew we could make it with out a full group anyway - so felt it was worth taking a risk on a couple of people who were having a hard time getting a group. Guildies teased me for being soft but agreed.
I put out an advert for mesmers or rangers and said they needed to whisper for an invite. Quite a few failed dismally to whisper (ie did blind invites) but I spoke to a couple and picked them up. It turned out they were new, first characters. We breezed the mission, they followed instructions, any mistakes made were minor and it was a real pleasure to include them.
At the end of that they were so happy to have done the mission and thought we were amazing (we do have one amazing player - the rest of us were ordinary but we play well together)
At the end of that we took one guy on his final desert mission, and explained to him how to ascend, the other guy wanted a collectors item so we provided him with the materials he needed and a guild member ran him there.
You know what? - WE got loads of pleasure out of that - helping people is fun in GW's when they appreciate it. So anti jerkness is as much about appreciating generosity as it is about being generous.Sometimes I go to Ascalon and give out free stuff - it's lovely when people are greatful - and makes me screw up my face when they're just rude.
So if you can't be generous - at least be lovely when someone helps you
It's how I aquired most of my friends too

There's many things I could mention, but the one most recent would be this. I was sitting in Fisherman's Haven the other day(no clue why, I just love that town), and out of the blue i get a whisper from a guy standing next to me...and he had the same character last name as me(Nightfyre) We chatted for a bit, and had alot in common. So later he asked if I would use the Rockmolder(mesmer offhand), and gave it to me Why can't everyone in the game be this nice

Wow, wish I'd kept notes of the nice things ppl had done for me. But a few:
Two really sweet guys helping my lvl 9 ranger with Defend the No. Wall (this was my first character) saying they only wanted to test out their new bows. In the end, they complimented me on my skills (*blush*) and one gave me a nice gold bow which I used and later gave to a good lvl 9ish ranger that my Ascended ranger (yep, same girl) had just helped through Defend the No. Wall.
A warrioress ran my lvl 11 ranger (and several others) from Beacons through Sanctum and all around the Desert late one night when we were all bored---for 1K. Afterwards my lvl 13 ranger ended up running lvl 20 monks to Thirsty River a few times just for kicks, before the advent of the sand wurm epidemic.
So many whom I've met with different characters and offered either kind words, advice, weapons or help with missions or quests, just because.
The nice warrior who took notice of my necro's Well of Blood and commented on it keeping him alive when the monk was drained of energy keeping everyone else going.
A lvl 20 monk who opened a trade window with my lvl 8ish monk and gave her a gold low req max healing ankh with a casting mod. I asked how much he wanted for it and he said nothing, that it was perfect me and then mapped out of Ascalon. Recently, my monk Ascended and I gave that ankh away after having carried it this entire time.
For all you Good Guys and Gals----Thanks!

Moderately off-topic ... is there a "No posting names" rule in this thread as well? (reference "The biggest jerk ..." thread)
I fully understand the need for this in the other thread, but can't think of why not to mention someone's name here that has done a good and nice thing?
Perhaps fear of an onslaught of "Hey I heard you gave item zzz to player xxx, can I have one too?" messages?
Just curious, as there are a few stories i've collected to share, and didn't want to get in trouble (myself or the people i'd post about)

This is pretty easy. I just happened to me a few minutes ago.
Setting: normal tombs run, 2 necros, 2 monks, 6 rangers. Fast forward, 1 necro drops (orders), 2 rangers drop, I think all to ERR 7.
FOUR HOURS LATER we at Darknesses, all thinking, sweet we are all good for 2 greens each. WRONG.......2 get nothing, 2 get a lot, 1 gets 1 or so.
I couldn't believe it. But guess what.....the guys who got a lot, they spread the love. I was given a Victo's Blade. The kind benefit to arena net, his name (not full) is Elemire).
To you, sir, I salute you. You are a credit to the gaming community, and I nominate you to kindest stranger of my 860 hours of playing.

"i cant move"
(in the back of my mind deep deep like, i was thinkin mabey a lazy scammer?)
ding
player so and so has left the game
im like trust it to happen, but is m8 replies he got error 7 he just pmed me, im like soz, thought he just couldnt b bothered.
so were down to 4, 2monks and 1ele and me being the other ele. the monk says lets get this over with and rushes in, im thinking suicide but he is spamming Reversal Of Fortune and he is living we end up taking all out we got our drops after the monk picked them up and gave them to us.
so we got back and we said
"we must hav all got 2 drops each"
someone got none ends up the other ele got 3
so the monk gives him a green and i give him a green just out of good sportsmanship caus its crap when u spend 1-2 hours busting a gut to get nout

If two greens drop for me at the end of tombs, and someone gets none, I always give him one of mine. The lower value one of course, but still......

I forgot to mention a particularly nice gal. In the early days of my enjoyment of GW (with 2 or 3 lower level characters I was testing builds with), I was admiring someone's armor in Ascalon. We struck up a long conversation and I eventually asked her how long it took to afford such nice duds. She laughed and said something like "oh not long". I teasingly said that all my girls belonged to The Order of Our Lady of Perpetual Poverty (still a family joke) and she opened a trade window and popped in 10K. I told her I was really only joking not hinting or begging, but she insisted. I was absolutely flabbergasted at her generosity! She laughed and said that she could always go raid her husband's account if she really needed any gold.
I took that gold, got new armor and a weapon (the weapon I used the entire game and sold for over 3 times what I paid for it unid) and gave some of it to another guild member. I have forgotten that lady's name but not her deed that day.
