Holsters and stuff

Whats the point of buying a maxa damage felblade with all the coolest stats and kickass upgrades if nobody can see it outside of combat unless they open trade menu?
There should be a toggleable holster for your weapons and sheild/focus so u can display them slung on your back or by your side in a sheath or on a bandolier or something.
That way everybody can see you Magmas shield and icy dragon sword strapped to your back.
(and you can tell if your monk is going to pull out a hammer as soon as you start the mission, rather than get a nasty surprise)

I'd love to show off my gear in town.

This sounds like a decent idea. I doubt it would be implemented though, sadly.

Having a longsword across back with a shield over it.. Sweet.

It'd also be nice for ele's and maybe other spell casters to have their staff hover in the air next to them. Nice idea, although the graphical work required could be significant...

oooh good feedback here. Like the floating staff idea, although it could get a liitle bit silly with all those staffs flyin about, someonecould get their eye put out.
Xenrath
You mean scabbard, for swords, knives and other blade type weapons.

I definately like this idea, not only does it let you show off your stuff---it just adds to the realism of it all, makes the game a lot more immersive I'd have to say. Honestly, who's weapon magically disappears when they're in a town? It'd be wicked for you to stick it in your belt or put it on your back or something.
Along with this you could also have customizable "holsters"---you could buy different sorts of straps and scabbards for your weapons to further differentiate you from the others. Good idea me thinks.

I like this idea. I have nothing fancy, just collectors, but I'd rather have some badass weapon to show off in town.

If they can have it toggle like the headgear, that would be nice.
The idea reminds me of Devona in the intro movie from a while ago, when she pulls her sword out of a sheath behind her to slay some boss.

I'd like to see weapons slung in town too, though I'm not sure how it could be done. Bows could be slung over the back/shoulder I suppose, but swords/axes/hammers? They would interfere with/block the view of capes? Something like this maybe?
Considering it's all right handed in GW weapons would have to be on the left. That or have a scabbard slung over the left shoulder so the weapon hangs down vertically (think of how modern rifles are slung down the side/shoulder). Though again, interference from the armour model. Staves I suppose could just be carried around, at a less horizontal angle.

They would interfere with the capes.

I definitely like this idea. I mean, honestly, a lot of the 'cooler' looking shields/items are for 'bragging rights' and well..it would be nice to be able to do that, wouldn't it?
MinaDrakul
I think this would be awesome to have! Then I could show off the eternal shield I'm bidding on!
Riotact
What an awesome idea. Probly the best idea i have read for guild wars. I really hope they did this, and i dont think that it would b that hard.

As long as it's toggleable, I have nothing against it.
Easy implementation would be to add the little eye on the weapon slots like cape&helmet, 'Show in Outposts/Hide in Outposts'

How about a /flourish emote instead ? You'd take out your weapon and make some ego-inflating motions for a few seconds.
Martian
I agree it would have to be toggleable otherwise you might embarass yourself. Imagine a hulking great tank in fissure armour strutting around with a Tiny little short-sword strapped to his side. Not that ive got something against short swords.
And it would be fun to wave your stuff in peoples faces although it might put off someone from pre-sear just arriving in ascalon when a crowd of level twenty Warriors run at them waving dirty great flamberges and fellblades.

You're all talking about swords and shields and warriorstuff but what about wands and other caster offhands and weapons..

Good idea, then I can show off my incredibly ordinary weapons. Still a nice purple dye on the shield always goes down well.

Yeah this is a fantastic idea
With a bit of artistic license & creativity, i'm sure they could come up with ways to make it not interfere with the cape.
I'm thinking something like:
Swords - Scabbard on the left side, they're worked into the belt to hold them.
Hammers - Belt loop, always a belt loop. Just hangs off an iron loop. Hammer facing up.
Axe - Now this one's tricky. Can't have it on the side ala hammer as it'd slice you up a bit (although this is where creative license comes into it, i'm sure after years of training, your hero could learn to have it there too :P). Otherwise it's gotta be back-slung.
Shields - No place for these but a back-strap. It's gotta go under the cape, which may mean capes have to be reworked (hopefully not an insane amount of effort...)
Staff - Also back-slung, because they're long, they wouldn't interfere with the cape, they'd just poke out opposite sides (diagonally slung, held by a sling).
Wands - Heh, some more creative license needed here. My suggestion for these would be a flourish command, and the wand is "conjured", before it's spun in the air or something. Otherwise it could just be hung off the belt with whatever artifact they have in hand, though it would be pretty inconspicuous.
Bow & Arrow - Well well! We'd always have to arrive at this surely! If we're going for this feature, why not implement a quiver system! (no actual arrow type items in the game is a must, but seeing the arrows pulled from somewhere would be cool!) Both of these have to be back slung in a sling hung across a shoulder. Oh and arrow strings...please please please include these, they're an item, but they're invisible so far! *shamelessly begs*
I agree with you guys, it would just add so much to the immersion, could you imagine heading out into battle, and at the start of a mission/quest/outing hearing the *schhhiing* of swords being cleared of their scabbards; axes, hammers and staves being removed and flourished in some fashion; bows being removed and examined for taughtness; wands being conjured...
It'd be pretty damn cool :P Now, alot of you are going to argue whether the rewards are worth the effort put into it- remember this though, since most of us can't possibly know the extent of that effort, we could only make rather futile assumptions- all we *can* do is put ideas up and let the guys in the know-how decide how to use our material, if at all.

I was thinking the staffs could be used like a walking stick, kinda like all the Merlin and wizards pictures you see. And no, I'm not implying that all casters are old, I just think it might help to show them off without hindering the cape. Sykotic has some good ideas too; I especially like the quiver idea!
*sees that she is still getting odd looks and hurriedly backs out before the casters attack*

I love scabbards.
Swords go in scabbards on the sides, axes go on the belt, hammers go on the back, sheilds stay on the arm (to avoid annoying clipping issues), staves stay in the hand along with wands (never seen anyone shealth a staff or wand) and bows would go on the back along with a quiver.

hmm, I like the idea.
My only issue would be the numerous whispers you'd get in towns asking to see your crystalline/sephis/fell in your holster, or the storm bow, etc, and then them asking for gold b/c they think youre rich...you KNOW it'd happen

LOL it probably would, but hey thats what toggles are for
I have now come to realise just how badly this would interfere with the capes but perhaps we are not thinking outside of the box. For instance; what if the cape was'nt the only way to show guild allegience? Armbands? Crests printed on armour or shields?
Now we're thinking....

making it togglable would be great. only thing is, if this ever happened and swords/axes/shields were strapped to charac backs, everyone would be turning off their capes.
and maybe "short" characs would have stuff scraping/dragging through the ground.
lol. having a variety of crests, logos everywhere, would make your charac a walking billboard. hilarious to imagine. still nice idea though.
if anyone remembers "pristontale". this mmorpg did this concept. (the weps are displayed in towns and ppl will annoy you from time to time.)

But a more complete idea would be to:
1) Have weapons/shields/foci slung as Xenrath has proposed (sure it would interfere with capes but currently capes already have some display glitch anyway and Martian's got a good point there regarding capes)
2) Unsheathing is animated else there wouldn't be much of a realism
3) Sheathing, like unsheathing, is animated
4) Ability to sheath/unsheath even in explorable areas
Ultimately, I don't think we should settle down for half a solution. Workarounds as interim solutions always end up causing more problems (as I have learnt working in a corporate). Talking about realism, wouldn't it be great if we can equip Ale? And perhaps an emote that allows the character to toast to fun ideas like these.

....I sigh. Ebayers will get an advantage over casual players, just because they can show off the uberloot. Nubcake pugs will always take the richest players, because he's clearly better....
Weapons are for killing people, not for showing off. I wish there was an option that counted how many people you killed with the weapon though...

I'd like to expand on it a little. I would like to see a short 1/2 second animation of characters putting their weapons on their back (or whatever) in cutscenes, so their equipment doesn't just disappear as it currently does. Part of that would require the ability to holster weapons in some fashion.

What would be the point of carrying around a sword in a scabbard - you still can't see it. You'd only see the scabbard.
I don't really care what the skin is like, and I never notice another players weapons unless they ignorantly ping "I am wielding...".
