Japanese Players - first impressions
d3kst3r
Well I've seen quite a lot of Japanese players in the arenas lately. A few days ago I took a few of them on in Random Arenas. Initial reaction - unskilled: I was able to walk my mesmer right up to their monk and kill him while 2 japanese rangers shot away at me. I received no interrupts and the damage I received was low enough for me to survive on self heal.
Today however was a different story. Once again in random arenas I noticed their monk was luring and doing a great job healing, they had a Ranger/Mes with IW using Tiger's Fury, they had knock down hammer wars and the works. Overall my impression is that they learn extremely fast.

Japanese Pug Groups are really Nice.. @ HA...
i saw a r3-6+ Japanese Pug Group.... Wow!
d3kst3r
How the heck would the Japanese get to rank 6? They've only had the game for a very short while.

eh... how do you know they are Japanese in the first place? and also, one group of "Japanese" do not represent the whole "Japanese" community either
Avarre
Presumably they can order the game from somewhere they understand the language of and play?

Both JP and CH(TW) had been in alpha/beta test of their version since dec.

I haven't yet lost to a Japanese group, but my team's victories become less substantial every day. They're not nearly there yet,but well on their way..

Kanji is a chinese character system, but used in japanese language ( I myself study Japanese at University)
Japanese people names are written in Katakana as are english names or words in japanese.
Katakana and Hiragana are strictly japanese, so its possible they were chinese then no?

I don't understand the point of this thread. If a community is new to the game, then of course they wouldn't be as experienced as those who have been exposed to it for nearly a year. At least that would seem logical to me... why does it become so intriguing? And as MrScaRy said, it doesn't represent the entire "Japanese" community either.

Japan is indeed learning fast. I'd wager that if we thought korea was tough, we are in for a double treat once Japan comes into its own.
myword
yes, GW has only been 'officially' released in Japan recently, but this doesn't mean that they haven't been able to obtain copies of GW all this time

well japanese kanji is from chinese kanji and korean is similar to the two, im in japanese 4 right now i should know kanji. if they are rank 6 japanese, doesnt mean they are living in japan playing the game, they can be anyway playing with the japanese version, say someone living in america asking for a shipping of a copy of GW in japanese version to give as a gift to his japanese friend living in america.same kanji diffrent region. hence he is in the american districts.
ehh people scared of korean, have you noticed america keeps favor more than europe and korea put together. a build is a build it only counts on the experinced player who can play the build better.

Soon it'll be Asia v. Europe and their Commonwealths v. The Americas...and Asia and Europe will dominate HoH.
Deathqueen
Looks to me like EUROPE has been dominating lately. I haven't been able to enter UW/FOW at my times to play in days now. waaaaahhhh (smile)

For some reason I think that the Japanes players overall are still catching up to the more experienced countrys in terms of game wise, but when I came upon my first Japan represented team they put up a good fight but still lost.
I think that foreign people have a lot more times and the brain capacity to devote to games and adapt very quickly to differant playing styles.
but thats just my experiences

Japan are just new atm and get rolled in tombs or GvG, they will learn eventually but it will take some time for them since they need to be UAS to be truly competative.
But they will learn faster than we did, Observer mode will see to that, they will copy/modify current builds untill they use their own builds when they unlock enough things.

Europe has been dominating HoH lately. If it's not for the players actually playing from the European countries, and they do have some dominating guilds, then it's more likely the Aussies and Kiwis.

the amazing thing is there english is flawless, they say stuff like "omg" when you spike them, and they actially greet you in proper english, and ask how you are etc, koreans never do that lol.
zoozoc
im guessing that the japanese ppl who are rank 3-6 played before it was officially released in japan, they could of easily got an imported version from somewhere else.

Know what I really, really, REALLY wish?
I know it's odd, but I wish Anet would've named the different regions by fictional names. Like; US=Ascalon, EU=Kryta, Asia=Cantha, or something of that sort. The actual names don't matter, as long as they're fictional.
I think it would've gone a long way towards curtailing the shockingly "patriotic" attitudes that are so prevalent in this game. By "patriotic", of course, I mean, "Lame Europeans!", "Jackassed Koreans!", "Bloody arrogant Americans!"
I think there's plenty of rampant nationalism in my real life these days. I don't really need it in my video games, too.
Why am I taking the time to share this? I have no idea. :P

Well in my previous experience with how japenese game in Magic The Gathering, which has a lot of similarities with GW, they always came up with builds that looked like complete crap on paper but actually kicked ass.

i will use this thread to say one of my normal comments for this situation

if they come.....i wish they have their own channel because in a game i used to play called IGUNZ, so much japan players came and started speaking japeneses...
It would be pretty sad if the japenese flooded the game with japanese trading spam.

I question about HoH districts from other regions, are they as restrictive and stuck up about rank as the American Districts?
The reason I ask is because if this is not the case, it explains why the other countries are beginning to and will continue to dominate HoH. American HoHers tend to be arrogent build fanatics who are hell-bent on having only R3or better players, of certain types only. This limits the number of potentially good players in their ranks, and the developement of a new build by accidental PUG victories. It's a real shame, American practices are our biggest threat. I'm an American saying this, just fyi. I stopped trying to get into HoH teams a while ago, my rank just isn't high enough, and IWAYing is not the answer, no offense to IWAYers.
Translation of the above, if American players make a build, someone can copy it, if someone copies it and improves upon it while the Americans hold to only the original build, the American build loses.

It's not surprising, considering Japan is known for technology in this "day and age."

I think the Japanese players will adapt to this game very quickly since Japanese gamers have HEAPS of experience with the whole skills combo/countering etc. thing from games like Final Fantasy and Magic the Gathering or even Pokemon. They can get very good at stacking skills etc. and using them to good effect.

Meh, I'm not sure if the quick learning gene is consistent. A fought a japanese ranger using healing breeze instead of troll ungeunt.
