I started a ranger roughly 4 days ago since I needed a break from my warrior and necro. It's L18 now, fully geared, grotto druids, barrage, etc... and just got to Crystal Desert. Grouping has not been terribly difficult. In fact, my new toon has managed to survive almost every group wipe out and rez the rest of the party, eventually finishing each mission.

Mesmers seem to be less desirable than rangers based on what I've seen.

Ra/Rt are going to be so popular it's not even funny. Spirit Spam with Oath Shot and Weapon tricks with Barrage.

Nothing makes me happy as disrupting that annyoing war stomp, or disrupting AND disabling for 20 seconds Orison of Healing on a monk boss. I've also been playing the ranger most of my GW career and seeing things like these disrupted, is just a thrill!

EDIT:
Just a little note on the versatility of the ranger - so far I've played as R/Me with Fragility and various conditions; a R/W runner; a R/W with Cyclone Axe + Apply Poison and stances for more defense; a R/Mo just to have Rebirth instead of Res Sig in Tombs runs, probably should've used Judge's Insight also ; R/N with a few curses to cripple the group some more (but this build really eats energy fast, maybe I should've used Marksman's Wager, hmmm); Barrage, Tiger's Fury and spirits; R/E with Ward Against Harm and Conjure Frost (the most fun build I've played with, kinda slow to do damage, but protecting the party a LOT), R/E with Glimmering Mark and Conjure Lightning (too bad Glimmering has such a short Blind duration); Poison Arrow, Dual Shot and Ignite Arrows (the one I played most); Quick Shot + Tiger's Fury and any preparation; Trapper; Beastmaster with my friend Seronja the lizard (the animals can TANK) and probably a few more I can't remember now. And all of them were fun and effective.

I can't believe all the posts that are saying that rangers are hard to play. This is by far the EASIEST profession out there to master. I was able to hench the entire game with the exception of Hell's Precipice (couldn't keep NPC's out of the lava with the Lich). I haven't been able to hench with any other class. The DPS the ranger does is unreal if you stack skills right, not to mention you can interrupt healers fairly easily. This class is a no-brainer.

Romeo I noticed you havent responded for about a week now. I hope your still reading this thread.
I have been playing this game for 5 mths now & everyday my knowledge of this game increases along with the enjoyment of it. My 1st character was a ranger, I followed that up with every profession. I obviously dont have all of them due to limitations on an account but heres what I kept out of all the combinations I have played. R/Mo, W/Mo, Mo/Me & Me/E.
Off all those characters my Ranger & monk are called on the most. They both are called on equally. My warrior is only called on now to run a guildie somewhere for the most part. Every once in a while I will actualy help someone wiht my warrior. But for the most part people ask me to bring my ranger for interrupts or my monk.
It take me less than 5 mins to put together a team to do a trapper or barrage/pet run. In fact I cant enter tombs without getting acouple invites. UW there are always other trappers looking to do a run. I havent been to SF in along time with my ranger but the last time I was there I was asked to come along as trapper/interrupt.
In game wise meaning running quests or missions. My ranger is always requested to come along. Depending on where they are in the game I am ask to come as a damage dealer or an interrupter.
When I was leveling my ranger I never had a problem getting in a group to do a quest. There really is alot a ranger can do. No where in the game will you see a situation where a ranger is just sitting around not doing something. But there are places where a warrior is useless. Not for the whole mission but for a part of the mission. For example, Dunes of Despair, yes you could have the Ghost justopen the bridge and then rush the rangers guarding it. But the best way is to take them out before you lower the drawbridge. Warriors as a warrior cant help here. Yeah if he is a W/R and has attributes & a bow he can do some damage. But no where near the damage the ranger & other casters are doing.
Give the ranger a chance, you have rushed the game. Go back help people by going with them on missions as your ranger. See for yourself what a ranger can do & how helpful the are in the group & the game.

Lol, this is so funny because I posted a thread like this 2 weeks after I first started playing GW when I chose a R/Mo.

Don't worry, just take henchies. That's what I did, and beat the game. Now I do UW every day, and get groups lightning fast.
