Just sold my Victos Battle Axe for 45g! What a great feeling this is. I feel like an idiot. At least i will be more careful in the future.

You could report that person to Anet, if you have a screenshot and the name, if that helps.
ShadowStorm
If it makes you feel any better I sold 8 ectos for 83g about a month ago.

There's a few easy ways to avoid getting scammed that I follow everytime I sell something for more than 10k.
1. Example: You're selling Victos Battle Axe. You want to sell it for 45k, and someone whispers that they want to buy it. After you put in the axe and they put in the money, watch the lower left part of the chat box and wait for the "xxx has accepted your offer." As soon as you see that, double check the money, then accept. NEVER rush through a trade.
2. If you're overly cautious, like me, sell things for weird prices. Selling Victos Battle Axe for 44,999 gold will not only interest people to buy it, but will help prevent people from scamming. It's harder to fake 44,999 gold than it is for them to stick a 45 in the wrong slot. I've actually sold a weapon for 15k once to a guild member, but they put in 15g in purely by mistake. Sometimes people are in a bigger rush than you.
Just keep your eyes peeled, and when someone tries to scam you in-game, let everyone know. That's the best way to stop someone.

That's great advice Raab
I've never been scammed myself either, since i'm one of those over-cautious people too, but the xxk xxxg is a good trick (never thought of that). Thx

Another thing buyers tend to do now is state the figure only, e.g.
SELLER: WTS blah, blah, blah 45K
BUYER: I'll buy for 45
SELLER: OK
This gives the seller the ability to give either 45K or 45g. For most of us, it's obvious the seller wants 45K, but agreeing to 45 gives a little edge to the scammer as he/she can say they meant 45g and you agreed.
When buyers do this, I always follow up with a confirmation (in this case) "For 45K, it's yours. Okay?" and see what their response is.
If at anytime a person I'm trading with just cancels, or modifies the offer for no reason (i.e. what they offered was correct in the first place) I back out of the trade and look for someone else.
When buying or selling something expensive, never rush and take your time to check and double check the items or gold amount. It probably took you a long while to get your gold or that item you're selling, so an extra bit of time during trading to ensure you get what you want shouldn't be a problem.
So hey, let's be careful out there.

it's not that you signed a contract or something. if you don't want to sell, you don't need to.
if he offers you 50g instead of 50k, just laugh at him and say "nice try" or something and move on. there is no contract or stuff that forces you to give your stuff away...
neoteo
some people really enjoy doing this , i hate so much selling and buying , i give most of my greens to guildies ... even if they leave the guild the next day i dont care , at least i feel good giving stuff.

I didn't mean that you were obligated to sell at that agreed price. What I meant was, after agreeing and you continued with the trade quickly without checking properly and only found out afterwards. You can't truly argue that you got scammed because you didn't get what you were expecting.

when things like this happen it's the sellers fault and it's a stupid thing to report.
only thing i can say, u live and u learn. just assume from the start any1 will attempt a scam and double chek everything.

What did they do wrong ? this is very sad to see that some people are supporting scammers now.
The 45g instead of 45K scam just is lame, and now these crappy scammers are trying to fool around saying(i said i would pay 45 not 45K, gg for reporting). Anet should ban those people, purely and simply, no matter they say.
And for the background, no i've not been scammed yet but almost had once (people offering 8g for an ecto).
Big_Iron
Someone tried to pull that on me. They put in 50g when I asked for 50k. I called them on it and they quickly left the game. I'm pretty sure they were trying to scam me since they made a hasty exit.
Zero G
I did this to a person once.. I put in 500G instead of 5k for something I was buying, they took the trade then I realized what I had done. I had to chase that guy all over before he would let me open the trade window with him to fix it. He didn't even realize I had made the mistake.
xxSilhouette
That has got to suck...
Anyhow - Its good to double check things and pay close attention when trading, someone tried scamming me once - i was selling a FDS for 10k and they put 10g, but I caught it and then they actually gave me 13k beacuse they felt bad about the mistake...sometimes it's not intentional but others it is. for example everytime i go to get money out of storage, if i go to take out say 500g i always type 500k without really meaning to.
Just be more careful with trade, you can try reporting them as well if you have a SS and name.

It should only take a few seconds to confirm that the trade is OK. Then hit "Accept".
If anything distracting happened, whether in the game in your real-life house, check with extra care.
I don't think one has to get more careful than that.
-----------------------
However, when I hit "Cancel" by mistake (and I often do), I QUICKLY whisper something to that effect, so that I don't appear to be a scammer. Most commonly, the exact problem is that I put 1 rather than the agreed amount of a crafting item into the trade window, and the only way I know to fix that is to cancel and start over.

You can also double click on the item you put in the trade, it will come back to your inventory
Cyan The Archer
Just make sure it arent you who are making the mistake.
I once got Brohn's Staff(Around 80-90k it was worth) and i got a buyer quite fast. Everytime i accepted the trade it got canceled(around 3times), we both thought the other one was a scammer and we flamed each other abit.. but then i realized that i had 50k in my inventory! I was so embarrassed.
So make you it isnt your fault if you think they are trying the: Cancel, Cancel, Cancel - Put in "a small amount of gold" and accept fast scam :P

I think they ought to get rid of platinum and work only with gold. I don't see any upside to having the two different values. It seems to only help scammers.
Or at least change the trade interface to show all values in thousands of gold.

i have no sympathy for these people, i have never been scammed, on any online game i have ever played, i have this thing... what is it called again.... o yeah common sense
people doing wierd stuff SHOULD raise a red flag in your head, just assume anybody you dont know is a scammer and trade accordingly

That almost happened to me except I saw the 20g and I was like fcuk you to the person lol

My favorite scam is the people who try to trade you the mursaat tokens (think thats the name) instead of ecto. Someone tried to get me the other day with this one. What makes them think that those 2 items look alike in a trade screen...lol. But I guess there are probably people who fell for it too.

I think in total its been tried 10 times with me to pull this trick, never worked and never will because I read the screen before clicking accept. That's all it takes..reading the trade interface before clicking accept.

45g is a good price
45k for a sundering axe, that is a scam!

Anet should not ban these people. It is your own fault if you fall for this kind of scam. The trade system is very secure compared to the one in Diablo II, if you fall for this kind of scam then that's your problem.
Remember that Anet isn't police, they provided us with a great game and they wouldn't ban anyone for doing that especially if you look at how good their trade system is (really.). I'm sure they have better stuff to do than ban every little scammer.
Really, if every single of you people took the time to make sure you are trading for the right offer, their trick would never work and they wouldn't even bother to try it. They do because it works.

Perhaps its actually harder to read 50000 vs 50p 0gp? Or is that questionable too? Its just as easy to screw up 50000 vs 5000 btw and may I remind you that the comma is used in Europe to denote decimals? So your great idea would mean to me you are giving me 50 gp if its formatted 50,000.
So stop the implications, please, and consider that the rest of the world also plays GW.
ROASTBEEP
Lol I like the people in LA who spam WTS 15^50 items and they are surprisingly cheaper than what you expect. But when you ask to see the item its 15% while health is below 50% and when you tell them that they still try and sell it to you at like 90% less of what they were spamming it for and most of the time its the Chinese farmers.

Someone tried to scam me once for a superior vigor.
They were around 65k at the time and he put in 65g.
I told him good try and its 65k so he pmed me seeing its worth the shot.
So this person was out for scamming.
What I do usually is be carefull and check to make sure that the amount is right.
Also they are 2 seperate boxes, one for K and one for G.
Make sure that the numbers are in the left box not the one on the right or closer to the edge of the window.
One thing I also do is when they start canceling (even if they are legit sometimes) I just tell them NVM and that the item is no longer for sale.

I nearly got scammed like this before. When i first got my Malinon Shield. Some guy want to buy it for 90k (back when it were worth 75k or more) I thought sweet i got a great deal. Than the guy pm me "hurray up man, i got to go better do it fast". So i open a trade window. He put in 90 gold the first time. Told me it was lag. Cancel and did it again at 90 gold and told me to accept. Luckly, i looked at the screen and cancel on him.
My Sweet Revenga
If it makes you feel any better, I managed to get one back the other day.
Well ok it's more like he scammed himself. Didn't think he'd be dumb enough to hit accept, and THEN offer more But I'm not complaining. I most certainly hope I wasted a lot of his time, and that's 10 less mursatt tokens he'll be selling for 5-6k's
