That depends on the retailer. Typically a preorder package is just a promise to buy a copy of the game when it's released. Any retailer that refuses to sell you a more expensive version is foolish and you should shop elsewhere.

If that's the CE then I'm going to get the standard edition. Nothing in it seems to catch my eye.

It is good and all... but... THEY HAVEN'T TELL US WHICH ITEM IS WHICH STORE! ><

Just have to wait.

Don't want to end up with a lousy war pick (don't even have a single warrior in my pve slots) all over again. I still can't get over how much the Western preorder had sucked comparing to Eastern.

Yea ... none of the retailers, mainly GS or EB tell of recieving these items. We receive them when the game releases? Can't be, since we get a keycode for the beta and other such things.

Also, Amazon and BB have prices at $39 when GS and EB are at $49.

Ok the way it works, at least for the Europeans is that we can get the box, which gives hard physical items, plus the in-game items. Or we can order online, not receive a box and only get the in-game items.
I'm still waiting for official word on what will happen to those of us who order the CE as a pre-order.

Ice, I have an alterior motive too Divine Aura which I should have got with my CE for chpt1 but which has NEVER worked.

You get to play 24hrs ahead of time with the boxed version too. If you were looking at the page it states that the "box" includes the same as the online version + extras.

good point my bad, i had presumed 31st march was the release date, not the preorder boxed release date, therefore negating the fact that you can play 24 hours early, nevermind.

What???

In Europe we can only get the pre-order box with the guide and cool stuff in it as well as the preview access key in stores on the 31st March? How does that make sense? That's after the preview!
If I already have the key from the PvP Preview Weekend in January, does that work for the Preview Event coming up as well?

Symeon, the way it has been explained in a thread around here somewhere is that if we want to get into the WBE we need to order online, we can then request a box which we won't get until the end of March. Since most of us own GW anyway, we don't need to worry about it all that much

Well, if you are going to be ordering Factions anyway, it would help us for you to order through our affiliate link. We try to keep our ads to just the top of the page on the forums (on the homepage there's a skyscraper a bit down... I bet a lot of you didn't know that was there ) And for all those who have ad blockers and what not, this would be a way to support the site. We don't ask for donations here and we even have some very awesome contests coming up in the next few months. So any help you can give the site helps the community.

Point to note for all Aussies and Kiwis: Amazon will not sell to us, so don't even bother trying.

EB the main reseller in Australia didn't have the pre-order or CE for GW and - though I think Gaile said she though we would get them this time around - the manager at my local store said that there were no plans on stocking either until they saw how sales were going in the US.

If you can't find a point of sale, PM me and I'll let you know the company I've been using.

Well, as much as I would love to pre-order since I love this game, I don't feel that all questions have been answered.

If you pre-order and want a hard copy, how can it be assured that you will still have the benefit of getting to play early? Will the hard copy be shipped to my address but I download the client? If that is the case, how would I get my access key if I am waiting for an arrival in the mail?

The only reason for me to pre-order online would be for the assurance of being able to play early. Yet, I want a hard copy too. I don't think that is unreasonable. Yet, that question when asked previously in this thread went unanswered. I think it is a valid concern and that more people want to know as well.

NOt too experienced with pre-ordering games like this, sorry.

Ok, from this line alone, we can tell 2 things.

1) There will only be 2 pre-order items that come with Factions - 1 for the assassin and 1 for the ritualist. So there's not going to be a lot of variety to the items like in the Prophecies campaign pre-order.

2) It sounds like if you buy the pre-order this time, you'll get BOTH of the items, so you won't have to shop around in order to collect all the pre-order items like you had to do with the Prophecies campaign pre-orders.

Anyone care to refute my observations?

I've already preordered with EB considering the last time I looked for the CE before GW was actually released, the only place I found it was some online store I'd never even heard of at the price of AU$199. On top of that, EB didn't release any preorder items either, so preordering was practically useless.

I mean okay, ArenaNet has done a damn good job with the game thus far and keeping things in order, but good god, AU$100 is a lot of money for a game, which is what GW cost originally and what Factions is going to cost. Yes it is worth it, yes it does nearly break the bank, and if that's the case, we expect at least some treatment on equal levels.

All stores have the same in-game item for the two new proffesions so it doesn't matter where you buy it at least thats the way the description descriped it.

Visited my EB here in australia today and got a blank expression.
Guess it's too much to have hoped that EB worldwide would have a preorder bonus.

This is the way I interpreted it too, so I'm just going to go ahead and get the preorder box without even knowing for sure.

Maybe someone will answer my questions if they are numbered and stuff.

1.If you pre-order and want a hard copy, how can it be assured that you will still have the benefit of getting to play early?

2.Will the hard copy be shipped to my address but I download the client?

3.If that is the case, how would I get my access key if I am waiting for an arrival in the mail?

I am sorry that I don't know these things. I have never pre-ordered a game before. I am not to experienced with this sortof thing. Guild Wars is the first game that I have really wanted to play on a daily basis at all. I guess all of my questions revolve around pre-ordering to play early. How this is possible to do while waiting for your hard copy to arrive.

1) Because the game content will be streamed to you whether or not you own the game. Afterall, even if you don't get Factions, you will have places where you'll interact with them.

2) Probably not until the game is actually released. I don't think you get a hard copy if you order online from ncsoft, and whether you pick it up in the store or have it delivered depends on where you buy it from. Not a huge issue though, as you can play with or without the CD download, using the client off of guildwars.com Usually, they link to it in a big noticeable spot during special events.

3) You get an access key in the pre-order package, or emailed to you if you order online, depending on which you opt for.

Something along the lines of the above. It's rather late at the moment, so I might have gotten something wrong, but afaik, it's the way they do things.

I ordered the CE from a UK company and paid only $5 over what they were originally charging in Australia for the game, and that included postage and handling. It is almost a garantee that EB will not stock the CE, to the best of my knowledge they didn't even stock it in the US - their online listings did not list it at all. I'm going to be calling the store I normally order from early tomorrow morning to find out what the deal will be for overseas orders. I'll let you know what I find out.

Thank you for the info. It's just that I am not experienced with pre-ordering at all. The only thing I have ever pre-ordered before are Harry Potter books, lol. Never a game, because I have never really been into games as much as I am into GW.

I think I'm missing something here....How much difference is 24 hours really going to make?

I mean sure you get to play 1st, but after a month who's going to care?

I'm just going to wander down to my local games store on the day of release & buy it then....

If I am missing something please let me know.
