This should coves any Pre-order time questions. Copied from the GW site:

Guild Wars will be on most store shelves on April 28th, but preorder customers will be able to enter Guild Wars on 12:01 a.m. Pacific on April 27th. The period of Early Access will extend for 48 hours. |

The Early Access period extends for 48 hours. Does this mean I can play from 12:01 am Pacific on the 27th until Midnight the 29th? After the 29th I'll need a release code. I just want to confirm that I won't have to run out of release day and get the game, which kind of destroys the Early Access since it's only 1 day.

I am playing the Beta weekend, and its great and i was just curious after they wipe your charactor, are you going to get to pick your secondary class again also? I know you start back at level 1 with no items ect, no skills i imagine.
I dont know that I want to keep my charactors secondary class in the full version and i would rather not go through the hour of waiting to reuse the charactors name.

Another question I have is regarding the dates listed. 12:01am on the 27th until 12:01am on the 28th is only 24 hours. Where are they getting 48 hours from? I'm assuming that everyone that didn't preorder will have access at 12:01am on the 28th since that's the release date.
EDIT:

How many gamers are going to be expected?
Does the development team have a good idea on how many players from foreign countries, are going to be envolved?
I do hope the team is prepared
As in, already hired people who are bilingual!
Thanks!

Will the areas you have explored be removed from your map? I don't want to have to re explore so much land

I would say it is best to think of what should go on like this:
On April 26, pre-orders can go pick their copy up from the retailer. At 12:01am on the 27th you can start playing.
On April 28, the stores put all their copies on sale(maybe have partylike WoW or something). At 12:00 am on April 29th, they can access the realm.
This is normal for pre-orders, though most I've seen only gave 24 hours. We just get 48.

Hmm..seems like that would defeat the purpose of a 48 hour early access for pre-orders.

24 for the day of the 27th for the early preorders
24 for the day it is released the 28 th
your pre order key is good from 12:01 AM on the 27th to 11:59 PM on the 28 th (48 hours) at which the retail key is needed to continue
Bgnome
pre-order people have a 48 hour window to input a retail code with uninterrupted play. people who did not pre-order can only play when they input the retail code. if a person who pre-ordered does not put in a retail code by midnight on the 28th, they will no longer be able to play.

Ah, now I think I completely understand. You can play using your beta key for 48 hours, but you will only get a 24 hour head-start on people who did not preorder.
bad attempt at a timeline follows:
EDIT:
In essence, this 48 hour period of access is like one last beta event.
Btw, what is "Ministry of Knowledge"? Is that someone with a high post count, someone at guildwarsguru.com, or is that someone from ArenaNet?

Hi to all.
this is something that has been on my mind the last few days playing this game.
I have heard many rumors regarding the 'wiping' of your character, Can someone please go into specific detail about what Exactly happens to your character prior to retail release.
I would preferably like an Admin to answer to this question, as I nee someone that knows what they are talking about
Things I would like to know:
Is a Guild Kept intact?
Is any gold collected left or removed?
Are any items that have been collected or used, kept?
If your character went to 'War' will the charaters still be in that world?
Will any Uncovered map area be saved
Will any Portals that have been found be kept
Will any Quests that have been completed or started be saved?
An addition to the last question is: If quests are saved, how is a charater meant to level up from Lvl 1, as the majority of the experience is gained through completing the quests.
All in all, I dont think it is really fair that people who have purchased the beta Preorder should be Penalised for the people that didnt buy it, as some people have spent many hours playing, reporting bugs etc.
Well this is the end of my speech, I know I speak for most people that played the last Beta Test this weekend, so really the answers that are recieved in this thread can be for everyone that played and that have the same thoughts on this subject.
thanx

I'm far from a mod, but as has been said many times, your character completely starts from scratch. I'm not sure if you keep your Guild, but other than possibly that, your name is the only thing you keep from what I understand. No gold, no quests, no other worlds, none of that.
Also, it would be awesome to keep your characters, but if they're deleted it's not really a punishment. We are the ones who benefitted by being able to learn the game, where to go, which skills to use, how to use certain commands. It will be that much easier when the game really comes out. While new users are trying to figure out all that stuff, we'll quickly be on our way to post-searing and beyond. We got a sneak-peek at the game before others, got to check it out and try different things, get a feel for what the game would be like...it's not that bad of a punishment really.

I don't see it as a punishment. I think that the journey is a lot more interesting than the destination, so playing the game (questing) is a lot more fun than being level 15 when the game comes out.
It's like Zeppelin said, we had the chance to get to know the game, no more no less.
I hope everything will be reset, that would mean more fun for the same price.

ProLogic, I think you're completely missing the point of a Beta.
It is in place to help ArenaNet polish the game before it is released.
Those lucky enough to play as Alphas have had a large amount of input as far as gameplay and in game changes.
Those of us that pre-ordered have a luxury that few games offer. They gave us
the oppurtunity to play a game for $10 to ensure we liked what we saw. It also gave us input and a voice when that would otherwise be left up to those in closed Beta.
As far as character wipe is concerned, I've NEVER seen a company allow people allow players to keep Beta characters. Even the Alphas are going to start from square one. Just because you paid $10 for the pre-order doesn't give you precedence over someone that did.
I think you're missing the big picture which is being able to play a Beta that would otherwise be unavailable to you, not to mention the fact that you get an in-game item that those that didn't pre-order will. That alone should be worth your $10.
Just my thoughts,

So basically I won a pre-order product at a gaming competition thing... So like I have no idea how it works... Presumably from what I am seeing here I need to get a retail key. Does that mean I need to buy the game retail? or has my pre-order product already reserved me a copy? If it is reserved... then how do I claim it?

The wipe is coming, yes, and it will wipe out everything but your character's name. If past experiences are true you'll log into the game come release and find them replaced by level 1 Warriors or something along those lines. You can then delete them and start a character with the name you're holding. Guilds, the ladder, WaW, everything will be wiped, too. Guilds will need to be reformed once you get in game.
A wipe at this point is really necessary because there hasn't been one in a while. People were still walking around with outdated remnants of past versions of the game. There were still skill rings and skill charms floating around, crafting materials from far enough back wouldn't stack, old armors could still be worn, Swiftness weapons, +3/-1 energy stealing swords, and so on. Put aside any issues of "fairness" or "starting everyone from scratch" they need a complete wipe to make sure that there are no broken items from older versions still hanging around.
Your pre-order key from your pre-order will let you test the game out from the 27th through the 28th. After that it's useless and you'll need to purchase the full retail game. I'm not sure if having your pre-order will count as a discount on your retail purchase or not considering how you got it, though.

During the last hours of this last BWE, I was able to ask Gaile about the guilds and if they would be wiped. She informed me that they would not be wiped, but devs have been known to change thier mind at the last second. I though I post a message for everyone.

The placeholder character is put in place to reserve your name only, and you will want to recreate your character with your chosen profession and appearance.
We understand that resets of any kind can be a bit frustrating. But it is essential that all players start Guild Wars on an equal footing, so resetting accounts is a necessary process. There is one exception, though: After the pre-release reset and as a thank you to those who have shown advance support of Guild Wars, there will be an opportunity for preorder customers to have one day of Early Access into the game. The levels, skills and items that a player acquires during the Early Access period will not be reset, and the character(s) will maintain ranking and inventory as the game officially opens. Early Access for Guild Wars will open at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time (08:01 GMT) on April 27th, and end at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on April 28th (07:59 GMT April 29th). Early Access will furnish preorder customers with up to 48 hours of early access. More details will be provided closer to launch. |

Sorry if this was covered somewhere, but if you got the pre-order from Amazon or another place online, how do we get the retail version in time to participate in 48 hrs before launch? Not long after I ordered GW a Gamestop opened up in the area, so can I get a retail version there even though I didn't get the pre-order there? Any info would be appreciated!

I have literally been waiting 4-5 years to be able to start a mmo on it's opening day. Heck, let alone a day earlier than everyone else. This is excellent. Need to get all the food and drink items needed for a 48hr grind.

It is my understanding that guild hall will be wiped, it the sence that you *will* have reregister your guild and you *will* have to come up with the 1000 gold to to have a cape/guild hall agin.

Are our characters wiped beginning on the 27th at 12 am or the 28th at midnight? Starting early, to me, means that those that pre-ordered get to have a 24 hr. advantage over the ones that didn't.
If this is the case, I will gladly use a little vacation time as to take full advantage of the opportunity .
If, however, starting early only means that we get to play our old characters for 24 hrs., that would be kinda dumb to take a vacation day for . I just need to be sure, although it seems likely we get an early start with our NEW toons. Old ones are probably wiped already.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
Not that I havn't read the millions of posts saying that the game will be released no sooner than the 28th but amazon claims to release it on the 22nd!
Here's a quote:
This item will be released on April 22, 2005. You may order it now and we will dispatch it to you when we receive it from our supplier. Please note that release dates are subject to change.
And before you ask I did read the last line it just seems a bit wierd that if the quote is not true then why havn't they updated their site.
I'm very confused please help
Thanks

Take note of my post from above, when a dev states that guilds WILL NOT be wiped, then that means with a high probability of confidence that what the dev has said is true. Keep in mind though, devs are human and can change their minds at the last second.
