Does anyone get a bad feeling about factions
Roomaster
Personally I think factions will ruin the game for all guild wars players who dont feel like spending money on it. I recently got this game, and am really not willing to pay another 50$. Also I am getting a really bad feeling about the "assassin", I remember in the beggining of WoW the Rogue was pretty much the most annoying imba thing you could be. It was annoying to play the game because you would be getting ganked all the time, and you couldnt hit them because you were constitanly stunned or they keep going stealth.... anyways im not trying to fight with anyone about that. I am just saying the assassin sounds like its gunna be a really superior class. Another thing is the fact that personally I dont want to play with people who are on Factions. I was reading the FAQs and it said that people on factions can team with people on regular guild wars, which means they can also PvP agianst eachother? For some reason it doesnt seem very fair that they still get to PvP with non-faction players. Basically all I am saying is that if the Ritualist, and Assassin are rigged.. I will just sell my account ..

Why would they knowingly upset the balance of the game?
LoneDust
Guild wars: Prophecies was the best $50 entertainment I've gotten in a while. To me the 8 sleepless weekend betas/previews I played in worth along worth $10 each, the retail itself worth $10, but the grind in retail took away $40.

You don't have to buy Factions once it comes out. Ruvaen is right on the second part.

From what I've seen, Warriors still hold the title of best DPS out there. Assassins are damn good condition spammers, which can be very dangerous in the right setup.
Assassin, Sword and Axe Warrior pressure is going to be a pain.

the only unbalance i see when factions will be released is that most Tyria cities (except farming cities) will be ghost cities ,can't make team to do mission or bunch of quests .. it's will be hard to play prophecies 6 months after the release of Factions and Tyria will be deserted for long time
Ruvaen
Hopefully, Tyria will be populated by people that are introduced to GW by the release of Factions. =X

Most of these worries make no sense.
1. it wont be unfair to play agaisnt rits and assassins, they arnt uber, they are balanced like the other classes.
2. You can still get items from factions, its just you have to trade to get them.
3 tyria will still stay populated, people will not only want to still go there to cap and buy skills for their characters, and get certain items, but they will want to travel there with the new classes.
4. this is GW, not wow, people cant steal stuff from you.
5. you can have factions people on your team, so its not unfair.
6. The game wont instanly be bad if you dont buy factions, you just wont have any new areas. IF you recently got GW, then getting factions would be a bad idea untill you actually have played through the version you have.

Heh, after reading the first post. DUDE Guild Wars is a balance game no way any profession can be SUPERIOR. Assain said the skills aren't to great in damage and skills wise. The Ritualist I can see help holding HOH .
If new is scary, guess sell the account and move on. New content and features and the cost of a game out the window. If not , if ya live with ya parents dish out some more cash, than if it came from your own pocket toss the game.

Plus, once people start completing all the quests in Cantha, they'll probably take their new characters to Tyria, just to try them out.
That's my guess, anyway.

Theres no need to worry, the assassin and the ritualist will be balanced just like the next classes that will come with the new chapters. Tyria won't be a ghost world, do any of you stop and look at how many new people come in the pre-searing a day! I have and let me tell it's mad I spent three days there with my first character and always saw new people. No class is uber period, the assassin is very verstile so it only appers to be uber powerful but in all reality it's just like any other class. Example an assassin fresh out of the pre-earing will still get stomped by charr like any other class. You will not have level 20's from Tyria poping up in the starting areas of Cantha thats safe to say. Far as money goes it is always going to be $50 just becuase it's large, amazing, often updated, the customization is uncomparable, and well it's free when you install it.

And of course, there will be a large amount of people going over to Tyria with their Assassins and Ritualists and showing off.

Im definetely going back to Tyria for some action with my ritualist

I will most likely start a new char in Cantha then switch to an existing char in Cantha. It may be awhile until I am back in Tyria.

I'm buying it as soon as its out and EB opens and I got a Bo staff for large violent crowds, try me *swing Bo staff in wide arch* Bonzi!!! I want it for the new quasts and assassin even though I've yet to finish my first run through of the game with my R/N. I just got in Droknors and found this harbor with nothing.....

IMO in fractions you can switch ur lvl 20 chars to canta but they start out lvl 1 and when u switch back with the boat ur lvl20 in tyra that would work..

Im excited for Factions actually but thigns in it should of been in the original guild wars.
There was a thread months before GW's release of about 200 people voting for a PvE arena type dealie (not here on guru), where you can fight waves of mobs and bossses that increase in difficulty and what not, and records are kept of the top teams. A feature similar to this will be in factions.
Gives us PvE dorks something else to look forward too, as well as the new PvP fightign styles.
I always thought it was stupid that it's called Guild Wars, yet the PvP is somewhat repetivie and uncreative.

there is also no real "ganking" of any specific players in this game.
If there is ever a pvp fotm group consisting only of ritualists... you just don't join that group.
people will still be coming back to farm greens and such.
wanting too play against only other people that don't have factions is rediculous "hey i just won HoH again! wootzors!" "dude... we didn't even fight anybody" "hush you. yeah!!!"
The one problem i foresee is groups not allowing you into partys if you don't have one of the specific new 25 or so skills for each class equipped, cuz you can't. That would suck.
The assassin will not be superior, in my opinion since the assassin-ritualist-battle isles weekend they will need a huge buff. As a monk, watching them slap at me with their little swords was almost laughable. (it was funny until a necro slapped SS on him, at which point it seemed cruel) but that's probably just because few people know how to play Assassin all that well yet.
if you do not trust in the balancing capabilities of Anet then there is no nope for this game anyway.
I dunno, i can't imagine not wanting to get more out of this game

As long as they nerf Temple Strike, there will be no problems with balance. But either way, I've played through the game too many times and I'm quite ready for some new content.
People seem to say the same thing about PvE these days. Granted PvP can be quite repetitive, but for PvPers, at least this PvPer, it's all about waiting for that awesome match to come around, where the other team and you are ripping down eachother at an equal pace and you can't tell who is going to win until the very end. When those beautiful games come around it always more than makes up for the repetitive matches we've been playing all week. But I'm also glad there will be some dynamic content in PvE in Factions because I love both aspects of the game.

Though...I feel there will be enough GW players buying Factions that it really shouldn't be a problem, but we'll see.

I think pricing is the biggest problem.
why would a GW player pay $49 for an 1/3 of character choice, maybe half much of contents and much less creativity game comparing with GW.
There should be a standard alone client for $49.99 and a upgradeable client for $29.99

If a GW player doesn't think it's worth the price: guess what? They can continue to play the original GW for FREE.
I can't think of a better deal than that.
But Anet isn't making money through subscribers, thus the $50 price tag.
My guess is though the price of Factions will go down eventually... maybe when Chapter 3 is released?

Someone in another threed may a very good point.
Say you have a C1 only Monk and another has a C2 only Monk. There play style is going to be very different even if they get other game latter.
Each will get the same number of spells over all if they go through there game but they will be different play styles due to C2 not getting all of the C1 skills and the reverse but become good monks based on there skill that they have.
How many fire ele do you have since Pve teaches you fire ele from the start then gives you options to play different latter still stay fire because it's what they know.
It's the people that have both will have the max combo's. This is exactly like magic the gathering (which the developer's equate Gw too).
I can see C1 Monk build styles, C2 Monk build styles, and C1 & C2 Monk style builds and all co exist.
Chapter 3 started development in Nov. As more chapters come the you have to have X build is going to give way to you have to have X type of build or hopefully, give a build that will do this objective.

The Hand Of Death
I played assasin and ritualist in random arenas. Now I can tell you that the assasin may seem powerful but against a decent necromancer they don't preform well. Spiteful Spirit hurts assasins greatly, every attack which may mean three -37 dmg showing up per skill you use. They also are hurt my empathy or any attack speed reducers. Now the ritualist is mostly a camping character, I think Anet may have added this character to give AoE dmg an importance in GvG. The use of a firestorm coupled with a meteor shower against a ritualists defended area could be disaterous to the spirits that the ritualist set up, and they cant just spam them the spirits take awhile to recharge.

A few new maps and a couple of new sets fo armor for existing professions dont make me think its fair to pay for these professions again.

It's more than a "few maps and armor", BTW. New skills, new items, new quests, new rewards, more PvE and PvP content...
I mean, what do you expect from an Expansion?

Don't forget the bit where you get 'encouraged' to participate in pvp type scenarios and the bit where you are forced to choose sides to continue the game....
I would be totally ecstatic to be proved wrong if the option were in the game to take a 'neutral' path.

Oh, what the Hell, this thread is totally derailed anyway:
Mordakai's General Concerns About Factions
1. Will I have to join a particular Faction to access particular missions, weapons, or armor?
2. Will I be locked out of Elite areas because I'm in a small, unranked Guild?
3. Should I even bother making an Assassin or Ritualist since I have no idea if they'll be supported after Factions?

I stated what I expect from an Expansion in my first post on this issue already : pricing go $29.99 or $39.99, like every other game expansion does.
A-net, you can not rely on playing free-to-play card again, you played it already 1 year ago. don't think only playing this card again will get you another 1 million purchases, you gotta do something extra attempting
