I am in Kentucky, and I went about two weeks after the release date beacuse there was no store in my local town that carried it, so i had to go to a larger city for it, I first went to EB games and they were sold out, said they wouldn't get more, then they called there other store which was another 30-45 minutes away and they had 2 left, no other stores in that city had it either.
But I'm happy cause I got it

Diablo???
Went to EB Games this time, and pre-ordered my Collectors Edition. Looks like they were better than Best Buy this time around.
BTW, the DVD is beautiful, awesome music, wonderful trailers... ^^

They even had Friggen GW preorder.
They had actually known when the full version would arrive. but then, the hastings in my area is very knowledgable.

On Feb 28th, I pre-ordered two copies of Factions from EB games. They called me to let me know when the boxes came in on Mar 12th and I picked them on Mar 15th.
EB games claims they will price match competitor printed adds and entered a sale price of $39.99 for when the game finally does arrive based on Best Buy online adds but that remains to be seen.
EB games will credit my pre-order toward either a standard or collectors edition of Factions.
I currently have 5 copies of Prophecies in my home (5 players) and will probably end up with 5 copies of Factions as soon as my kids finish Prophecies.

Gamestop seemed a little slow; they called me Monday or Tuesday to let me know my preorder package was in. However, I had a couple "would you like fries with that?" replies from them when I called over the weekend. Some employees know more than others, so if you get an "uhhhh" reaction, try asking someone else. They're usually not on shelves, so do ask.
When I stopped in on Wednesday night to pick up my preorder, they also were taking orders for CE.
This was at a Gamestop in Bellevue, WA; the location likely helps. Down the street from the bulk of Microsoft, lots of geeks, home of ArenaNet, ect.

Tampa, Florida Got my pre-order of Prophecies from CompUSA in Oct, 2004, nearly six months before the game went gold. Was in there today, and they didn't even know what Factions was, let alone have the pre-order.

I've tried my local CompUSA (Jantzen Beach in OR) and they are pretty much clueless. I've been stopping by on my way home from work almost every day since it was announced and they have told me an array of different stories. Still don't have it though and have no clue on when they are going to get it. I'll pay my money elsewhere.

The employees in my local Game store(Worthing, Uk) are convinced that Oblivion is coming out on the 31st so I wasn't holding out much hope about GW:Factions.
And I was right, they tried so sell me the SE of Prophecies....

Uk here, and I want to pre order from play.com. They typically are far andaway the cheapest for pc games, but they took it off their site, any news about that?

I picked up 2 copies at GameStop here in Maryland. Manager didn't really know what to put into the computer to pull it up but finally figured it out. The cases were towards the back of the store where most of the dated titles are at and not in the main display case behind the counter where the new titles are at. Manager insisted retail copy will be in on April 29th but I wasn't in the mood to argue about the date.

Just to follow-up re: Best Buy online orders, I called their customer service line & was told I would be receiving the pre-order package, that my order was already being processed & should be shipped soon. *crosses fingers*

To add more to the Best Buy online pre-order...
I've been helping a guy researching his order and he PM'ed me with this message he got from Best Buy customer service:
"This is Debbie with Customer Care, I regret to inform you that we have
not as of yet received the special order key, we expect to receive it
soon feel free to contact us at 1-888-BESTBUY."

Pre-Ordered from Gamestop last night, I'll see what the deal is from them on the Pre-Orders soon, there aren't any stores in my area that have it, the closest place would be St. Augustine FL I think, or Daytona Beach, but as I can't get over to either place, online is the only way to go for me. I'm kind of suprised Wal-Mart isn't doing anything to get Ch 2, but then agian here I never saw Guild Wars Ch 1 until three months or more after the release last year...
Edit: On the Best Buy Pre-Orders, Just a warning that I noticed last year, I think might be the case this year. They aren't counting the Pre-Order kits as well, Pre-Orders as in "We'll hold a copy of the game for you" This happened last year to me and my BF, thankfully we got what we wanted but it was pretty much just show up on release day, scramble to get what you wanted and hope they had it. I wasn't impressed with that, they could at least ask if you plan to buy the game if you get the pre-order kit, input it into the computer, then ask what version you want, but instead, nothing.

To change my addition I just called EbGames and they said they have the pre-order in the plenty, didn't ask for a date they arrived caus they are very snippy.

all the gamestops around me (NY) and in NJ seem to have at least some of the preorder packages and while i was shopping around these past weeks i checked three best buys and none of them had it. I guess its just based on how the store works or sumthing :/ well i got it and i'm happy so yay.

Im so angry, curse my lack of money. I want to pre order it. But I can't. Guess I'll have to fight my cousin for the last copy on the shelf when it comes out.

You did have to ask.. although in my case it was offered to me without me needing to ask *shrugs*.

Bad customer service but that is the retailer's fault. I do have to agree it would be nicer if we could have ordered it online from plaync or something that guarenteed the pre-order key at least would come to you, no ifs ands or buts, and not have to bother with this running around after peon stores. All we wanted was our bonus ingame items. :-)

And lastly, because I'm not sure if I said it before: Some stores count and track their preorders very carefully, and set copies aside and call when the the boxes arrive. Some stores will run out; some will not. I'm particularly thinking of the CE. As a gamer, I don't take chances. I order locally and I get there when the stores open. You may not have to do that; the stores may have copies for weeks. They may have more CEs than are spoken for. But I don't take chances and just wanted to mention my personal shopping compulsio... processes to you, one gamer to another.

I'm living in Oklahoma and I got mine from best buy online, they are totally clueless. So if I don't receive my key in my email today, I'm canceling my order and I'm going to find somewhere else who actually has SOME source of intelligence.
If anyone has any good reccomendations, post them here for me.

When I visited my local (Pottstown, PA) EB to pre-order our three copies of Factions, the pre-order package wasn't yet distributed. The counter guy told me to just stop back with my receipt to pick up my three pre-order packages when they were released.
I stopped back a couple days after the pre-order packages were released, and he had 4 copies left. While he was throwing those in a bag for me, I asked him how the pre-order sales were doing. He said, 'we have at least 40 more pre-orders than we have pre-order packages, so consider yourself lucky.'
I do.

I wasnt sure what to vote for because I already got my copy of the pre-order box. From my understanding (what the clerk told me) The store only got 1 pre-order box for every person that pre-ordered from their store. And that would be me and I would assume that more people have pre-ordered and they will get more for them.. Im not sure though so I didnt vote =\

Just skimmed through the thread, and found little to no Cancon...
What's the word for Canada? I see a couple people have dug it up (on request, I note) but nobody's really had it conveniently placed on a shelf at eye level. I'm in Kingston, Ontario and I've seen nary a sign of pre-orders or the collector's edition on any store shelves, or even online. Future Shop, Best Buy, EB Games, all turned up blank. Amazon.ca had nothing, ni did the other online shippers I checked.
Now, to be fair, I haven't haven't actually asked any store clerks yet. That's next weekend's job .
(censored) shame, if you ask me. I mean, it shows up in Australia. Freakin' Australia! Don't get me wrong, I love that country. But, it still puzzles me - what do they have that we don't? Beaches? Kangaroos? Summer? Just to make sure, I was kidding on that last one - you wouldn't believe what many Americans (and probably plenty of other people, too) seem to think it's like up here. I was playing GW in August with someone from Idaho... and they asked me if it was snowing. But back on topic... Australia gets some pre-orders. Canada gets some clueless store clerks and unhelpful customer support. What gives?
