Info about the FPE

Here are some new bits of information about the FPE:
  • You will have a chance to play through 4 high-level missions available during the FPE -- 2 story missions and 2 competitive missions.
  • You will have 15 quest areas to visit.
  • Newly created Factions characters will be Level 20.
  • You will start with 20 skills; add a second 20 by speaking to an NPC to get your secondary profession.
  • In order to make sure balance isn't toppled as a result of the event, Factions roleplaying characters will be blocked from guild halls, Xunlai Agents, Battle Isles, and ship travel. So if you get a nice drop, unfortunately you cannot hand it off to another character. Really, though, that is an important limitation for "the greater good," as I'm sure you can imagine.
  • You get to keep skill and item unlocks earned by both RP and PvP characters.
  • We'll reset Factions RP characters after the event, in order to prepare for the launch of Factions.
  • We'll have more info on the main website as of Noon on Tuesday.
Oh and tasty tidbit about Alliance Battles: 12 players in 3 groups of 4 each.

Hope to see you all at the FPE! The magic hour is 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Friday.

So excited, thanks, Gaile. Just one question, though.... is there anything in place to encourage balanced teams? It's logical to think that nearly everyone will want to try out an assasin or ritualist, and we all know that a party of 8 identical characters (especially with limited skill sets) wouldn't be the most 'balanced'. Since we can't take current characters there (the item balance issue you mentioned), how will we have competent monks and other classes?

I'll simply delete my pvp character for a weekend...

Here's an interesting bit of information, more people will want to make A or Ri because they get preorder items for them.

Any word on the items that non A or Ri characters will start with?

Gaile said "12 players in 3 groups of 4 each" so that means no 12 vs 12?, instead 4 vs 4 vs 4? or 3 groups of 4 vs the other 3 groups of 4? :S

^^ That doesn't seem right. If it's an alliance, that means teaming with an ally, right? So would that be 2 groups of 4 ganging up on one?

Edit: right, so I think (and hope it's 12 vs. 12). I mean, we already got 8v8, which is 16 people. How would 4v4v4 be an improvement - only 12 people.

I thought of this, too; with any luck, some of this might be compensated by people who have never played GW that were brought in by friends and will try out some of the other classes. I don't think there's going to be all that much balance overall, though, at least not during this. I'm really hoping to see people play classes across the board when it's released, though.

While I love assassin everything, I think I'm going to hold off playing one consistantly for that reason. Everyone else will be doing it.

Yeah, I'm a little confused on the alliance thing too. Does that mean that you will only have 4 in your party, and you will also be allied with 8 additional players? Will you be able to ressurect these players or have them on some kind of party list for healing purposes? Will there be doughnuts? So many questions. :\

The encouragement is that, much like during the factions pvp preview event, most of the assassin and ritualist builds will be very new and untested, and will get rolled by the proven builds. It's like you either choose to play the new classes or choose to have a better chance of winning.

Anyways, I'm very interested in seeing how this 12v12 grouped into teams of 4 works out. Seems like it'll either be a full-on 12v12 with certain skills creating imbalances, or three pairs of 4v4, which might turn out a bit dull.

No, no, 12 v 12. That 3 x 4 simply means you have squad options. Now, you can attack as a group of 12, of 8 and 4 on the flank, or 3 x 4, or presumably as 12 individuals going it alone, as you choose.

Correctamundo. You won't be tossed 40 skills when you start. The ones you unlock will be yours, and of course each profession has starter skills. I'm not sure of quantities on those but we will know very soon.

Sorry, no extra slot. I understand completely why you'd like one, and perhaps in the future... But I don't know, really. The options are to use your PvP slot for this weekend, or to invite yourself (as mentioned in this thread) with a "dummy account" just for testing purposes. Sure, your unlocks won't carry over, but on the other hand, it's a great chance to have 4 slots for toodling around with the professions.

Thanks for the good questions. Hope this info helped.

Awesome news!!! I can't wait!!! I think I'm gonna call in sick for work on Friday hehe...

Gaile, will we be seeing the same armor we saw on the PVP event for both the Assassin and Ritualist? Or will the PVE event show more armor options for them? (will it be the same for the other 6 core professions?)

I think I'll let you guys figure that one out. I don't think we'll have everything in that Factions has to offer -- it is a beta event, after all. But, well, you just look at see what you find for the event, and then imagine the possibility of even more in release.

Obviously. But considering none of it is permanent and it's all wiped after the beta weekend is over you can just throw crap away.

Gaile, I know that we'll probably find this out during the event, but could you please address the speculations concerning who has access to "Elite" Missions?

Is it the entire controling Faction, Luxon/Kurzick, or is it simply the Best Alliances, or Only the Alliances that conquered that territory?

The community is very riled by the possibility of high end alliances excluding the rest of the community. A response would be much apprieciated.

Also, I think it's awesome that we get the option of 12 on a single team or squad based tactics. Very keen indeed.

I was just wondering about Alliance Battles (3x4)...are they part of PvP or PvE? Also can teams be from the same guild, or must they be from separate ones that form an Alliance?

That totally blows. I do not have a PvP slot on either account, and already entered my preorder keys on the accounts. The FPE is completely useless for me now.

If you have two accounts, then you have 6 invitations to send out, that should be room enough to send yourself one of those.

Why would I want to waste time and effort on a character that will be useless after the event?
