Im not sure what server (servers?) this site is currently running on, but im a member of other forums, which peak at 5000 plus users at any one time, they have no server problems.

I understand the problem with Dos attacks, but, iirc the search worked more than it does currently, before you 'upgraded' the server.

Also, to those who like posting 'omfg fix surva now want search plz', You pay for hosting which allows unlimited databases, unlimted querys, and alot of bandwidth.... And run it, by adverts... One click of these adverts eventually revenues out to around £0.01.. So do the math, remember this is a free forum. Its doing very well (apart from searching) to keep going, without a 'pay to post' membership.

I wonder how many duplicate posts have been made simply because the search tool is often not working.

I would really really like the "new posts" or today's posts functions to work ALL the time. It's irritating to get "search disabled" crap when I just want to browse through the most current topics.

I think the problem that everyone is trying to get accross, is questions not being answered. I often see someone who has posted a question and they get 1 responce, *Use the search tool, that's what it's for* thread closed.
99% of the time the staff and all members are awesome at posting responces. I have had nothing but great success getting an answer or a search.
Maybe a good suggestion would be to add *search maybe disabled due to high traffic. We appologize for any inconvienience, but just keep tryin and you'll find the answer you are looking for* I think a responce like that will go along way!!
Just an idea

I think improving the servers/bandwidth allowances/etc/etc/etc so that the included vbulletin search functions all the time would go a lot farther.

Oh for god's sake. I was just happily browsing "New Posts" and was going to peruse the 2nd page and got...."search has been disabled". I was so happy to be able to glance through the most current topics, and then ....BAM! Nothing. It's driving me crazy. The "New Posts" function of vBulletin's search is one of the most useful features of this format. And we can't use it.

Its not only happening on this forum. Also GuildWiki is down more and more. Leaving players looking for info necessary for that particular moment (finding a collector, unique prices, info about a mission, and so on) empty handed. We all understand this is a FREE service. But also: accessing the growing database of knowledge becomes more and more important. Maybe its a better idea to donate to Guru or Wiky thatn to 1 years old GW on Arananet

I use the search feature offten to do research on an item or something I'm looking for. The search is always encouraged for questions answered mulitple times and is good all around for GWguru.

From recent experience the search is disabled about 80% of the day. Google's search is not appropriate. It does not put the results in any kind of order by date. It will find ANY and EVERY post containing your search on the 1st page.

When can we expect to see this changed?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but anyway, I am trying to sell an item on the high end board, and when I do a search for different key words on that thread via the search forum function, my thread doesn't show up in the search results for some reason. I try it with case sensitive and non-case sensitive searches but neither works. Do I have to do something special for my thread to show up in the forum's search engine?

thread having issues:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s....php?t=3014853

I tried with keywords summit, ebon, fortitude, and none of those brings up this thread when I use the search this forum link in high end (though I get other hits in that forum). It does show up in results however, when I search by user name.

And, just as a test, I searched the High end forum for keyword Sword, and got only 2 hits...

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

I see the Google search screen pop up on other things besides the forum search engine page. I just refresh it a few times and it goes back to the original search result.
That page is probably enabled when the forum server is overloaded and cannot handle your request at the time.

Yah, it's in a pain. The google search is very poor, and I don't bother if the standard search is disabled.

Exactly. If it's an issue of funding, where do I contribute? I know I've posted several times in this thread, but the problem really makes Guru nearly useless to me. And I'm a firm believer in being the vocal minority if I need to be.

I don't browse forums by clicking into sub-forums. I utilize the "New Posts" or "Active Posts" function of the forum's search on all the forums of which I am a member. It lets me browse the most current up-to-date topics with out wading through a lot of clutter.

I find that the search isn't quite accurate either, and it's maddening when trying to navigate the buy or sell forums. Search for something like 'dead bow', and you'll get 2 results in the Sell or High End forums since April 1st. I ASSURE you that more than 2 Dead Bow threads exist. I'm not quite sure how to make my searches more accurate.

For those times that you can't find something on sell, try the auction site We'd always love to see more users try it out.

Likewise... everyone should know by now that we (kzap and Inde specifically here) do our best to please you.... we're not trying to get you mad, we're not vindictively sitting here chortling at your malcontent. We are very well aware of the issue and are always trying to find viable alternatives so that your viewing experience can be better.

Please keep this in mind. We haven't forgotten it and will not until it's adequately resolved.

One of the big issues we are running into I think is that since the server upgrade we seem to have 2 - 3 times as many users online than we did before. Even so, the site has pretty much never been down since then (except pretty much for the rollback day), while I was constantly getting server errors during peak times before. So the trade off for the search acting up is that the site stays up more, even with a much larger number of users online.

And Maya, are you raging here on the forums? j/k

I used to run ad blockers I'll admit it. Because the banners (ipod especially) were eating up most of my resources just by have 1 page open on guru. It made everything on my entire comp run slower. I have a good comp with 1 gig of ram 2 gig cpu and 256mb graphics card running at 550mgz.

I know advertisements pay for the site and also make you money but you should choose the banners wisely. I've seen some banners even try to use my Directx 9 or higher engines. That is obsurd and something that guru should be take into consideration when you put the banner here. Not everyone is going to appreciate that resource hog banner you have on your page.

I have turned my ad blockers off since the banners have been changed.

I like this site. I really do. However, when I want to find something, or get ridiculed by other members for posting something that was posted 1-2-3 minutes/hours/days ago, the search is down.. Always.

I propose a donation page through this site for more bandwidth and other site needs, through PayPal preferrably. Not only with this stop the "LOL NOOB USE THE SEARCH" crap, it will also help people find what they're looking for and clear up the forum (atleast somewhat).

I'd really like the Admin and Mod's feedback on this.

I, for one, would donate.

At least you didn't make a new thread about it... how about looking at the feedback on the other 500 threads exactly like this?
