Mounts!!
Lord Alawane
Gah I want a mount damnit! With sweet animations that let me attack on it with a small % reduction in damage.
Different mounts for different classes. Like a panther for ranger... a horse for a warrior... a small young boy for the mon... i mean whatever.
It would be cool! >.<

Or go hang yourself with your keyboard cord. This was already discussed, and the general population already said no. We don't need them, we can teleport instantly.
And a Ranger could not ride a panther. The size doesn't make sense.

there's nothing wrong with mounts..........it would just add another exciting aspect to the game..........since the developers are so concerned regarding the balance of the game.......mounts should be given no special attributes or just create an area of the game where EVERYONE has to have mounts.

Most people seem to want mounts in the game, they all expect to see mounts in a future release and are to lazy to post here. Then the people that dont want mounts come here to make sure they down get mounts.
Every mission i go on with people, I asked them if they would want mounts to be added, 1 out of 10 of them said yes.
Teleporting is very useful but it takes about 1 hour just to do a mission, mounts would be faster because I don't like going to a area and then realizing I was supposed to go to another spot, and i have to go all the way back and around, 15 min wasted of my time.
I remember doing a quest in ascalon that required me to walk very far north to meet some dude and then walk all the way back because he has to follow you. Then when i get back they ask me to get another guy that was hiding further off that spot.So I had to walk all the way, back and then get him to follow me to ascalon.
2 hours just for a 500 exp quest!
Teleporting only gets u between old towns, it takes a long time to get to new ones at higher levels.

I agree fully! why would somebody say "no" to mounts? You don't use them in PvP but that doesn't mean that having them in PvE will take anything out of PvE. I think it's a fantastic idea that will add to the realism and fun of the game world.
relientK_fan
Yes! Give us mounts for fast travel through areas! I hate walking through North kryta Province! It's freaking huge! With a mount, it would make farming easier, as well as quests quicker.
DrSLUGFly
I want it partially for fast travel... but man, when you're fighting a mounted enemy... it just looks so damn cool! I"m still puzzled how people could say "no" to mounts though... I mean, wtf, don't ride em if you don't like em. Nobody makes you get in a car now.

if mounts got me some kind attack bonus, or let me use less energy on spells, I would welcome it with open armor (har har har).

Mount's are not a good idea for GuildWars. The environment is too restrictive. If you want faster travel, I suggest you start complaining about the number of useless low level mobs in the game which cause constant delays.
Rushing Wind
Mounts? Why? All they'll be is a nuisance and it really isn't going to help anything. Balance is what devs wanted and no amount of petitioning is going to bring them in. Instancing is there for a reason and the game is great just the way its played.
Thats because GW doesn't have the same races as every other MMO that can't compete. If you want mounts, cars or whatever else please petition to make little gnomes too so they can come up with super ridiculous ideas in their races to make things so much better for GW. C'mon... the game you wanna be playing came out last November. Go ride your mounts all you want.

okay... new question. How could the presence of non-combative mounts damage the gaming experience? Why is it that there are always people who fear something different being put in if it doesn't add to the numbers? Why aren't these people playing table-top DnD where graphics and sounds don't get in the way and interfere with the number-crunching experience?
Ironsword
I would appreciate a mount myself the stone summit have them and a few others i can't think of right now it's not such a stretch and if they don't change the combat in any way why not have them the only thing it would change is the graphics

That's what I mean... okay, it changes the speed and that would be necessary since a mount that can only go as fast as a person is retarded. But I want a mount not for the speed (that's a bonus) nor for the attack advantage (again just a bonus). No, I want one because this is a fantasy game and what fantasy situation have you ever heard of... or even what life situation have you ever heard of, where people don't ride in or on things? I just want it because it would add coolness to the game.
Apologies on my rudeness in my previous post... but this idea just seems so common sense that I was surprised when I first learned it wasn't already in.

i think mounts would be a very good idea, as long as they didn't offer any other purpose than to just look cool, yeah i'm sure it would be nice to be able to move a little faster, but really the best thing about them is that it looks really cool to have it. It's all about spending money and since money is pretty easy to come by in this game i don't see why we can't have more stuff to spend it on. I mean come on this game is set during medeveal times, it just makes sense to have people riding horses (and i think that right now the only mount should be a horse since that's the only thing that makes sense with humans).

Mounts will probobly cost lots of gold if they're ever implanted, depending on their stats.Mounts = More money to spend!
I think more people would be glad to have mounts in the game than not have any at all.

in case any of you brains havent figured it out yet the only people who would see your mount is someone in your party as animals (rangers pets ) arent allowed in common areas
or were you going to suggest having them in towns and outposts to show off as well?
if so consider that you would double the server load for the extra bodies if everyone had one
Magus
I'm for mounts, but probably not on the current characters due to balance issues, namely with PvP. I'm also against giving every single profession a mount (this is GW not WoW). Body size and speed are stats. Changing them unbalances the game, especially for PvP.
I think mounts could be implemented in conjunction with new profession(s). I'm thinking something along the lines of a "knight" which will basically be like a warrior or ranger stat-wise, but have higher offensive capabilities, and worse defensive capabilities.
Normally while mounted, the "knight" would suffer from a moderate attack speed and/or attack power penalty. His primary attribute would decrease that penalty. There could also be different types of mounts for this profession, such as a horse that moves faster than other mounts, or a drake that allows you to attack slightly faster, etc.

You can't teleport to new areas!!!!!
It takes an extremly long time to fight every enemy that comes near you.The desert area near primeval kings is so hard and time consuming because almost every enemy is at least level 20.
Mounts wouldn't be a issue if you could teleport anywhere before you've walked there. But if you did that there would be no point in doing any missions.
So don't just say teleport when the main point of mounts is to get to the spot you want to get to faster.

So, the suggestion here would be for mounts to provide quicker travel between areas? That would mean you would have a constant Sprint ability active, so you can basically run by just about any mob you come across. Yeah, that's a [i]great[/g] idea And if you say that its possible for most mobs to still kill you if you simply try to run by, then why do you want a mount? It would make most quests and missions way too easy.
An attack bonus for riding a mount? That would create an imbalance that would be difficult to overcome. Besides, why should you get a bonus, shouldn't most people get a penalty? Hitting a target on a moving mount isn't supposed to be easier, and neither is concentrating on casting a spell.
The game was simply not designed to support mounts, especially not if players are given a speed bonus for using them. It would be like asking for the ability to play baseball in a football game (well, not quite, but you get the idea). You aren't meant to speed through areas without fighting. If the devs wanted that, they would make it so you could sneak through mobs.
For those that just want the looks, do you realize how increadibly hard it would be to put in a system like this purely for the looks? I'd rather the devs focus on more important features.

More important features?Like what?
Im sure once a mount topic dies another new person comes and decides to make one.It will always happen and it will be unavoidable (Unless they add in mounts).
It wouln't imbalance the game too much if your defense, accuracy, and damage was reduced by 10%.A mount could also be a damage taker like my wolf
Speeding through mobs isn't always the case though.I tryed running away from a mounted enemy and it was impossible to escape because he was so much faster.
Im sure im not the only one that has gotten mixed up looking for a bonus or went the wrong way.So then i have to run all the way back and go to where im supposed to go.
BTW I've actually played baseball on a football field at my school.

mounts , although ideal for rushing through the game , would be that - rushing through the game.
No mounts , please
No mounts , please

Its really hard to see mounts in this game. There are no areas that you "travel" through. There are only areas that you're meant to fight your way through. As such, mounts would make that moot.
I like mounts, I think they look great but the game isn't designed for them. Now, if in an expansion, there are vast zones with only small pockets of beasties, then maybe...but not now.

Then how about after beating a certain amount of missions or quests you can get a mount.
That way you don't have to rush.

*sigh* Unless the environmet becomes less restrictive, mounts will be a nuisance. Can you imagine galloping to your quest marker on a fast steed, only to stop every 30 seconds because you've hit an invisible wall?
Deadroot
Don't get me wrong, I love mounts/vehicles from other games. But those games needed them due to the wide open terrain where you had to travel over by foot to get anywhere instead of getting to teleport between areas you've been like you can in GW. Guild Wars is much more linear in where you can go than those games, so even having a mount would be fairly restrictive.
Perhaps if they made you travel everywhere by foot instead of allowing you to teleport to places you've been...then mounts would be needed. But even then, it would require them to completely rethink how the world map works. You know people would complain that mounts should be able to climb over certain cliffs that you normally can't go over. So they would need a more open world where you can walk anywhere like other MMOGs...but they would also have to adjust all mobs so you can't just run by everything to get to your goal without effort.
Mounts would have been nice if the game was made more for them, but Guild Wars just doesn't have room for them. Lets ask for more guild options, solutions to the grind so everyone is happy, more character slots, more choices in the appearance of your char, more armor looks, fixes for bugs, more PvP/GvG options, more challenges for quests...anything that would fit into this game without having to completely redesign it.
Meant it like someone complaining that they can't play baseball in a football video game

also to balance the game.........make an area where everyone uses mounts including the monsters.........^_^
PS I Know this idea sounds crazy
Axehilt
I'd rather see better things than mounts implemented.
We already have "travel powers" as it is - and they're nicely balanced to be part of the integral gameplay of both PVE and PVP. Stuff like Sprint/Illusion of Haste/Etc. They're all run speed buffs which carry innate disadvantages (costing energy, limited duration, leaving you crippled, etc) so you can't spend the whole battle at turbo speed.
I'd rather they just focus on making the expansion pack have a more cohesive story with better voice acting and scripting. I think that scripted instance missions are the future of MMORPGs and really want to see them develop the concept further - so it really feels like an immersive, interactive world you're taking part in. Hopefully they get creative and let you take part in various parts of Tyria's history and interact with the gods a bit more - perhaps even travelling to other worlds entirely which have very different geographical feel.

Not all characters are able to have speed buffs.
Devil's Dictionary
You have a primary and a secondary class. There's a slim chance that neiter of those will have a speed buff. If you don't, then you must be a support character, hence a speed buff will be unecessary (unless you are one of those idiot monks who suddenly decide to train the entire map-worth of monsters to your location).
Don't you understand that the game's architecture isn't for mounts? Do you think you can drag a horse in a dungeon?

I just thought I would mention, speaking for the general population is ignorant, a post is formed and the general population will note herein without your generalization. Furthermore, what players may have thought in the past may have changed by then, new players may have different opinions, and since this is a brand new game many players will change views as they continue the story line.
I personally think that mounts would be a great idea, in restricted areas. I think having a "mount" without any legitimate use would be flat out stupid, players are going to act and fight differently on mounts. So, the natural conclusion is that mounts are going to go faster then you normally do, even if there is not battle techniques used wile on a mount. Which is why it would alter the difficulty of gaining certain quests and missions in established parts of the game, so, I think if they did add mounts they should be for new parts of the game which are developed with mounted play in mind.
I think having mounts that can enhance battle and gain lvls and skills of a small variety would be great, expecially for an expansion. This is because Anet intends to keep the lvl cap at 20, even though many players have already requested increased lvls at some point or another. So giving us an expansion that is limited to new areas, new gear, and new skills, without an increased lvl cap, might not be very involving. As new classes come out players will surge to start over with new combinations, but for many, having an expansion without any significant ways to increase thier favorite characters power may not be very satisfying. If they had mounts that could gain lvls and a small selection of battle skills depending on your job or the "mount class" there would be room for players to take on a totaly new realm of PvE and PvP, with a new addition to lvl up and enjoy.
I think mounts should be realistic riding material, tamed or bought. I think there should be a standard mount type (horses) and then advanced or secret mounts, like Unicorns, Bears, Lizards, perhaps even a Dragon of some sort.
I imagine it as having a mount with it's own health, which would share damage depending on attacks, and a totaly seperate skill selection which would override your normal selected skills wile on the mount. This way you can learn, or simply use, certain skills wile on a mount, and depending on your character class certain other skills would be available wile on a mount.
I think "mounts" have alot of potential for an expansion, and could add a totaly new dimention of play to an already great game. I think the real issue to avoid though is having mounts in current areas, which arn't designed for mounted play.

Okay... how about this... some people mentioned that they'd be interested to see housing added to the game (they may have been taking the piss, but it's a cool idea). What if, all characters were allowed to purchase pets (the ranger would still be the only one with the freedom to charm and tame any wild animal). These pets could be weak and non-combative, running away when there's trouble and returning after. perhaps they could offer small bonuses like a morale bonus or something... and maybe some of them, the expensive ones, would be big enough that you could crawl onto their backs and ride them. Or maybe not...
You know... for those who want mounts... the forum isn't really the place to debate it... and we are riding dead horses here, I'm quite sure that Anet already knows about the partial desire for horses and MUST have already considered the pros and cons of including them.
