Skills - Hundred Blades

Cyclone axe is great, but you have to be careful with it because you can perform the move without a target. Hundred Blades will only strike at a target.

god, in gvg and hoh iv hit 5 foes many times with this thats 10 adrenaline, and the average hit to out of the 10 attcks was 23 each.

cyclone axe may hit for +10 dmg at 12 axe or higher (i think.), but HB hits for double the damage on one target. potentially, considering the axe's unreliable (IMO) damage output, you can deal more damage using cyclone axe than you can with HB.
i prefer more stable and reliable sources of damage, so i switched back to the good old sword after i played around with the axe a bit. during a GvG i hit an enemy monk with HB for 54 damage each hit. if i used CA, it probably wouldn't have translated into 108 damage on one target.
HB can be as effective as cyclone axe in large mobs, too. consider griffon farming...a farmer could use cyclone axe against 3 griffons with a max damage axe without a damage modifier. that equals about 24-30 damage, in my experience. using HB, you'd probably strike for 12-16, per hit. that's about 24-32 damage per target, when added up.
HB is basically more versatile, while CA is more screnario specific. i guess that's why it's an elite. it'd be nice if there was a small damage modifier, though. +7 at 12? who knows.
and.....Anet should, in my opinion, make hundred blades available earlier in the game. getting it on the very last mission kind of killed my enthusiasm about getting this skill...

So... when you use this, it swings twice? Is this correct? And not only at the targeted enemy, but at the enemies adjacent to him? I'm not really clear on the description. =\

In reality, it swings once at the target, the same way Dual Shot only fires once, but hits that target and adjacent enemies around it twice.
A targeted adjacent AoE touch-ranged attack skill which counts for 2 melee atttacks against each foe.

I think the point to this skill is to build up adrenaline not do damage.................but it does some damage.
Shadowdaemon
they do need to put it somewhere earlier in the game for real, try capping it with a warrior/necro, you aren't exactly wanted in most groups, and the ones that take you usually dont come close to getting to rurik
Therran Cloudhart
is this skill good for PvP and GvG? and does it work for PvE?

well, its ok for pvp but since its an elite, i find that in most of my builds, i have 2-3 choices of elites better than this one, so i never take it out basically.

Think about it in terms of farming...say Griffons. Hundred Blades will double your healing from the Vamp upgrade over Cyclone Axe.

LOL as inclined as I am to make the comparison between a swordsman with hundred blades and and axe-wielder with cyclone, such cannot be made...they are two different weapon types with skills designed for different Styles.

So bottom line cyclone axe is good for hitting adjacent foes plus dmg. And Hundred Blades is good for some dmg and building adrenalin. but it works great with other sword skills so u cyclone axe ppl come here to talk about Hundred Blades not Cyclone Axe. thank u (SWORDS RULE!)

That is only one opinion. It can be very effective with the right skills alongside of it. I am picturing this with two other skills which I would like to try sometime.

As damage dealing attacks go I find 100 blades is terrible. I tested it in sorrow's furname with a max damage wingblade, req 10. I had 12 swordsmanship.
Seeking blade did more damage to the individual target (26-30 usually) while 100 blades was hitting for 10-12 at best (edit for clarification; that is to say, each hit with 100 blades was doing around 10-12, so 20-26 in total), against stone summit choppers (or whatever the axe weilding ninnies are called)
Sure, 100 blades gets adrenaline up good and fast, but barring final thrust there isn't much on offer for adrenaline skills sword wise. Besides. Battle Rage is THE way to go if you wanna RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO the adrenaline.

This skill's true power is in its ability to combo in fact it made a too powerful combo so it was made an elite (IW+100 blades) on its own its weak combined with a larger number damage adders it can be very powerful combared to other skills in the same situation.

You get it from a boss in Fort ranik..... lol
kinda funny so its not hard to get super easy but i dont remember where he was or where but its a boss in Fort ranik mission i think

I also got this elite by a cheap way, but you can't do this anymore... hehe

100 Blades is not a damage dealing skill unto itself, stop expecting it to be. 100 Blades is not supposed to be the sword opposite of Eviscerate, so stop comparing the two. 100 Blades is a combo skill used to enhance sword combos, which it does AWESOMELY. If you haven't figured that out, you haven't experimented enough with it. If you want a comparison, 100 Blades is more like the sword version of Battle Rage (a stance best suited for axes). It's purpose is to charge adren, but also do dmg, and ALSO allow you to use an actual stance that can increase your attack rate. Unlike Battle Rage. 100 Blades enhances someone using Galrath Slash, Final Slash, Sever Artery, and Gash. With a high STR score in conjunction with a high Swords skill, 100 Blades also becomes a Galrath Slash that gives you double the adren that is energy based instead of adren based. 100 Blades likes to land one of its two attacks on stance using targets, amazingly. 100 Blades is better then Cyclone Axe in arena and CAN BE better then Cyclone axe in PvE farming if you cluster without being swarmed. If you farm with swarming technique, Cyclone axe is better. 100 Blades hits your target twice, and any adjacent enemies to your target twice as well. Yes I run a devistating spike combo in PvP that uses 100 Blades to brutal effect. Don't knock if if you don't know how to use it. It's worth the elite status.

Best elite in the game. This skill rocks.
Massive damage, massive adrenaline, massive speed, recharges quicky, can be combined with stances, works well with life stealing.
The list can go on for all eternity. Get it.

Its a massive elite im gonna get it as soon as i can, but i wish there was at least a second sword elite they kinda picked on sword moves :'(
Marksmann
I suppose the Prima Guide is incorrect then, or just out-dated, when it lists 5 separate bosses as having the hundred blades skill that can be captured. Too bad...leaving an elite skill until almost the end of the game reduces it's utility in the game.

100 blades is an amazing PvE skill that I would really suggest checking out for use there. You can easily deal large amounts of cost-efficient damage, receiving huge spikes of health (vamp mod) or energy (zealous mod) in addition to turbo charging your adrenaline.
In PvP, the multi-hitting aspect rarely comes into play, however, so that aspect is moot to argue.
What redeeming qualities, if any, does Hundred Blades have in PvP, then?
Looking at it from the overall battle perspective, Hundred Blades is hardly amazing. Assuming you're running an attack speed buff, you're looking at getting about 10 swings every 8 seconds, instead of just 9. About a 12% increase in adrenaline and damage, or so. This is largely unimpressive.
However, let's consider for a moment one of the largest differences between PvE and PvP; Spike vs Pressure damage. In PvE, you get a lot of pressure damage out of it (large AoE damage every 8 seconds). In PvP, however, you get a 2-at-once hit. Is this enough to constitute a spike?
On a 60 AL target with max swordsmanship, I usually strike for about 80-100 (a lot when both crit on a moving foe) base damage per Hundred Blades use; Comparable to Final Thrust. Except it takes energy instead of adrenaline.
Being a double strike, it takes advantage of buff effects twice, as well, making it that much deadlier. [+8 from Winnowing, +6 from Vamp mod, +12-22 from Strength of Honour depending on smiting level, +32 from Orders, and so on]
If a person uses Hundred Blades in PvP, it's most likely to have a more versatile Final Thrust spike effect; You can use it at any time that you have the energy, and it has a relatively short recharge, so you can mix it in fairly often, to both up your overall DPS, and to enhance your spikes.
Perhaps most notably, you can chain Galrath Slash->Hundred Blades->Final Thrust.
And if you ever do manage to hit more than 1 target, that makes it that much sweeter.
Of course, whether or not that's worth it to you is wholly up to you.
I rarely run Hundred Blades because I don't much like it. But it does have a few things going for it that make it interesting.

HB is a great PvP skill as people have been saying because it acts as an enchant spike: I love the Conjure + Hundred Blades, and it works great for Pve in alot of solo builds. Just to reiterate what everyone has been saying, building adrenaline that fast is quite beneficial to any warrior.
rii
It works good on enchant/stack skills, like conjure. In Pvp, sword warriors only really come in one flavour tbh, and thats Charge! warriors... sever/gash/final/galrath/tf/charge/res/healsig... or similar. Charge is too good for Hb to get a look in tbh. However, if for some perverted reason your arent running charge (e.g. solo sword -.-) then hB is probably the best bet... while its a sucky elite the combo with galrath/final... allows a big 'starter' damage, which is what the sword line lacks tbh (since combo with final would probably make it rather great) If it caused a deep wound it would be great.
And ra, ta... charge dont work so good so hB is workable there too.

Hundred Blades makes good Fear me spammers. Make sure you have zelous sword though.
You also get the strength bonus kick in for both hits, it does some nice damage too.

It's been proven over and over again that axes do more dmg
Up till 10 weapon mastry, swords do more dmg, with 11 weapon mastry or higher axes do more dmg due to the higher critical hit percentage
Can someone give me a serious build (PvP) with less than 11 in sword/axe mastry? No? I thought so!
HOWEVER
With factions came Dragon Slash. if you're talking about adrenaline builders, DS is the way to go. (essentially it reduces all adrenaline costs by 5) It gives you a 5 adrenaline Dragon Slash and a 3 adrenaline Galrath slash and a 3 adrenaline silverwing slash. That is 3 times +42 dmg for 5, 3 and 3 adrenaline.
I have not tested it yet, but I am pretty sure this outdamages any avaidable axe attack chain
*cough*back on topic*cough*
can anyone give me a clue as to why I would use this elite over Dragon Slash in PvP? the chances of hitting more than one foe are small in PvP, to say the least. Hitting 3 foes will only occur VERY occasionally.

Seraphim of Chaos
I'm interested in how Hundred Blades combos with Signet of Strength...For instance, if I hit 4 people twice with sig of strength on, does it use 1, 4, or 8 charges of the sig?
Arcador
Should be tested. For sure HB stacks with strenght of honour and elemental conjuration, so I guess it will probably stack with this too.
Seraphim of Chaos
Problem is...I don't have Hundred Blades. =(
