My first 100 hours of game play was amazing.. Was among some of the first to Ascend, and among some of the first to finish the Story. Now it's kinda like WTF? PVP seems to be owned by the hardcore players of it, the same names are seen trhoughout the day of winning HoH. And besides, i truly (my opinion) don't find the PVP in GW that much fun. Just wandering if anyone else has my same feelings. Looks like it might be my last week or two for real play time, and I'll be going back to SWG (sigh :/)

Do you feel you got your $50 worth? If so I'm sure A-Net will E-mail ya when they add now zones and stuff and you can come back long enough to do that. Then if you enjoyed that 100 or so hours enough, I'm sure they would be thrilled if you came back in a few months and tried their first expansion.

Lol, i got a little bored... then i just made a new character, and found it Fun how fast i traveled through absolutely Everything...
Not to mention i was one of the first to ascend as well, i pre-ordered, played like hell, power-gamed it to the end... then i couldnt ascend with the henchies : (
Were you able to find groups for the ascending? Cause i had to wait a while, and just make a pvp character... my skill i wanted for my pvp ranger was in the Last lvl, and so... through alot of the mursaat lvls i had to stop as well, cause i just couldnt get past them with the henchies.
Oh yea, and for my first character i didnt quest at all... i actually did alot of the quests with my brand new elementalist... and i found alot of the quests to make it feel kind of like a different game, it was FUN (one that sticks in my head is near ascalon settlement where you have to chase the pig back to the farmer)... but if you've already done all the quests and dont like the pvp, i don't know what to tell yea ^.^

The replay value is good on this game, at least for me. Just recently on Pre-Searing they had changed the mission where you have to go and save that doofus "Ben Wolfson". Did you know they put a really beautiful cemetary map there? I love this game in that they put things on the map for the sole purpose of -looking- at it. It serves no other function than to be explorable and gorgeous. Not many games I've played appealed to my need for exploration as this game has.

I'd say that accomplishing that is impossible considering that by the time you'd managed to get to that point without dying, you yourself would be dead of old age.

I'd say completing ascension without whiners would be a game wide accomplsihment and hope for the human race.

Man, I have 30 hours of gameplay. I think you may be going to quickly, I prefer the slow way of like an hour a day...
Anyways, I think the reason you aren't finding Tombs a joy is because you aren't winning. To really full appreciate Guild Wars, you need a great guild.
Decide what you like and find a guild that does just that.

I can not say that I am getting bored at all...
However, I can not say that I have played ANY MMORPG since Everquest 1 that held my attention for more than 3 months... And I have played ALOT of MMORPG's Prolly more than I can remember. Everquest, Dark Ages, Earth and Beyond, FFXI, SWG, the list goes on and on and on. I try em all.
So only time will tell.
But here is my 2 cents.
With no $$ cost per month. And no expiration of accounts that I am aware of. This is a game that you will prolly be playing again, on a rainy day, six months from now.
It's like the new Diablo 2. =)
Just better. And less scammers and bots.
There is no "little blue jewel button" that does nothing though. =/

But I wouldn't call GW the new D2. I know what you mean about the lack of a monthly fee, but I hate associating the two

I always find myself playing D2 every now and then. But from here on out, I think GW will be taking D2's place.
That was the comparison I was trying to make. The games themselves are TOTALLY different...

100 hours of amazing gameplay for US$ 50, that is 50 cent per hour. Pretty good deal.
I don't think Guild Wars was ever intended to be one of those game that takes over your life for years. Those tend to come with a monthly fee. Guild Wars is just ment to be something fun to relax with for people who already have a life.

I digress...
I remember way back in 'Nam... When everybody was playing Quake 2... I was playing Everquest 1. I played that game exclusively for 5 years almost non-stop. I felt as if my Cleric "Witt Tristan" was a living breathing person. I don't know how to explain it, but no other game has ever been able to duplicate it since.
I think the trick is getting the player to "Invest" immotion and effort into his player. But you can't make the game, a grind...
For example... Everquest 2... Lol. Graphics are "Bar None!" The best I have ever seen on anything. Period. End of Story... But the game is a total grind. It's so bad, that it seems like the game was deliberatly made that way to get you to play for as many months as possible. Pay to play... Month's = $$
Guild Wars costs nothing once you have a licence for the client. This eliminates the "Incentive" for the creators of the game to put in time sinks.
This is a good thing. On the other hand, if I'm lvl 20 in 3 weeks... I have not invested much into the character have I?

I'm getting somewhat bored, and my motivation to grind runes is about 0.
I've been through the PvE twice, I don't feel like doing it again (I didn't even feel like doing it twice).
Tomb is getting somewhat repetitive. I want to play more GvG, but that requires the guiid getting together, and most of them are on GvGing when I'm sleeping.
Maybe I'll help out other people with late game missions, thus getting my grind done without doing numbingly boring loot runs.

Maybe you have to accept the fact that the game isn't that great of a success for hardcore gamers who play more then the casual newbies still stuck anywhere from ascalon to mirror. The game is a let down for some people, but I don't think it was a waste of money. You can easily quit, and come back a few months or even years from now provided the servers are still up. Isn't that one of the selling points in the first place?
Spike
I have one assended character with about 120 hours and a 2nd character at the frost gate with about 30 hours and still have loads of fun. If you find a GOOD group of people to play with you can loads of fun.
OutcastHawk
Maybe if people would take the game slower, appreciate the game, not just try to reach the end as fast as possible, you'd have more fun.
And let's be honest for a minute. You said you got 100 hours of enjoyment out of it. Most games will never give you that much for 50 bucks. 20-30 hours tops to beat a single-player campaign usually. Then if they have a multiplayer function, that until it gets boring, which might be 70 hours if you're lucky.
The name sort of gives this away, but you REALLY need a good guild to get max enjoyment out of Guild Wars. The whole game is designed for guilds, specifically smaller guilds of less than 20 members. You don't need a massive 100 member guild to have it be a good guild. Negative Zero n0, the top guild on the ladder last time I checked, has very few members. You'll find a good guild eventually if you keep searching, and you'll be surprised at how much more fun you'll have.
I play as much as anyone in my guild except maybe one or two, but my top character only just hit 16. I'm not rushing through the game to get to ascension. I can use a PvP character if I want to do play HoH or whatever. Spending time with guildmates is most of the fun.

And on the other note of cheating on diablo-- Maphacking was something everyone had, or really, the gameplay sucked(starting was great)... (this coming from after 3 years of playing the same maps, the random generating kinda got annoying, never knew which way it was ^.^)
What was kind of funny, is i cheated with pickits and dupes for a full year and a half (cause my guild leaked things like this to members), and i ended up getting One account deleted and not because of those... because of maphack... it was hillarious.

Yes, I'm getting a bit bored. The grinding has taken its toll. The missions are just an arcade game, really. In fact, the Guild Wars missions seem to me designed from the point of view of an arcade game developer- create forced choke points and spawn points that you have to die to learn (thus, forcing the player to spend more quarters). Of course, once you learn the missions, it's just a brainless exercise. It's fun the first time around, but I do not feel like doing them over again. Put another way, if you (1) finished the missions once, (2) wanted to develop another character to unlock different skills, and (3) someone offered you to run the missions for you for free, would you take that offer? I know I would. And yet, if I choose not to develop another character, I can't really explore PvP with other classes. (Sure, I could change secondaries, but skill points come hard after level 20).
What surprises me a bit is that I'm getting a bit bored with PvP, which I thought would be the saving grace of GW. Maybe it's because most teams like to run Tombs of the Primeval Kings. I'm not sure if I like the set up in the Hall of Heroes and how it encourages a narrow set of specialized builds designed around simply holding an altar with a bot against 2 other teams. I would prefer the final round of Hall of Heroes to be a 2 way all-out brawl between the top two teams, not a 3 way king of the hill.
On a positive note, the 4 person arenas are getting busier, which is a nice change in PvP action. And of course, no monthly fee which means I can and go as I please (and hope that my PvP partners are still around).
I still feel I definitely got my money's worth, though. 3-4 week of steady entertainment is a good deal for a computer game, IMHO.

I must admit I'm getting bored somewhat too. I'm getting tired of doing the same mission(s) over & over & over & over. Then again I only play pug's so the quantity & quality of teamplayers are lower. I get tired of spending several days at someplace that should only take me a few hours due to the stupidity of others to screw the mission up. I like playing FoW tho. I seem to find a higher caliber of teamplayer there.

I have completed the game with just bots.. why do people feel the need to team with real players to get past a mission? I only team with real players that need help..
complete the mission with bots first.. then when you want the bonus, look for a team that wants to do the bonus, they are much better teams because they have done that quest before..
I've put over 200 hours into the game at the moment.. havnt unlocked all my skills for my character.. and even if I did there are other professions that I want to do the game with again, actually I cant wait to go through with other characters..
Bored?.. after 200 hours I'm just getting stuck in...
The only people who are bored are those that arnt very good at the game.. everyone gets bored with a game they arnt very good at...
frankly I hope bored people would just go play something else, your crap at GW.. do something your good at

You know I was just sitting here contemplating the future of the game (yes I know I have no life, my co-workers remind me all the time), and it dawned to me. This game is still only about a month old, and hopefully soon enough all the bored people will start dropping off and the people that love the game will stay and start building a stronger and stronger community for all of us to enjoy. That what the people that came form FPS’s need to understand, this game will get stronger and stronger because interpersonal relationships and loyalties will form in game and last years, not because they gave out an “I Win” button. Guild will develop rivalries and a year from now no one will be complaining about the grind. This game has a bright future as long as they don’t bow down after the first month of complaining.
To answer the question, no I’m not bored, and I hope I never do get bored.

I would agree that bots are better than humans however playing with them turns a multiplayer game into a single player game. I dont want to play with bots but many of the times I am forced to as many humans just dont seem to work well together.
If the game hasnt got boring for you I am happy for you... really I am, but just because it has for me doesnt mean I am somehow wrong or whatever. It just means that GW(in it's current state at least) is or was not for me.
Then again I am not to happy with any game lately. They all seem to get repetitve & boring after a while. I was hoping GW would break this, cure this, change this for me but it hasnt. The boring problem on my end could very well be all me but that doesn't explain others getting bored with the game tho.
Now Im not dissing GW or ANet in anyway... just stating that GW is no longer as fun for me as it used to be & is in fact becoming more of a chore to play than a pleasure. It just isnt as fun for me anymore.

I agree with you that a lot of games get repetitive and there are some poor games out there.
And you say that most games are boring for you lately. Do you have any activities besides gaming that you take up, or is it all gaming. If so, go get an activity outside of your PC and you may find you come back to gaming with more enthusiasm.
As for GW for me, i haven't played long but i do see a lot of bored people hanging around. Whining and moaning. I hope they go too, as it's not good for new players.
I'm an FPS player and i enjoy those a lot, but i also enjoy MMORPG's and have a lot of fun with them.
Having a guild of good players is what also makes it fun to play too. It's all about Quality not quantity.
Sting
Yeah I play much less now than when game first came out. Partly from boredom but mainly agrivation of being a Ranger LFG and after waiting around 30min or so getting a group then listening for another 5 minutes of someone complaining they got a ranger (god forbid 2 LOL), then going into HoH and B4 we complete the Rifts someone yells "F---ing nOObs" and leaves LOL. So its a mixture of perception/reality rangers suck, boredom, and quiters. Also groups seem to be carbon copies in HoH 3mo, 3or4 W/?? (usually W/Mo) and 1 or 2 casters (usually E/??).
Do I think it was a waste of money NO, do I think they could make it better definately.

There are so many skills in this game to pickup... so many places to explore.. hundreds of different strategies and build types.... I find it hard to beleive that anyone can be be bored simply because there is a lack of things to do!
there is so much to do that only the most anti-social would have got EVERYTHING unlocked and explored by now.. especially only after one month.
so, if its NOT that people are running out of things to do... and I dont think that anyone could be bored of the graphics... the question has to be asked again... WHY are some people bored and some people not?
I dont think this question has been properly answerd yet!
what IS bordom?
boredom
n : the feeling of being bored by something tedious [syn: ennui, tedium]
Synonyms: boring, monotonous, tedious, irksome, tiresome, humdrum
These adjectives refer to what is so uninteresting as to cause mental weariness. Boring implies feelings of listlessness and discontent:
These definitions (http://dictionary.reference.com/) makes me think that people arnt getting what I call a 'BUZZ' out of the game.. every game requires a bit of work to get this 'BUZZ'.. but a buzz is essentially a mental reward for acheiving something.. we become bored if the reward no longer worth the work!
I would like to suggest that the rewards in this game, for some people, require too much work.
Alternativley people are seeking rewards that are possibly TOO hard to acheive with their current characters.. therfore getting bored quickly as there is no reward anymore.
It cant be helped if people are trying to run before they can walk getting frustrated, but, if like me you DONT want to get bored then I suggest doing what I do...
When I log on, I look at where I am, look at my missions available, see what friends are on-line, look at parts of the map not yet discoverd, skills I havnt got yet.. and SET YOURSELF A GOAL!!
setting yourself acheivable goals will give you far more in the way of rewards.. Even if it is to help a guild memeber get from A to B... I've acheived something, and because I am basically seting myself goals and acheiving them regularly the only thing that frustrates me at the end of the night is the fact that I have to goto bed
Once you have acheived a goal.. (even if its to sell your sword).. set another goal STRAIGHT AWAY... otherwise you WILL get bored, because you have nothing to do.
I hope this helps people who dont want to be bored... maybe someone else can suggest otherways of stopping boredom ? as opposed to venting frustration about being bored.
(sorry for the long post, I'm bored at work)

PvE was fun. However, the missions were very lineal and you could not really explore that much. You basically snake through a mission until you reach the last boss, not unlike Donkey Kond. PvP and GvG is as about as fun as a chess match. Still, GW is worth the $50.

Hmm, have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe some people are bored of the game because it does not fulfill their gaming needs, because it is simply not that good? If your imagination is structured in such a way that you consider something like unlocking all the skills or counting the blades of grass or watching paint dry as fun, that is your business.
Also, you assume too much about people's skills being not up to par. Don't measure everyone by your yardstick as some have a much longer one that you do. Yah, you can interpret that in any way you desire.

Guild will develop rivalries and a year from now no one will be complaining about the grind. This game has a bright future as long as they don’t bow down after the first month of complaining.
To answer the question, no I’m not bored, and I hope I never do get bored. |

I think the bored people, myself somewhat included, are hoping the expansion will make the game more interesting. GW is a good game but I did not expect the grind to kick in this early as a casual player. But, the dev's are hard at work and I am waiting to see what they come up with.

I got the game on release and have two characters - one I play strictly with a friend of mine, to stay at the same point as him, and another I play when he's not around. Both of us have zero interest in guilds or PvP, and we're both having a great time in the game just doing the PvE missions and exploring. One thing I noticed is that it's incredibly easy to miss missions and collectors if you don't thoroughly explore every zone. I ended up spending a good two days going through various old missions my solo character had missed.
Neither character is even close to finishing the game, even though my solo character is already level 20, and there's still tons of skills for both to pick up. So no, I'm not bored yet and I'm just doing PvE, period. (PvP isn't my bag.)
Anyway, thought I'd post that since it boggles my mind that anyone could complain that they played a game for a solid 100 hours but the game isn't good because "now I'm bored". I can think of MANY games that you get a lot less enjoyment out of for your $50. My two cents.

The only thing I'm bored about is that the game is very repetitive. Especially the team missions that need to be done over and over again just to find out how to beat the end sequence are very boring to me. Also I would like to devellope some new chr's but what keeps me from doing it are all the missions I have to do over again. I think it would be much more fun if it would be possible to level by random dungeons in maps rather than doing the same quests again and again.

I wouldn't be bored out of my mind if I had a guild to pvp with. Pickup groups are absolute jokes now that well organized guilds are beginning to dominate the hall of heroes. I really like the random 4v4 pvp, but there isn't anything to be gained, and it ends up being a disapointment.

Lets all count shall we.... I know that im somewhere around the 300 hour mark since european release, dunno about the rest of you.
I currenlty have a lvl 20, 19, 17 and iv had a bunch of random 'spare' characters too. None ascended yet, though iv checked out HoH etc. with pvp only, and underworld with PvE.
I reckon this is one of the best games this year, if not for a while. The pvp while iv not done anything i could say was 'groundbreaking' has been pretty cool. Its got lots of options, can be highly tactical, can be a straight out slugfest, its never felt unfair, its always felt good to kill someone, and its hasnt really been much of a bore.
