Both, and don't ask, rather... ask yourself what primary attribute you want... fast casting, or expertise... it's as simple as that, cause ive seen both, and both have their own weaknesses/strengths... there is no better.

Edit:: It's the same way with ALL characters, they all rule. and untill there's a crappy class, there will be no better.

Well, that depends. Would you rather be able to cast faster (Me/R) or have your skills use less energy (R/Me)? Which lines would you like to take the highest? (You can use runes to increas primary skills, but not secondary). Or maybe even which do you think looks better?

EDIT: Bah, I'm slow.

you gotta remember though, the ranger expertise does not apply to your mesmer skills

If I was you I would go with something other then ranger as your secondary... I have found that rangers require more dedication to be any good then most of the others. At least thats what I feel.

I have a W/R and Mo/R guess what spells I have on my bar, NO ranger spells. My plan was to have a pet for both. Turns out the nice pet blocking "feature" makes having a pet more of a hindrance than a help. I will be checking out some of the spirits later to see what benefit they might provide, but in general I would agree that Ranger is not too good of a secondary.

P.S on my warriors I do have 3 in marksmanship so I can use a decent bow, never know when you might want to shoot something.

Rangers don't require more dedication, IMHO. They require the player to not want to take the glory for being the hero, even though many times they ARE the hero of the battle. They don't necessarily kill things, but a well played ranger is the master of shutdown, annoyance, and enablement.

Any caster that's been hit by concussion shot knows just how annoying it is. Any warrior or ranger that's had their primary source of skill damage shut down with distracting shot knows just how distracting that is. Rangers that pepper every foe in the battle area with poison arrows curses at rangers.

In PvE, the most annoying mobs I face are a slew of level 20 rangers. They focus fire well and between penetrating shot, ignite arrows, and dual shot they do harsh amounts of damage. If I run into a large group of Avicara Fierce, for example, I usually modify my run and figure out a way around them. They are plain deadly.

Rangers are simply an extremely adaptable utility class. They don't do a ton of damage as rangers, but you definitely know when they're present.

Oh, and for the record, a Me/Ra is a lethal combo, as is a Ra/Me. If I were doing it, I'd probably opt for the Ra/Me path and go with a mix of expertise, marksmanship, and then whatever path you want to take in the mesmer line. The Ra/Me or Me/Ra path is really the shutdown king of the game.
