New GUI today

Opened up GW and a hefty 45mb update was downloaded, along with a new GUI.

Someone in the korean tournament took some screenshots:

http://www.odins.org/images/gw050.jpg
http://www.odins.org/images/gw047.jpg
http://www.odins.org/images/gw045.jpg

It looks good, but I wish they didn't have those blue buttons in the bottom left, they really dont fit with the rest of the GUI, the least they could do is recolor them the bronze/silver color.

Looks good. I wish the Korean and American and Europeans and everywhere else weren't so seperated. Or at least that they would send us frequent screenies to tie us over to the next beta. hehe.

anyone notice that weird focus the mesmer has? haven't seen on before.

Very nice, but did you also notice the large content updates(just extrapolating from the numbers on the download bar).

This just means that you -HAVE- to rush back to play next BWE, Zak!

Some people don't seem to like the new layouts.. but I really do like the new format. I was staring at the little boxes for a while, and I simply adore fluid shapes.

It's a Protective Icon. It's a focus that relies on protection prayers. I found one that gave +11 energy. It looks pretty cool especially when you get a good view from the side

That's a Protective Icon- one of the monk foci linked to protection prayers.

Hmm... Thought he wouldn't be that stupid... Look at him. He's a Mesmer/ Ranger using a monk's focus? What's he thinking?

I'm not really crazy about the new UI myself. It feels a little too slick and polished, as though I were playing Guild Wars IN SPAAAACE!. Is anyone old enough to get Muppets jokes anymore? Just me? Oh well.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it in and of itself, I just don't think it's a good match for Guild Wars thematically.

However... the new loading screens are awesome.

As one of my guildmates said, "It looks like Star Trek exploded on my [Guild Wars] screen."

Considering the game has localization for Swedish Chef, I dare say "The Muppets" ought to be considered the official TV show of Guild Wars. Bork bork bork!

hrm, yeah I dunno what to think of the new layout. I mean, its slick, but like Spooky said it does come off as a tad to futuristic to me. Thus, I think im prefereable to the old GUI. R.I.P. Old GUI

The new loading art is nice eye candy, but I wasn't bothered too much by the old art either, so I'm fine with whatever.

Agreed on the UI looking slicker/smoother, but again, I wasn't bothered by the old UI either, so as long as it still works the same, it's fine with me.

The Muppets Movie - "Jack not name. Jack job!!"

Lets all bust out singing "The Rainbow Connection" as well!!

Edit: Downloaded the new UI, and I feel refreshed at the change of pace. Too bad my computer still sucks so much as to not be able to show it at the highest possible quality, but I'll live.

001-027 work, but then nothing until 045-047 and 050. None of the other ones show the new UI (001-027 seem to be from the previous BWE).

Yeah, I'm with Spooky here, it seems to have too much of a techno vibe. I think it's really cool and all, but I think they might want to hold it for another space game if they plan to make one. Sure it gives more "wow shiny" factor, but in Guild Wars it should be more "epic adventure" you know?

Oh, and ditto on the loading screen.
And Spooky, Muppet jokes will never get old. As soon as I read IN SPAAAACE! I heard the narration. Muppets will live forever even if they're currently doing pizza commercials.

I like the new UI ... I thought the old one was good too. Overall, I think it's an improvement ... especially in the loading-screen department.

You know the whole Pigs in Space referance and Swedish Chef stuff? Check out the language options on Guild Wars right now. (It's okay if you can only play beta, it's still there.) It's a Swedish Chef Language option. Somebody out there loves us! I have some pics in the Off Topic and Absurd section.

Well, this is my first time posting but I have been browsing through these forums for quite a while now. To get back to the topic, is it just me or is the UI from the first couple of images the guy hosted (001 --> 010 or something think that) so much more fitting for the genre and better looking as well?

I also really really... really dislike the weapon switch bubble things on the lower left hand side of the UI. I bothers me to no end but thats probably just me .

I'm not really getting the Space Age vibe everyone else seems to see. It still looks fantasyish to me. I didn't mind the old stuff, but over all, I'm liking the slight jazzing up of the UI. I probably won't even notice it after I get used to it, though, so it really doesn't matter a whole lot.

One thing that I do miss is the sliding options panel. The window looks better, but I liked being able to open up the panel and fiddle with things while in a loading screen. Not really a big deal, I know, since I guess I won't be spending a lot of time on loading screens once the game's released, but I wouldn't mind having the panel back as an option, even if it's toggled off by default.

No, not at all. If, that is, you accept the little known and probably made up theory that by the second expansion Guild Wars is going to look like a RIFTS campaign. Time and space itself will become meaningless as paradox after paradox will twist our understanding and conception of the very groundworks of reality. Nothing can ever be taken for granted - Guild Wars will be neither fantasy nor Sci-Fi nor anything but a swirling mass of genres and tropes disgored and combined in an unholy combination.

That, and there'll be Cyborg Ninjas riding dinosaurs. They're the natural counter to the planned Robot profession...

I'm going to have a laser - no, a laser sword. With guns on it that shoot swords.

I liked the old GUI, it would be cool to be able to use either. The new loading screens look pretty cool though.

If you check out gw017.jpg, which [I think] represents the March BWE UI, you'll notice that the weapon switch bubbles have been with us for a while: that's not part of the new changes. In fact, shifting between gw050.jpg and gw017.jpg gives you a solid comparison of exactly what IS different, and it turns out to be only the windows themselves, along with minor tweaks to the mini-map.

Well, there's also the fact that the experience bar got moved to the right edge of the skills...I sure hope that's reversible.

Never thought about the weapons bubbles before. I wonder why they can't be not there unless you press f1-f4? No real need for them to be displayed while you are playing. Maybe make that an option? Oh well.

(The foregoing was worth, on the world market, exactly 2 cents! )

I dislike the change of position for the XP bar. It looked much better on top of the skills.
The window decorations I didn't really mind until I compared them to the old ones. The old ones looked much better.

I use the weapon bubbles all the time
I love the fact that if i want do i dont have to use my keyboard. Kick my feet up and click with my mouse with a nice tall glass of iced coffee in my hands

I think there probably will be options what to show and what not.

My main issue with the new UI is the horrible Guild Wars Swoosh curtain thing on top, its horrible design.

I'm sure it was just his solution for the thing. It's still too big, and that's as good a place as any to put it. I don't think that's where it's supposed to be by default. I saw another screen somewhere, where someone had put it right under the minimize/exit buttons in the top corner. I think, if they haven't fixed it by April's BWE, that's where I'm going to put it.

I don't like the new gui look. I'd actually like to see them make a couple of them and allow us to choose which gui we want to use.
