Funny, very same reason as me!
And you're not the only ones out there

I think one of the primary reasons why many people (including me) dislike capes to the point of choosing not to be in a guild rather than having to wear the guild cape, is that the capes look ugly and obnoxious. They look "tacked on" to the armor and hide the armor's beauty and intricate details.

The cape should enhance the magnificence of the armor, not take away from it. It should look as if it's an integral part of the rest of the character's apparel, not something that's clipped on. It should be a little more subtle than the glaring, obscene, obnoxious piece of glossy, reflective texture that it currently is.

I finally joined a great guild last night, and it was such a great experience except for one simple thing... the cape totally ruined my appearance. /sigh.

If it wasn't such a great guild, I'd have quit right away after seeing what the cape looked like on my character. Here's hoping that the toggleable cape option is accepted and implemented soon!

3. If each of you want an individual cape, then each of you should create your individual guild.
You obviously aren't married or have never worn a wedding ring.

1. There are times when it is not safe or just not practical to wear a wedding ring, i.e., doing dishes, martial arts, working with chemicals, sports, household cleaning, engine work, military training obstacle courses, etc. (yes, I have done all of those, and the ring comes off for each one)

2. A wedding ring is a symbol and a symbol only: removing it does not cancel a marriage, just like removing a cape would not renounce your membership in a guild!

3. A wedding ring is no where near as obstructive as a full cape, It doesn't cover up everything else you wear and you don't have to design your entrie wardrobe around it!

In case you can't tell, I am very much in favor of the toggle option, I just barely joined a guild and I was surprised to find out that there wasn't already a toggle button/check box/ command.

Why toggle?

1. The game requires that all your characters belong to the same guild, you don't want to have to make all your characters look the same with the same color scheme on their armor. Ok, maybe some of you do, but for the most part different characters have different looks. It's incredibly difficult to find a guild cape that goes with each character.

2. You should not have to base a decision to join a guild or which guild to join on "how cool the cape is", but rather on the quality of people in the guild, do you like playing with them?

As to the ideas of using something besides capes for guild identification, this sounds really cool and would make for endless possibilities, but is also complicated, and for now i'd settle for a cape toggle check box.

Anyone ever play City of Heroes? (which incidentally, is another ncsoft game). Instead of 'guilds' you have 'supergroups', but with a click of a button you can "enter supergroup mode" which instantly changes your costume to match your group colors and puts the group emblem on your chest. As soon as you're on your own, you can revert back to normal and wear your own, individualized costume. There's no reason why something similar wouldn't work here!

As to anyone who doesn't like the idea of toggling your cape, the answer is very simple: leave your cape on! No one would force you to take it off. Just bear in mind that there are many people in this game who are roleplayers, and for many of them, appearance is important because it is part of our character! There's no reason for you to force your preferences on us, we're not asking that the capes must come off outside of PvP, we just want to have the option, and I don't think anyone can make a rational argument against that.

Lastly how is this a flame fest? We all love/like the capes, most just want to put it away sometimes.

Report it if you wish, there is nothing wrong with this thread.

eh what? Did you read peoples arguments at all? Toggleable capes is just an option, and as such it can do absolutely no harm to anyone.

The wedding ring is a bad analogy. A cop is always a cop, that's true. But he only wears his uniform when he's being paid to be a cop. Likewise a soldier is only wearing his uniform when his job requires him to wear his uniform. He gets leave for the weekend, he's not wearing his uniform.

Our guild cape is our way to be identified as part of a unit. There are so many guild capes that nobody will recognize a guild by their cape. Do you know what the Sissy Boys cape looks like? I don't. When I play with my guild, even only with one other member, I would wear my cape because I like being part of something larger. But when I'm running about in town, or just playing solo, or playing with a PUG, I'd like to remove my cape so I (and others) can see my armor. It's not like you're hiding the fact that you're in a guild, you have a tag at the end of your name that is more comparable to a wedding band.

All of you people that want to toggle capes, must of never played a team sport, or been part of any sort of team.

Keep the capes and NO TOGGLE. haveing a cape should keep you accountable. You represent your guild. So, if you are a jerk then when ever I see someone with your same cape, I know hey that is jerk's guild over there. The same goes if you are a cool guild. Yes I know you would keep the TAG still, but so many guilds have the same tag.

We had a cape issue last week actually in our guild. We used to have a pinkish V on the back. Well several members did not like it. So, we put it up for a vote as a poll in our forums. The majority of the guild voted to change the V to a darker shade of red. So, we changed it.

Maybe you should light a candle instead of sitting cursing the darkness? Talk to your guild about the cape design. If you do not have a voice then it isnt that nice of a guild anyways.

As far as the cape ghosting thru armor weapons and what not, that is a simple fix. That I hope will come about. In the mean time if it annoys you so much like it did me, just buy new armor. lol

You can't make it so well designed that it fits to every profession. Actually, you can't make any cape that fits on a Monk with a bare chest (just my opinion, though).

And capes do everything but make you accountable, because there are so many variations of it, that I don't even waste the time looking at them. In 95% of the PUGs I am in, there are not even two ppl from the same guild. Actually, it's more likely that you see two capes that resemble each other, than finding two people from the same guild in PvE in a PUG. And if it's only about playing in groups of your own guild - well, guess you know others' cape very well.

Well if you're going to be fussy, then there's also an ' in it's when it is being used as an abbreviation of it is. See? Comments like that really are pointless.

As for the cape thing: I'm all for it! I generally like capes, but they do look bad when the GFX glitch, and the cape seems to somewhat..merge with the character. What I'm basically saying is /signed.

Definately signed! I want to see the back of my characters and besides that I don´t want my characters to die by suffocation just because they couldn´t take their cape off for sleeping!

I had just left a guild around 3 days ago, and for the life of me can't remember what it looks like.
