You obviously aren't married or have never worn a wedding ring.
1. There are times when it is not safe or just not practical to wear a wedding ring, i.e., doing dishes, martial arts, working with chemicals, sports, household cleaning, engine work, military training obstacle courses, etc. (yes, I have done all of those, and the ring comes off for each one)
2. A wedding ring is a symbol and a symbol only: removing it does not cancel a marriage, just like removing a cape would not renounce your membership in a guild!
3. A wedding ring is no where near as obstructive as a full cape, It doesn't cover up everything else you wear and you don't have to design your entrie wardrobe around it!
In case you can't tell, I am very much in favor of the toggle option, I just barely joined a guild and I was surprised to find out that there wasn't already a toggle button/check box/ command.
Why toggle?
1. The game requires that all your characters belong to the same guild, you don't want to have to make all your characters look the same with the same color scheme on their armor. Ok, maybe some of you do, but for the most part different characters have different looks. It's incredibly difficult to find a guild cape that goes with each character.
2. You should not have to base a decision to join a guild or which guild to join on "how cool the cape is", but rather on the quality of people in the guild, do you like playing with them?
As to the ideas of using something besides capes for guild identification, this sounds really cool and would make for endless possibilities, but is also complicated, and for now i'd settle for a cape toggle check box.
Anyone ever play City of Heroes? (which incidentally, is another ncsoft game). Instead of 'guilds' you have 'supergroups', but with a click of a button you can "enter supergroup mode" which instantly changes your costume to match your group colors and puts the group emblem on your chest. As soon as you're on your own, you can revert back to normal and wear your own, individualized costume. There's no reason why something similar wouldn't work here!
As to anyone who doesn't like the idea of toggling your cape, the answer is very simple: leave your cape on! No one would force you to take it off. Just bear in mind that there are many people in this game who are roleplayers, and for many of them, appearance is important because it is part of our character! There's no reason for you to force your preferences on us, we're not asking that the capes must come off outside of PvP, we just want to have the
option, and I don't think anyone can make a rational argument against that.
